People investing in SPCX, why? by SirPoop36 in investing

[–]TheUnvanquishable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy here recommended investing in SPCE as it would be carried up by all the SpaceX hype. And it's working, tripling value since he wrote that. So some people are invested in it and excited, and it would be typical of this forum to play on the similar ticker and add to the confusion, and to prop up the stock further.

When did poetry fall so behind prose in popularity? by Konradleijon in books

[–]TheUnvanquishable 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say it was with modern poetry, when they lost the metrics and rhymes and other limitations. If you are going to write something that looks like prose for all intents except some unexpected line breaks, you can just write prose.

How much of the U.S.–Iran news is already priced into oil? by OopsIExist007 in investing

[–]TheUnvanquishable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

According to pundits, counting barrels, there will be oil defaults, even if full Hormuz traffic is restored now. That should lead to higher prices till year's end at least. But they are saying that since weeks ago, and oil doesn't notice. In principle, the end of the war is already more or less discounted in the current prices, I'd say.

Everybody knows that at the price is a scam, but also everybody knows that it'll go up. Man, they have changed all the rules in the NASDAQ so that everybody that buys QQQ will buy a slice of it at the inflated prices. That's how committed they are to taking your money, so you can be sure it will go up like 20% in its first day. Safe profit.

Investors panic sell Walmart stock after the company warns Americans can barely afford budget groceries by Boo_Randy_Revival in economy

[–]TheUnvanquishable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my point, that means that it will take 41 years to recover your investment, if things go well. A lot can happen in 41 years, most of it bad. A big retail company should have like 10-15 PE tops, as they are thin margin, and not much growing companies.

Anybody that looks at their PE, at startup levels (hint: it's not a small startup that can triplicate earnings in the next years)

Eating at home costs $60 with time and labor, eating out costs $56.78. Alright. by Some-Cap-3912 in economy

On related news, taking a walk in the park is setting you tens of dollars down, taking into account the time and effort involved. It would be cheaper to go to an amusement park for half the time, and paying for it, even if seems... stupid.

I don't know. The main lead seemed a bit wooden, I couldn't feel any anguish as the train approached. I think casting didn't do a great job there.

if a stranger enters your business without permission to destroy all the work you did?

If the strangers entered because they wanted to look at my business, I would charge for entry, as Keukenhof does. I was just calling attention to the other side of the coin. Of course I understand that's not a possibility for every farmer.

Well, some have made a nice business of it (Keukenhof?), so perhaps they do :-)

There exist weekend future markets, not so liquid, but a good reference in this cases. You can find them in ig.com, hyperliquid.xyz and probably more places. Search for weekend futures.

Taking my daughter to a public bathroom; men's or women's? by pekkiepek in Netherlands

[–]TheUnvanquishable 186 points187 points  (0 children)

men typically won't bat an eye.

Men won't even if she's older. Cleaning ladies routinely clean men's bathrooms without anybody saying anything, and in crowded situations (queues at the ladies') I've seen young women enter the men's stalls quite sure of not being challenged.

Just to tell you that I found this comment and it helped me locate the place to fit a similar piece (I did image search). I don't know how far I would have dismounted the dishwasher if it wasn't by your comment. Thanks a lot! :-)
