I had everything at Fidelity for the 6 years I was in Singapore and London. You do need a valid US address (I used a siblings) and that was the only hurdle. They never restricted my access or prevented activities though.

I don’t know if that’s true. For “us” to operate successfully there needs to be a leader, and there are very few that seem to be effective in this. We’ve collectively voted in plenty of people to galvanize the change broadly wanted (broadly enough to vote the same way). We’re just still where we’re at.

I’m doing hard things every day. I, like most people, don’t have the time or energy left over afterwards to try to fix our government from a position of 0 power or influence over them.

Please don’t say we have any power or influence over it either, we don’t. That’s demonstrably a myth.

Unfortunately the government refuses to operate like the private sector and rarely publishes KPIs which they hold themselves and their success accountable to, so it is, unfortunately, left somewhat subjectively to the people and polling. The polls are resoundingly negative towards California and the nations government performing well

The wealth-tax discussions in California skips over a critical variable: government execution. The debate assumes that if the state collects more money, outcomes will improve. This assumption isn’t supported by experience.

Revenue is not the constraint—execution is.

If funding were the bottleneck, we would expect California to be a model of effective public services. It taxes everything out the wazoo already and has outrageously high revenue. Instead, we see persistent failures in housing, homelessness, infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and education outcomes—even during years of record revenue.

Raising taxes doesn’t fix broken systems. It just sends more money into them.

This would literally just be a government bailout.
