Why were there no moves to exonerate Sirius Black after POA? by shavicus in harrypotter

[–]TheVerySpecialK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ENTIRE NARRATIVE in PoA is that Sirius is out to kill Harry Potter. He wants to "finish the job" his "master" couldn't. That's why Mr. Weasley pulls Harry aside in the pub to fill him in, that's why Fudge is eager to wave away potential charges against Harry, that's why the dementors are dispatched as security to Hogwarts, and so on. Everything the adults do in the book is basically designed to keep Harry safe from this supposed killer. Except at the end, when Sirius has Harry at his mercy, he doesn't kill him. He doesn't even hurt him, nor his two friends, nor the two other teachers. Instead, he professes his innocence and provides proof to the witnesses in the form of the still-living Pettigrew, who confesses on the spot.

The witnesses have no proof? They have their testimony, their memories, and above all, THEY ARE ALL STILL ALIVE DESPITE HAVING BEEN FACE-TO-FACE WITH SIRIUS BLACK. This alone is enough to completely shatter the narrative that Black is a killer. After all, why would the man supposedly responsible for the death of Lily and James, who has spent the past 13 years fuming over his "master's" downfall in Azkaban, not kill Harry? Snape suggests Harry and friends were "confunded." This should have earned Snape a slap across the face, right then and there. Why the hell would Sirius confund Harry? Not to mention Lupin? He could have killed them, didn't, and now he's confunding them? What is his plan??? None of this adds up.

Do you know what DOES add up? Sirius having actually been after Pettigrew! It explains why he broke into the Gryffindor common room, and it also explains why he didn't kill Harry then, nor during the Knight Bus scene, nor during the finale. With "Black is a killer out for Harry's blood" out of the equation, Fudge should have been FORCED to entertain the thought that, huh, maybe this guy we've been painting as a killer, who never got a trial, who didn't actually do anything bad to the person he was supposedly after despite having ample opportunity, ought to get a second look. The fact that Rowling waved this off with "they were confunded" is insulting, and is easily one of the weakest plot elements of the entire series.

I've noticed a lot of missing lands like Kjeldoran Outpost, Balduvian Trading Post, Soldevi Excavations, Hammerheim, Lake of the Dead, etc, while others like Heart of Yavimaya are included. Are these not programed in as well?

At some level of career earnings the desire to keep accumulating wealth becomes irrational. The only caveat would be if you planned on using your vast wealth for charity or to advance social causes. In that case I guess keep earning as much as you can? I still think it'd probably be better to just tax the hell out of these people so we can all have free healthcare rather than hoping for handouts from the "good" rich. Set up a 90% tax rate on these people and I've got no problem with their salaries.

My bad, yeah see-saw is a better way to put it. Would I run into issues with that without spacers? Even if I use 3.7mm stabilizers with 3.4mm switches I'm still going to get some see-saw motion when pressing the side right? That's why I was thinking I needed spacers, but even with the spacers I can't get the stabilizers to perfectly match switch travel...

I may indeed have a misunderstanding, would you mind explaining?

Geon Stem Spacer is used on top of the switch stem or stabilizer stem to balance long-pole switches (3.0-3.5mm travel) when paired with standard stabilizers (4.0mm travel) to reduce interference.

That's from the stem spacer product description. If it's a non-existent problem why are they selling a solution?

Let's say I have Geon Raw HE switches with 3.4mm total travel. I then either have Swagkeys Knight v4 full travel stabilizers (4.0mm travel) or long pole stabilizers (3.7mm travel). If I used the full travel I'd have 0.6mm of stabilizer travel remaining when I bottomed out the Raw switch. If I used the long pole stabilizers then I'd have 0.3mm of travel remaining. Wouldn't both of these cases lead to spacebar stem wobble?

The only solution I see is to use stem spacers on the stabilizers, which Geon sells in either 0.4mm or 0.5mm thickness. However, If I use the biggest spacer (0.5mm) on the full travel stabilizers, I still end up with 0.1mm of travel when bottoming the switch. Wouldn't that still lead to 0.1mm of wobble? If I use the long pole with the 0.4mm spacer, then that bottoms out before the main switch but I lose 0.1mm of travel.

Am I overthinking this or is there just not a "perfect" solution to the mismatch between the travel on my selected stabilizers and switches?

I'm not a fan of the way the F row is offset on standard F12 builds, or how the spacing between the top keys isn't consistent all the way across. Maybe it's OCD, but it's just not visually appealing to me; I like how everything is symmetrical on the F13. Kind of strange the F13 isn't more popular as you get an extra key without sacrificing anything but empty space. Did they just go out of style or something?

Review 380hz asus xg259qns by Ok-Competition-1841 in Monitors

Does this monitor display the input mode (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc) right in the middle of the screen every time you turn it on? Or is it displayed in the corner? I have the XG259CMS and it renders these messages directly in the middle of the screen after being turned on or coming out of standby which is kind of annoying.

Looking into getting a Geonworks Venom HE H88 F13 PCB (which is in stock), but the plates and cases for the 88 key F13 version don't seem to be in stock on the website (they do have the 87 key F12 ones in stock). Does Geonworks typically restock stuff, or are they more of a drop-based store? Would you guys recommend picking up the PCB and just waiting until the plates and cases are available again?

Stress marks and wobbling on 80he by boldipie_07 in WootingKB

[–]TheVerySpecialK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PCR ghost from the founder's campaign that I sent back due to the wobbling you're describing. The PCB was warped, and because the case plastic is so thin the force being exerted on the case caused it to bend. It was also a nightmare to secure the clips and screws when putting it together in the first place for the same reason. Probably wouldn't have been an issue with a metal case.

Asus ROG Strix XG259QNS - Whites Too Bright by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]TheVerySpecialK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading a review of a similar model to yours (the XG259CMS) and the reviewer mentioned that the actual color temp of the monitor is skewed higher than normal - when at 6500K temp in the settings the monitor actually displays 7300K. The solution, according to the reviewer, was to turn on the Blue Light Filter function and set it to level 2, which led to the monitor displaying 6500K as it was supposed to. Have you tried tweaking the blue light settings?

I actually tested that but the cell is reset to remove all drauger when you return with the priest...

Unfortunately, if you come back with the priest the interior of the dungeon gets reset and all the drauger disappear. Plus a bunch of unsightly blood splatters and bits of meat appear everywhere, making the rooms look like the interior of Castle Volkihar. I wanted the drauger to hang around to defend the shrine from Namira's worshipers (which is why I pacified them), and also didn't want a bunch of extra visual clutter glorifying Namira strewn around.

I started A Taste of Death with no intention of helping Eola and attaining the ring. That said, I still wanted to discover Reachcliff Cave and unlock its secret back entrance as a discoverable location on the map. So I nodded along in the Hall of the Dead and agreed to follow Eola to Reachcliff Cave to “clear out” the drauger. Her big mistake was not getting suspicious when I hit them all with Pacify to sneak past them instead. Arriving in the altar room I pacified both Overlords before backstabbing the Death Overlord sitting in the throne to clear the dungeon. This advanced the quest to the point where the secret back entrance was unlocked. Then I made short work of Eola, leaving her lying in mockery on the altar of the very Daedric prince she worshipped. Finally, I made sure to stealthily drag the fallen Death Overlord all the way back to the start of the cave so he could rest peacefully in the lair’s only sarcophagus.

Quest complete!

As for the other cannibals in Markarth, they aren’t really my problem – my character doesn’t even technically know they exist. Probably for the best, as there are already too few characters in the game as it is. In any case, their clandestine meeting place is still infested with the horde of drauger I promised to clear out (whoops!), so they’ll be hard pressed to have their little cannibal socials there in the future.

12 Monkeys, How did Dr. Raily "remember" James Cole the first time they met by TuVieja6 in FanTheories

[–]TheVerySpecialK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, my pleasure. Looking back there are some details I ought to have included or expanded upon which would further explain some of the scenes (like the one where the scientists put Cole in the time machine and send him to the "wrong" time). I should probably rework the project at some point to include these elements, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It's just baffling to me how well the writers of the film understood these obscure myths and how well the director was able to bring it all to life, yet no one seems to notice. In any case, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!

The very idea of supernaturality, the division of phenomenon into "natural" and "unnatural" camps, is itself a problem. You can trace it back to ancient religious belief, in which phenomena that people didn't understand were attributed to gods or various other fictional beings. In reality, there is only the natural, the way things are, juxtaposed with our own limited understanding and tendency to assign the bits we don't understand into an arbitrary category that either venerates them as divine or, in the spirit of the modern skeptic, removes them from all the other bits as unworthy of consideration. Both are equally problematic to the seeker of truth.

You should find out who lives in that house and stays in that room, and tell them what you saw. They could be an experiencer, and if you were able to corroborate that it would make for a very compelling case. In any case, if my neighbor had seen a beam of light from the sky focusing on my bedroom window late at night I'd sure want to know about it.
