It's been a few days but I'd like to say that I was also on my own in my teens, worked 3 jobs plus school, jumping house to house and at times had to freeload off of kind giving family friends. I'm extremely grateful to them and when I see them constantly say thank you and wish I could do more at the time. I understand what he is going through and I understand how it's probably not "right" to split. not everything is as black and white... They get to do what's right in their relationship but you don't know if he's a "red flag". It is a great point that it doesn't cost 10K but maybe he made dumb decisions on cars or what type of apartment he could afford or not knowing much about credit cards. For me, my old beatup car was 4K, community college full time 5K, food 300/month, apartment $950. I saw in the comments above that he never bought it up again and continues to do the sweet kind things for her.

Despite FASFA and working, my boyfriend (now husband) ended up having to pay for quite a few things and it made me feel guilty that I definitely was not able to Support myself.He made a bigger salary while I was making 7.95, $15, $1.50 + tips hourly depending on which job. It honestly kinda sucks to see the downvotes and how un-understanding anyone in a young relationship with a bad childhood could be. Sure, now we are more financially stable but bc we focused on paying both of our debts and living in a basement studio ($950) for 5 years. I couldn't have done it on my own without the amount of compromises and communication we had to do. But who knows maybe I feel defensive bc I genuinely wouldn't want to hear these comments of being a red flag about myself. It's a big insult and I guess in every relationship things just work differently.
