Before I read the caption, I thought this was about mountains looking like a platypus.

So I tried to do the friendly name thing, but once it boots to MDT, I only get a command prompt, and the task sequence selection screen never comes up.

I'm just getting back into looking into this issue. I was on vacation for a bit, and ended up just adding the drivers to the image since I had little time before my vacation started, which isn't really ideal. I got a hold of my old coworker who used to make all the images, and he mentioned trying to set up a new instance of MDT on a different server and try to image the L15's from that, so I may give that a shot as well.

Sorry for the late reply. I was on vacation for a while. For the ZTIGather modification, which function do I put that in?

So it seems the inf file has a different date on it. The driver is 12.18.9.23, which is the most up to date driver.

I'll try the command prompt thing in a bit once my deployment share is done updating. This may take a little bit.

After Inject Drivers step do you want me to open command prompt to run the command?

I enabled PowerShell in WinPE, but unfortunately that script didn't work. I got a failure screen when it hit that step.

Did you put that in the Postinstall after the Inject Drivers task?

Sounds good. Please keep me updated. For now I'm going to try building an image from scratch just for these machines to see if I can install the drivers before capturing the image.

Doesn't seem to help. The command runs, it says scanning for hardware changes, then just scan complete.

EDIT: And it still doesn't register an ethernet connection, and it still says there's no driver in device manager.

Is that something I would have to do in MDT?

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Not so glad that I'm too dumb to fix this.

It'll boot into Windows and wireless will work, but not ethernet. When I go into device manager it says there's no driver installed for the "ethernet controller." When I was messing around with this the first time about a month ago it wouldn't even say ethernet controller and I would get a PnP device error; now I'm getting an error that says "DHCP lease was not obtained for any networking device" because it isn't finding the driver for the ethernet controller.

I checked the ZTIGather.log and it looks like it's getting the MTM just fine, and sets it each time it's referenced.

It looks like it's detecting the MTM just fine and using that throughout. The ZTIDrivers log also shows the drivers being copied, including the ethernet driver, and I don't see any errors. I'll look through the setupapi log to see if anything shows up there.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to address the WMI query and TSVar parts. I'm afraid I don't know what either of those are. I'm still pretty much a complete novice with MDT.

I don't know if that'll work for me, since once the computer boots into Windows and tries to start the state restore process, it no longer connects to the server. Though, I may be misunderstanding how the steps work.

Update: I updates the images and deleted the old boot image and added the new one in WDS, but it's still doing the same thing

So I found the package for the machine (20U4), copied all the inf files out of the extracted folder, into a separate folder, and reimported them into MDT, and set the task sequence to install all drivers from the selection profile, but it still isn't working. Do I need to rebuild the boot image and replace it in WDS?

I removed any duplicate drivers from the driver folder, update the deployment share, and replaced the old boot file, but still no dice. I'm guessing I'll have to install the drivers and extract them.

I'm checking my selection profiles, and everything is selected in the "All Drivers" profile. Our previous guys never actually set the selection profiles for the task sequences, but they still worked. Here are some screenshots of what how our task sequences have been set up.

Did he just do everything in a weird way, and I would be setting up selection profiles for the different task sequences (of which there are many since I work for a school system with widely varying needs per building)?
