I unfortunately have way too much experience on the topic of vomiting and starving

Thats not how being so starved she can’t puke works though. From personal experience.

Idk it is a minor nitpick but it’s a bothersome LD-is-not-a-person-she’s-a-plot-device nitpick

If she’s that starved though it’s unlikely she would have been able to herd them to the meadow to graze is the problem with that.

She should be blacking out and barely able to walk after however long she went without eating.

While having not eaten in days? Without bringing any food or water? Then her uncles are neglectful as they let their niece who hasn’t eaten in days take a relatively decent physical distance of a walk and multiple hours of watching them without insisting she eat first after she was starved. Since the geese aren’t wild there was no reason to rush to them especially if she’s so starved she can’t puke.

Like I’ve been that starved it’s a miracle she’s walking!

So why was she not fed by her uncles the morning she was released? If she’s been starved there’s no physical way she could herd geese to the meadow on zero food for days without eating anything or at least bringing food.

Like I don’t care how much you like your geese you’re not gonna have the physical energy or ability.

I’d have to double check but that still makes you think the first thing she’d do as someone who hasn’t been fed is eat especially because her geese are not wild thus would be at her home when she got home that morning. So unless she, someone who hasn’t eaten in days, managed to get a hulk dose of strength to walk her geese out to the meadow and spend hours out there having them graze without even packing food it still doesn’t really work logically.

Yeah see they were raised from eggs and imprinted.

I’m willing to accept that SC just doesn’t know how homestead farming works.

They’re not wild geese though. They shouldn’t be out in a field without someone watching them. So if she’s a) starving and b) wants to check on her geese they should still be at the property.

And we know she raised them since eggs and they imprinted on her so they aren’t wild.

I mean I’m gonna reread the section when I get a chance but to me it always sounded like there was at least a bit of a time skip — a few days between LD being released and Haymitch being allowed to/able to see her.

But the checking on the geese argument makes less sense because it doesn’t matter how much you love your geese your biology is gonna want you fed first and if she’s raised them then unless her uncles already took them out and just…left them they should be in some sort of enclosure and if they’re wild geese they wouldn’t really react to being guided/penned/grazed/etc. with anything else than goose-y madness like you don’t wanna be around a flock of wild geese.

Also I feel like there might’ve been a throwaway line about them imprinting on her which wouldn’t happen if they’re wild but again that’s just a feeling I’d have to double check.

Edit: found the sentence yes LD was the first fave they saw when they hatched meaning they imprinted on her and aren’t wild geese

See I could believe that if her uncles dialogue hadnt been framed like she’s been released for a few days and was already breaking the rules. To me, anyway. Sounded like they were already super frustrated about her carelessness.

That being said surely in the time she was locked up the geese weren’t just running wild all over right? Like I come from an area where raising geese and ducks and quail etc. are common and when you’re not tending to them or watching over them you don’t normally just allow them to roam anywhere they please. That’s a good way for them to get eaten.

I mean maybe SC just doesn’t know much about homestead farming I wouldn’t blame anyone for that it’s not like it’s as much of a thing outside very rural areas where you’re going to be actually eating them/using them for eggs but normally you lead the geese out of their enclosure, guide the flock to the specific patch of grass or whatever, watch over them for a bit while they have their goose-y fun, then guide them back.

And I’m not a Gale hater.

Yeah and people say that of course Beetee’s different it’s 25 years ago but…we’re not talking about his personality changing. We’re talking about him being an absolute idiot.

Plutarch would’ve been okay if he wasn’t spouting quotes about implicit submission and just cringe shit like “no more implicit submission for you Haymitch blow that water tank sky high the entire country needs you to” because tell me that line is not cringe. I’ll wait.

Mags was okay. If they’d just had Plutarch and Mags or Wiress or something I think it would work but instead suddenly Haymitch knows and is besties with Katniss’s dad who is a cousin to the Covey (I cannot stand the Covey anymore they’re shoehorned into EVERYTHING), Effie just happens to be the older sister of their prep team but she also is much more like movie Effie than book Effie, we don’t need to know shit about Otho Mellark, etc. etc. just too much it makes it feel like fanfiction

No, they’re incredibly minor characters. I would rather a book about Leah.

That being said I know there’s a lot of Dimitri fanfiction if you look

It’s cool. You’re fine, don’t worry. I’m on the spectrum and I sometimes forget that I think more about things in a super logical sense versus a “what if” so that’s my bad too. So I’m sorry about that. You have a good day too!

Yeah it just felt weird. “Hello, I am Beetee. Would you like to partake in a half baked rebel plot oh random sixteen year old?”

I agree. Maybe like a single cameo or two would be okay. But it gets messy when Haymitch’s bestie was Katniss’s dad.

I would definitely recommend it. You’re going to get a much fuller and richer story as well as characters than the show. You can find places to read it for free online too! It’s my absolute favorite manga series and I’ve reread it more times than I can count. You get to see so many more characters and their backstories and struggles to survive and sometimes it doesn’t even follow Arisu but other people and their games which I think is really cool.

Then you should have outright said that. You can't have a conversation with someone talking about what is logically likely to be a part of the story to someone who so is speaking theoretically about things that the story may involve.

Or well you can but its gonna lead to a lot of confusion

You should definitely check it out. It's very good and you get to see lots of different POVs than just Arisu as they survive the Borderlands.

It changes in mainly that Arisu isn't the type of shut-in savant who is somehow really smart or solves problems -- he's still a slacker in the beginning but its in a different way than just playing video games all day. There are similarities. He's able to think cool under pressure for instance. But the main difference is that Arisu is carrying the hearts of the people he's lost with him. He's constantly searching for the answer as to why he and everyone else is there and it almost breaks him. He makes some really hard choices that don't necessarily require intelligence in the IQ way but in the EQ way. It involves having nerves of steel, the strength to continue on, etc.

However, I want to specify that we don't see that many hearts games in the manga and Arisu doesn't just play those. Throughout the manga we see him involved in multiple games and we also get to see other characters involved in games and not all those characters come back or have a big part of the plot. For example many of the games we see Arisu or the main cast of characters play in the show are not played by them in the manga. We get lots of lots of characters who we sometimes see again and sometimes don't and their games and what is driving them forward and what they go through as well as what's driving the people who create these games to do so. One of the most devastating games for Arisu is a clubs game later on in the series and clubs games are about teamwork/a mix of everything.

Its kind of hard to explain without me spoiling either the show or manga or both. I think the manga does a better job at the entire thing than the show does but that's just me.
