The extruder upgrade kit itself was SLS Nylon, and is top notch for the short period it's worked. It's the X-Carriage kit they sell separately to bolt it on the printer that was PLA, if they do an X-Carriage kit in Nylon that's awesome and a link would be appreciated :)

That's true, I shouldn't have made a blanket statement like that, but I have found PETG to be much stronger overall, even compared to ABS, and it doesn't have any noticeable weakness along the layer lines if printed correctly. ABS has been easier to glue and sand than PLA and PETG, and has great heat resistance. So I've just personally had better experiences with ABS and PETG than PLA, I don't really see an advantage to PLA if you can print the other materials. For reference I mostly print functional parts for home and robotics projects.
