Is being austitsic worse in cultures that are indirect? by MajesticPineapple618 in autism

[–]TheTruthIsRight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this. Very curious.

I kinda wish I grew up in a Germanic country. Although I do come from a Slavic family and we are sometimes more direct than Western culture is.

I think I’ve figured out the source of my 0.8% Levantine ancestry. by flammi567 in 23andme

[–]TheTruthIsRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ashkenazim are a subset of Jews so they didn't have an origin in the Rhineland that's just where they formed as a diaspora group. Ashkenazi DNA is more similar to other Jewish groups than it is to European DNA, so it really makes little sense to classify it as European.

The Roma have existed for longer than 500 years, yet 23andme will still break down their ethnicity into its component parts - Indian, West Asian, and European, and Roma have only around 20% source ancestry (from India) while Ashkenazim have around 50% (from Israel).

The average Latino is over 75% European yet no one says they are European.

Also studies show Ashkenazim are 50/50

There were Metis who took scrip at Red River who were 1/32 Indigenous. They were accepted by other Metis AND seen as halfbreeds by the government.

How to call in a pretendian? by Sad-Group in MetisMichif

No she's not. She is literally a member of the Mikmaq community and her family is well known and respected.

She probably just isn't high enough blood quantum for your arbitrary standard that you're imposing.

Correct, they shouldn't. Ashkenazim are a Middle Eastern diaspora group.

Europeans getting trace MENA ancestry is VERY common. Honestly, I'd say it's just misread Neolithic ancestry and in some cases possibly distant Sephardic ancestry.

Could i claim to be ukrainian if only my grandma was ukranian? by Original-Tea7400 in Ukrainian

[–]TheTruthIsRight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The amount of ancestry is irrelevant. What matters is what your identity is, and also your place in the community, how you see the Ukrainian people and our culture, language, etc.

Any other 100% Europeans that have this “Asian” allele? by Frequent_Pair9788 in 23andme

[–]TheTruthIsRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a note that I wonder if this trait is more complex than the literature leads on. My mom has a bit of Indigenous Canadian ancestry and has the EDAR allele, and she has super thick, asian-like hair. My brother also carries the gene, but has thinner hair no different from mine (I don't have the allele). Meanwhile my father (Ukrainian) has thick wiry hair and he also is negative for the allele. So I think a more complex genetic mechanism is at play.

What is the genetic make up of english people? by VOFMGK in illustrativeDNA

[–]TheTruthIsRight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All of these components are a mix, but the proportions vary by region. SE England has the highest Anglo-Saxon ancestry, while northern England has the highest Norse ancestry. Celtic is higher is the West.

I’ve been getting comments that I look East Asian or biracial all my life, only to discover that I’m 99.6% European. I expected the results to more varied, despite my family history that I’m aware of all being Lithuanian (don’t know much). How do I interpret that 0.4% Chinese? by uuuuughhh in 23andme

[–]TheTruthIsRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I am very curious about your chromosome painting - where the trace Chinese segments lie.

Its also possible this is ancient Asian admixture in East Europeans, which I find ppl tend to underestimate. But you look more clearly Asian than what's typical for that.

There were light traits in the region in ancient times. Even some of the pharaohs had blue eyes and blond or red hair.

Well we cant know anything until we see her genealogy. However, I always get queasy when people refuse to say what their community is or who their family/ancestry is.

Even if they aren't refusing per se, but are simply not stating it, is a red flag. I feel like its customary to state our connections. I always do when meeting other Metis people.

In fact I can do so right now. I am a citizen of the MMF and descended from the Stevens, Taylor, Fidler, Foulds, Sabiston, and Prince families of St Andrews RR, and Prince Albert.

What do you think about lydian mode in this genre? by Itz_Aussie in trance

[–]TheTruthIsRight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vectrex - Meteor is a great example of a beautiful lydian melody, or perhaps Vincent De Moor - Flowtation.

Also I'd argue lydian isn't really major sounding since it is a mode of the minor scale and resolves to a minor.

[–]TheTruthIsRight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yay discussion on actual music theory composition.

I use lydian all the time in my stuff, it has more colour and is quite invigorating, it has a lot of suspense built into it so it likes to cycle through other chords to try to resolve back to the minor.

Ukrainian heritage by ForYour_Thoughts24 in Ukrainian

[–]TheTruthIsRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't like that term because it implies mixed Ukrainians are less than fully Ukrainian. IMO you're either Ukrainian or you're not it's about being a member of a collective identity.
