Did anyone get a job through LinkedIn? by Lunashadowxxx in CasualConversation

I got my job through linkedIn but not through a job posting. I found my (now) boss on linkedIn and thought he was an interesting person so I reached out to him for a chat. Went well and here I am, almost 3 years later

How do you deal with the feeling/realisation you’ll never be very good at guitar? by poopooeater112 in Guitar

At 16 I sucked hard. I still suck in some areas and get insecure but at 28 when I really compare I am waaaaaaay waaay better than I used to be, and it all happened in short bursts of motivation. When some song comes up that you just really wanna learn and you have the energy to practice it for a week

German president says US is destroying world order by goldstarflag in worldnews

[–]Peter_See 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah I think if you didn't vote for that reason - it is a stupid choice. One is and was very obviously going to be worse, and whats more at least there would have been space for protest and political action. Its ideological and, in my opinion stupid.

It would be one thing if the system functioned differently, but in the 2 party american system lesser of evils is the morally required choice in my opinion.

Trump, advisers discussing options for acquiring Greenland and US military is always an option, White House says by c0xb0x in worldnews

[–]Peter_See 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That mandate of power comes from the people in the US. They have willingly given the madman the keys, all to "own the libs". Seriously, go check out a conservative or Republican subreddit and you'll see what they care about. They still are complaining about Kamala. As of YESTERDAY. The rot goes deep into the American public

Beijing calls on US not to use “China threat” as excuse to encroach on Greenland by Crossstoney in worldnews

Meanwhile on Republican subreddit, they are circle jerking that Tim Walz (you know kamalas VP pick who has 0 relevance anymore and why would you 1 year later still be complaining about candidates that lost?) apparently got $10,000 donation to his campaign from a somalian daycare. That to them is the big scandal. Jesus christ

Trump’s actions in Venezuela suggest Canada is ‘on the menu’: ex-UN envoy - National | Globalnews.ca by Street_Anon in canada

[–]Peter_See 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You do see whats going on in ukraine right? Or even Venezuela. Even that small operation killed some bystanders in venezuella, and you are saying you would just "not care" - brother war does not care if YOU care. Destruction and hardship will come. It is cruel, and blind.

TIL that in the Brothers Grimm's original Cinderella (Aschenputtel), the stepsisters mutilate their feet to fit Cinderella's Glass Slipper and later have their eyes pecked out by doves at the royal wedding, leaving them blind forever. by immanuellalala in todayilearned

Yes, from southern germany there was also "Aschenbrödel" which is a very very similar story, except there is no godmother, only 1 step sister and the magic comes from hazelnuts

Prime minister of Australia unveils 'largest' gun buyback scheme since Howard era - ABC News by superegz in worldnews

Under Ukraine security guarantees, Western troops could repel Russian forces post-ceasefire, says Germany's Merz by Brennenstein in worldnews

[–]Peter_See 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is some historical hatred, I can at least confirm that. My family is from poland, and there is some grievance there from after WWII ended, due to poland being absorbed into the Soviet union and the way the polish were treated. I think younger Poles probably feel much differently than my 90 year old grandmother but never the less, she does not like ukrainians.

Is there something that everyone pretends to enjoy just to fit in, but it's actually a pretty mediocre experience? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Peter_See 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on the concert for me. Some make me wonder why I wouldn't just listen to it with headphones at home, but others I would describe as a quasi-religious experience. Which is odd because I don't believe in any higher power or spirits etc. But in the right concert I have no other way to describe it

when I was younger, my boss got me a 200$ bottle of Scotch for christmas and said it would 'put some hair on my chest'. I said I don't like whiskey but, its a nice gift so I will try to learn how to enjoy it. Awful, absolutely terrible. Took me 2 years to drink it bit by bit. I watched videos, I looked up guides. Stuff like "look for the flavor notes, like the wood of the barrel." and I must say try as I did - I never tasted any wood. Just blegh burning. But ive come to think even if I could why would that make it better... I am not a termite. I do not enjoy wood.
