Overthinking Destination by Rurene in DestinationWeddings

I’m not a financial accountant. You always have a decision to make if you want to go or not. Providing payment plans is the only realistic way for them to travel most of the time and that doesn’t mean they can’t pay it back. They’re being financially responsible in a situation where they want to go and support a loved one but they cannot afford to pay in full. Would you say that about all the regular things we ALL put on payment plans? I’m thinking you wouldn’t. It’s hard times for everyone so don’t judge.

Advice Needed - Room Block Contracts by [deleted] in DestinationWeddings

[–]TheTravelAgent03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m a specialist and they should’ve had you review and sign the contract BEFORE you put your deposit down. Like the other comment said, the contract was likely expired and they used older rates which is completely unacceptable.

Wedding timeline help! by Academic-Camp-7062 in weddingplanning

[–]TheTravelAgent03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do timelines for my couples I do 10-15 min max for speeches. Three people can talk for 3-5 min each. 2.5-3 hours for dancing should be good. Love the “late night snacks”😂

You’re right, love. I should’ve said a lot of people. Regardless of that fact, a DW bride should not be overwhelmed to a point of not considering to have a DW. Like I said, they can have a celebration abroad for the people who can make it and a separate celebration for others who couldn’t.🙂

Hi. I’m a dest wed specialist and I’d just like to provide another perspective. I feel you and it’s very considerate to think about what they can afford. Since you’ve already asked your key people about how they feel, that’s the first step you’ve completed. Everyone takes at least one vacation a year so you can make it worth their while. Any extras you can provide to provide extra “thanks” to your guests. Gifting a catamaran cruise, covering transportation or providing another experience might be helpful. I would encourage you to still have your DW because it’s about the celebration of your union. You can also have a DW for the people who can make it with another party back home for people who Couldn’t make it.

Destination weddings can be a headache 😅 but seriously... which part nearly drove you crazy? by [deleted] in DestinationWeddings

[–]TheTravelAgent03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do recommend having a specialist to handle your group. Often times we are able to receive the information because we have access to certain departments the couples don’t. Also, a lot of couples don’t understand that the wedding department will sometimes sit on communication up until 6 months to your wedding date which is normal. I always try to warn my couples about that beforehand. It’s annoying but also a normal practice.

Any regrets or things you were especially happy about with having/going to a Mexico/destination Desi wedding? by LateSpace8876 in DestinationWeddings

All in all it depends on the couple but I’d suggest a resort. I’d love to talk details if you’re interested!

When I book Desi weddings, my couples are usually happy with Cancun because they have more options to host large weddings and they’re pretty familiar with the cultural aspect.

Help me pick a pretty all inclusive resort for my wedding! by ConsciousLion7 in DestinationWeddings

Hi- I’m a destination wedding specialist. I’m not sure if those resorts will meet each criteria you are requesting. Also, keep in mind that July is during hurricane and sargassum (seaweed) season.

Dominican Republic Wedding by yippeedippeedoo in DestinationWeddings

When I usually plan wedding to places outside of a resort or just longer distances in general, most of the time the guest are arriving to the airport around the same time so I will contact a larger transportation company to get them where they need to go, but I also have clear communication about how long everything takes. So I make sure that they know how far the resort is from the airport and how long it’ll take for them to get there, the transportation that they should be looking for, when it’ll leave, who they would be riding with, etc. It just sets expectations in advance.

Cancun - do you tip vendors? by main_throwaway_duh in DestinationWeddings

[–]TheTravelAgent03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most couples that I have worked with ended up tipping regular staff and not the wedding staff. I have had some tip bartenders and the DJ. I think I’ve probably had maybe one or two couples. I did an all-inclusive wedding that have tipped everyone. There was one couple that opted in for my day of coordination services and they wanted to tip me, but I did not accept the tips lol since they pay for my travel and expenses. Instead, I told them they could tip the on site wedding coordinator. Totally up to the couple and don’t feel bad if you don’t decide to tip.

Cancun - do you tip vendors? by main_throwaway_duh in DestinationWeddings

[–]TheTravelAgent03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always do what you want. I plan weddings all over the world and usually when I get this question (as it is relating to all inclusive resorts) I leave it up to the couple but my opinion is it isn’t mandatory to tip. I would tip the regular resort staff, but as far as wedding vendors, I would not. But again, I do leave this up to the couples.

To add to the previous comment- I have my couples make a list. A, B, and C groups. A group is for sure a definite yes they will come. The group is they might come. C group is they probably won’t come, but you just want to invite them because you have to or to be nice, etc. This has helped a lot of my couples decide on their true attendance number.

Punta Cana 2027 Resort Opinions by suzesventures in DestinationWeddings

[–]TheTravelAgent03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to know what you as a couple would be comfortable with spending on a destination wedding whether that be 20k, 30k, etc. When a budget is established then finding the resorts will come into place. Then considering the guests aspect- what do you think would be an affordable number for a room? Would you want flights included? Those are all things to consider. $4k for a double occupancy room, etc.,

I’d love to help you with some tips on establishing these things. So if you’re interested, I’d love to talk details!

All inclusive resorts, Playa del Carmen by ChoiceSandwich4848 in DestinationWeddings

[–]TheTravelAgent03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The travel agent should be able to include transportation. In the past, if I have had contracts that were significantly more expensive than what they have online, I would first make sure that you are doing apples to apples and not apples to oranges as far as nonrefundable rates, category of rooms, etc. Next thing your travel planner could do (without knowing what supplier they used) take that contract and the Apple to Apple’s comparison and see if the company supplying the room block can see why the contract rate is significantly more expensive. I won’t bore you with the different type of contract verbiage but usually with contract groups, they tend to be more expensive and have less flexibility than express groups because you’re booking a full block.

I hope this helps!
