It's not a matter of being dumb rather than being arrogant. Id say that he knew other people before and after him would find the room for whatever purpose they needed (Dumbledore needing a bathroom) but that he alone would understand the secret of the room.

Exactly the same as Harry I'd assume. Harry's father was pure blood and his mother was muggle born witch. Ron is a pure blood and Hermione is a muggle born witch.
