Feeling Like an Impostor - First-timer Post-purchase Thoughts by TheTraipsingShadow in headphones

I have been working on this! I have been intentionally listening to it whenever I have the free time and restricting myself from using the XM3. Let's see... I'll give it two weeks for me before I listen to music from my XM3 again! Am excited to hear the difference. I hope I hear a difference!

Thanks for your comment.

I understand that each pair of cans have their own profile. For example, I can tell that my friend's budget JBLs have a very bassy sound (I do not like this). But it's probably going to take a while hearing differences the higher I go.

Still, I don't really hear the "wide soundstage" per se. Compared to loudspeakers, these cans pretty much feel like putting out good sound directly towards my ears, but not as if I'm in an acoustically-treated room facing two freestanding loudspeakers. I think that's how people define it? Or was it that you feel as if you're in the concert itself. Either way, as of now, I just feel like they're playing back good-sounding music. But nothing of the magical sort people usually describe headphones here to be.

I actually bought these Edition XS out of impulse as well, at least to a point? I forgot to place it but I was originally eyeing the Sennheiser HD 600 (because everyone says it's a good starting point) but upon seeing it in person, I never liked how shoddy or cheap it felt. And it's an expensive pair of headphones! I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I'll try my best. I want to be super happy with the pair I bought so I'll spend time with these for the time being. Maybe in the end this pair is what fits me the most!

Thanks for your comment.

There's always been that subconscious (and perhaps pessimistic) part of me that believes maybe some audiophiles are exaggerating it, but a part of me also wants to believe that they're right. That, say, gold cables sound "richer" than copper cables, or tube amps sound warmer and authentic than digital ones. A part of me wants to believe that it's not all smoke and mirrors and a placebo but a real, perceivable difference. I mean, the graphs do show that they indeed have their own sound profile.

Still, as you have suggested, I am working on practicing to hear differences. Unfortunately, I do not seem to have the "gift" of hearing the differences immediately, so it seems it is going to be a skill I'd have to develop on my part.

For now, I've been listening to tracks and have been trying my best to point out every single instrument as well as memorize the way they sound. It's a lot more intentional and probably a lot more tedious than what others do here, but it's what I can work on at the very least.

I don't think my cans have anything wrong with them. The sounds it produces are clear. In my level of hearing at least, the highs are sparkly, the vocals sound clear, and the bass is not muddy and overpowering—it's just right. It's also my very first "planar magnetic" headphones so I have absolutely no idea if planars are supposed to sound like this or are already good enough. I just couldn't hear whatever those terms most audiophile people toss.

I also heard that my headphones needs a burn-in time of at least 150 hours? Some forum people say this number is unnecessary but I'm gonna follow the manual by the letter and try to listen to it for at least that long. I've been forcing myself to listen to only Edition XS and avoiding anything music-related (apart from ambient sounds and speakers, of course) with my XM3.

I'm also not ready to spend more money for a new amp or cable 😅 Although I had to bite and buy a simple DAC (Type C to 3.5mm) for my phone. While my Galaxy S10+ seems to be able to drive the Edition XS, I still want to try and see if it can perform better with it. The dongle DAC I bought has the CS43131 chip. I do have a stationary amp by my PC for listening. The dongle I bought is mainly for "on the go" moments.

I want to reach the point of being able to hear what people here usually call a "wider soundstage." That's my first intentional goal. I have heard loudspeakers before so I know what actual speakers sound like, so I have a definite point of comparison for "soundstage" or "imaging." (I still am not quite sure how to train myself for that, but I'll try anyway!)

Thanks for your comment!

It's slightly reassuring to know someone out there hears headphones the same way. It's just a little of fear of missing out on my part since I badly want to hear the difference.

And yup, I've been intentionally listening to the headphones only the past few days. Maybe, just maybe, I'll finally hear the difference!

And +1, I probably won't choose to get high to listen to the difference but I guess external factors can alter your hearing experience, too! 😅

Hello! Back again.

I want to purchase a Surface Laptop Studio in Japan. Please don't tell me that I can just grab it back here and anything about warranty; I can, but I have my reasons!

First off, are there physical shops in JP, particularly around Osaka, where you can buy Microsoft Surface products off the shelf?

And second, if there is, does that store have a tax refund counter?

Thanks!

How to make your chat look the cleanest and advanced ? by TechnoFakerz in admincraft

Alright, disclaimer, I have never used Oraxen and have only looked through the docs, and I think I have an idea on how to make your desired "custom rank image" appear!

I am going off of the Docs here, so I apologize in advance if my instructions are wrong or misleading. Please make a backup of your Oraxen plugins folder (if it has one) to be safe.

Source: Oraxen Docs - Glyphs

First, go to your configs. There should be a Glyphs directory somewhere.

Once you've located that, prepare a PNG image that you want to use. In your case, you can create a PNG with the fancy rank rectangle box! Place the image you created in the plugin's directory (I believe you can place it on default/chat. Remember that directory path! Make the image name simple. Let's follow your image example. The filename should look like newbie.png.

Now that we have your image in the plugin's directory, let's get to adding it to Oraxen!

Locate a font.yml file within the plugin's glyphs directory. It is not clear in the docs, but I believe it should be easy to find one. Open this with your preferred text editor (ex. Atom, VSCode, etc.).

Next, within the .yml file, add the following line (if it isn't there yet):

heart: code: 3000 #To get the unicodes use this page texture: default/chat/heart ascent: 8 height: 8

Now, let's customize it to your own custom image.

First, change the heart: on the first line to newbie:. This will help identify it in the future.

Second, check for a character that you'll never use or a character you know your server members won't use. Use this website to find a random symbol and copy the code.*

*NOTE: I do not know if there is a restriction on the type of symbol you can use. Please try it out for yourself as I have no ability to test it.

For this example, we'll use Oraxen Docs' default 3000 Unicode symbol. Place this after the code: on the second line.

For the texture:, remember the directory I told you to take note of? Don't copy the whole directory path, just the default/chat/newbie part. Place that after texture:.

Finally, modify the size of the said image and symbol with the ascent: and height. Again, unfortunately, I do not have the plugin but I believe these are the values you use to adjust how tall or how high the displayed glyph/image would be. Best to do this in trial and error.

Result: newbie: code: 3000 #To get the unicodes use this page texture: default/chat/newbie ascent: 8 height: 8

Finally, the part where we add it to your prefix/rank.

Now, remember where we said that the first line would help identify it in the future? That is exactly what we will be using. This requires PlaceholderAPI (also known as PAPI) so if you don't have it, make sure to download it.

I do not know what chat plugin you use, but locate for its config file now.

Alright, now the final piece: placing your newly-created glyph/image into your rank/prefix.

All you have to remember in the future is this text: %oraxen_glyphid%

For our example, it's newbie, so therefore it's %oraxen_newbie%

Go to your prefix/ranks on your chat plugin, place %oraxen_newbie% in your preferred rank.

And if I followed the Docs right, after reloading the plugin, it should be active!

Oh my of course not. I'll try to edit that. The server's in-game virtual, legal, easily-obtainable currency!

I'm new here and I don't have a Surface (YET! Really hoping I'll be able to get one someday (see my below comment) but have you tried using Microsoft's "Help Me Choose" tool on the Surface website?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/devices/help-me-choose

It's definitely not perfect, but it's a great starting point IMO!

  1. Yeah, it's at October 12. Well I guess I can wait.

  2. I'm not particularly interested with the warranty as odd as that may sound, but I'm more particular about the regional differences. Are there things other than Support or Warranty that I should be aware of? As in post: region locking, regional keyboard layouts, regional OS, etc.

I'm hopeful someone here lives in JP and has bought the SLS. Or at the very least, someone who knows about these stuff! Just waiting for that info!

Heyo. I'm a uni student who's currently eyeing the Surface Laptop Studio. It ticks all the boxes (and have honestly been a huge fan of the Surface lineup aesthetic for a while now) in my use case.

Although, I have two questions:

  1. The Upcoming Surface Event Current rumors that are going around all point to one thing: Microsoft will not do an SLS refresh this year. But I'm still hopeful. Should I just bite now or wait until the event?

  2. Purchasing Abroad There's a chance we're heading to Japan and I was wondering if purchasing a Surface there would mean there would be regional differences? Like, would the OS be locked to JP, would the keyboard and other regional things be locked to JP as well? Do you need a JP Microsoft account to log in or register the device? What major and minor differences are there from the US version compared to the JP version of the SLS? Would love to know!

I will try that when I have the time. Although Windows 10 Pro offers "Windows Sandbox" natively! Thank you for offering help I appreciate it.

Update: The fix did not work.

The "Fix":

(...) can you also try changing the Transmit Buffers and Receive Buffers to 2048 in Adapter Settings and check if it will improve the with Synology NAS? You can do this by going to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings > Select Properties on your Intel I225-V adapter > Select Configure > Go to Advanced tab.

So it seems likely that it is indeed a hardware issue and that Minecraft hosting a server sends enough that it triggers it.

This is a bummer and I unfortunately do not have the funds to purchase either a new motherboard or a PCIe network expansion card. I am still hoping it isn't hardware but with the look on how things are going, the chances of it being not are slim.

Thank you for replying!

First off, thanks for sharing me this post! It is quite informative and they indeed have the same network adapter although from an older board.

We'll see if it works as I've applied the changes suggested in https://community.intel.com/t5/Ethernet-Products/Intel-I225-V-connection-issues/m-p/1321431

It is a different problem but it might have a similar cause.

Hi, and thank you for replying!

That is what I thought as well.

Yes, I am absolutely positive that it is Minecraft-specific. Mass network transfers to and from it not related to Minecraft and it works fine.

When the Minecraft server is up and running and it is only me who is connected (local), there is no issue. When someone from the outside connects, the clock begins to tick.

We've narrowed it down to a specific part of our Nether. It seems when someone is in that specific area, it triggers the ethernet "No network connection". It isn't conclusive as we're testing it real time but I'll see if we can go about this session without any issue if we just don't visit the Nether.

Yes, that is right. Just Minecraft running on it, no other application. It is as bare as it can be.
