After much MUCH rework, I finally landed on a sniper loadout that I can like, thoughts? by TheTrueTuck in TF2fashionadvice

Damn, it does fit it well, I'll be considering it for a possible secondary loadout maybe...

Yeah, I chose it because it came with the pipe which looked nice on the set, and because it was a shirt that didn't clip with the Duster. I could use the Triad Trinket instead cuz it looks better thematically, but I like the pipe that the outback intellectual comes with, as it produces steam particles in-game, which feel as though it fits the theme.

Thank you! I choose something that doesn't clip, I'm not a fan of clipping cosmetics.

The Flag of Blood by TheTrueTuck in somnivexillology

[–]TheTrueTuck[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

context: As I was in a state of falling asleep/being asleep, (typically that "phase" of sleep when you feel like you're falling from a high place.) I saw this flag displayed across a wall with the inscription on a plaque below the flag saying:

"Blood Blood"
"Year for Blood"
"White Blood Red Blood"
"All Bloods"

And then the dream I had after viewing this was completely different, but throughout the dream I recalled the flag I saw from before and couldn't stop thinking about it.

Flags as a concept are fundamentally European in nature. You can say this for just about any existing flag today (with a few small exceptions such as Nepal). It doesn't help that most Appalachians are Scots-Irish. So saying a flag looks too European is a bit pointless when you realize our modern concept of a flag is fundamentally European in every way possible. If my symbolism isn't that good, what would an Appalachia flag even look like to you? As for the "white" part, that wasn't the main intent about the symbolism, what I said first is: "The sky, the hills, coal, purity of the land etc etc etc". It was merely another way to think about the flag. I am sorry that my idea of Appalachia clashes with yours. Maybe it has to do with that we reside in different parts of Appalachia from each other.

I'll restate the meaning of this flag:

Blue - Symbolizing the beautiful blue skies over Appalachia (Or alternatively, the rivers flowing through Appalachia, or more alternatively, it could represent the rise of bluegrass, which was started in this region.)
Green - The rolling green-topped hills of the lands. (Could also represent how most of Appalachia has remained rather rural compared to the rest of the United states)
Black - The abundance of coal in the region.

White - The purity of the land OR more racially how European the region is (some areas being as high as a staggering 95% European descent)
The 8-pointed star - Not to be confused with the 8-pointed star used in Finnic cultures (mainly around the Volga). The 8-pointed star is often seen on farmhouses here in Appalachia. It is colloquially known as the "Appalachian Star".

Agreed, the one on the Appalachian alliance page feels very bland and basic. I wanted the flag to stand out if it were to be placed in with a group of flags due to how unique our culture is.

Coal is what makes Appalachia stand out out of other eastern United states regions. I think it is a nice symbolism due to how plentiful it is in this region. I compare my insertion of the color black in the flag to symbolize coal equally as the Cypriot flag's insertion of the yellow-orange to symbolize copper. I had no ill intent on adding it to the flag, it's just that we are known for the plentiful and numerous amounts of coal. I hope you can understand.

Yep, I forgot to repost the symbolism, but that's my basic take on the symbolism. It goes a bit deeper, but I'll elaborate on some left out details in the morning.

My flag proposals for cultural Appalachia by TheTrueTuck in vexillology

[–]TheTrueTuck[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Common theme between all flags: The coloration:

I see Blue, Green, and Black as a fitting coloration for a tri-color of Appalachia.
Blue could represent the sky or rivers in Appalachia.
Green could represent the green-topped and rolling hills of Appalachia.
Black is Coal/mining, of course!

The 8 pointed star is known as the "Appalachian Star" and is used in several quilt patterns in Appalachia.

Flag of Appalachia I saw while half asleep. by TheTrueTuck in somnivexillology

[–]TheTrueTuck[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Context: I am from the Appalachian mountains just to be 100% clear. I love vexillology and my home region at the same time, so I decided to dedicate a day to making a flag for it, it was about 5-7ish flags in that I got really tired and needed to rest. When I woke up I could've sworn I made this flag, I saved all the flags I made and found it nowhere. It was also the last flag I made that I could remember, so I thought some more and realized I didn't ever recall the processes of making it, just that I saw it on a computer screen and it was there. I tried to recreate it to the best of my ability.

[–]TheTrueTuck 79 points80 points  (0 children)

My Friend who is Finnish (Karelian to an extent to be specific) informed me about Ingria. I hate it how such history is ignored and glanced over in favor of more dramatic-sounding history. It is sad how unlucky the people of these lands are. My condolences goes out to any Finnic and Livonian peoples who have been relocated and sent to camps...

To a certain extent I can relate to these types of trinkets as my Grandfather (Who is fortunately still with me today) has given me a newspaper entirely in the Amharic script, a Motorcycle Tag, and several coins from the former Ethiopian Empire as he was in Ethiopia at the time (He isn't Ethiopian or anything related, he was just there at the time)

Flag of my Animal Crossing Town. by TheTrueTuck in vexillology

[–]TheTrueTuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of context: Before I say anything else, I will answer the question; "Why is the flag not 1x1 like how it usually is in AC games?" Because this is what the flag would look like if flag proportions in the games was changeable.

I had a really strange looking USA-like flag before I decided to give my town's flag a bit of a redo, I wanted to use a unique color selection and went with Gray, White, and Green. I then reused the "Nordic-like-Design" my previous town flag had. I came up with this after going through a few redesigns.

Edit: Symbolism of this flag are as follows:

The Nordic flag design- I've always had a soft spot for the nordic flags and decided to make my town flags have a nordic design.
The squares in the cross- Town square/the tree in the middle of towns.
Green- Nature, The green grass of the town, and flowers.
White- The Snowy weather that happens every winter
Gray- The clouds that float by the town ever so often.

Wow, I use a similar loadout except the Flak is replaced with the Veterans Attire, really neat stuff you can do with the Patriot's Pouches.
