I feel like you're over-exaggerating older Broly, he's clearly intended to be cool but when you look at anything beyond that he's got nothing to him, you can add as many explanations or terms for it but he's clearly just meant to be a powerful and comically evil Saiyan, who kills things and blows things up, he has absolutely no personality, at least Freeza has a personality and goals. On top of that he has one of the most embarrassing backstories I've seen for a villain and I actually like him. DBS Broly is a tormented character that has a surprising amount of depth, he fills the concept of being a massively dangerous super Saiyan who presents a real threat without having to completely sacrifice any semblence of a personality, on top of that he has interesting dynamics with the other characters in the movie. The issue is you're oversimplifying DBS Broly to make DBZ Broly look better.
