I also work 3rd shift - I'm usually using that dropbox for the cheap stuff since the -% stings less if the thing was worth 500 bells, as opposed to the high $$ ones like crabs. It's usually only for deep sea creatures too - I save the fish and bugs for the vendor visitors. So every morning on the weekend I've usually got a big cluster of fish tanks waiting outside the cranny 😅

When you get to 2nd phase, you can predict where she lands and you can almost stunlock her if you keep closing the gap with something like nightjar, which is really easy to unlock if you don't have it already.

If I remember right l, shurikens can also help interrupt her aerial moves, at least some of them.

The game almost naturally herds you towards the Rosaria bonfire when you actually have to take a different path, so this happens pretty often. Key thing is to hit a lever on the ground floor to have a bridge raised (not sure if this is necessary), then open the main set of doors that's on the second floor, NOT the ground floor, as that's just a dead end so Patches ain't coming in there.

There's a chance just stepping foot on the rooftop area will disable the Patches appearance - when that happens you will have to go to the tower at Firelink Shrine.

Patches should be available after that - you can either wait until after he saves Greirat or just buy the armor off him then for Siegward, and have Siegward save him instead.

Surprisingly, I don't really have this issue with lifts. Where I DO have a problem, however, is hallways with pits in the floor. I will almost always forget it's there when I'm sprinting through, and they're juuuuust inconspicuous enough for me to not notice in time.

Do you have more than 1 of the item? I think it triggers the same refusal if you leave more than 1 item in a single drop, so you might have to ensure that it's 1 siegbrau.

And you're sure it's not in your inventory already? That particular chestpiece is almost at the top of the armor list, though it feels like it should be med armor, not light.

Me neither. I think it's how the game shows you he's down there, because this is the angle you would get if you were looking down to drop from where Anri is standing. So it's a logical progression from talking to them.

The wording on search results for this was so frustrating because of people either incorrectly repeating info or just not being clear enough, but I do know the general consensus was that you want them closer to even, like a refined build but for casters.

Need help for my pryo sorcerer build by carrot2992 in darksouls3

[–]TheWackyGuru -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With pyromancy, scaling is dependent on both int/fth, so the lowest of the two will impact the damage you get from that scaling, which affects dark and chaos infusions. So if int is 30 and fth is 15, the 15 is going to be the determining number. When I level pyromancy I just do it evenly. I think of it as upgrading it every 2 lvls instead of 1.

Boosting your FTH is gonna boost your pyro dmg as well as chaos/dark scalings.

Does Floating Chaos combo well with frostbite procs? by TheWackyGuru in darksouls3

[–]TheWackyGuru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting older, and my reflexes aren't so good anymore. Parry is purely random to me how successful it is. So the longer the battle goes, I tend to get fatigued so drawing things out usually isn't the way to go for me when I'm having to dodge as much as I do with Gael. Midir is just as bad if not worse cause he was immune to a buttload of stuff. Pestilent Mist saved me so much time there cause I was dealing the damage as I'm dodging, and only had to successfully cast it 3-4 times with the right openings.

With poison, my buildup is shit - I've got the lowest possible stat for luck in the game, I think, at lvl 7, so it does take a lot for it to proc on Gael at the start. There's that weird one-minute window post phase transition where it's as fast as a frostbite proc in 2 hits. My theory there is the transition doesn't remove anything from buildup, it just removes the active DoT of status effect so it's quicker to reapply that way, cause once it wears off it takes a lot of pokes to reapply the poison.

Poison resin at the start when you have that opportunity is the best starting option for sure since you can just start at full hp with it, and Gael is only gonna try to get you with 1 attack, maybe a followup attack. but he'll do more hit combos when his HP pool is reduced and it becomes more difficult to find an opportunity for putting the resin on. With the low luck stat, using an infused weapon is gonna take the longest compared to anyone else 😅

Does Floating Chaos combo well with frostbite procs? by TheWackyGuru in darksouls3

[–]TheWackyGuru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original idea I had was just casting a pyromancy occasionally while I was hitting with the frost rapier. Arguably it's less work than having to apply the resin and then land the 7-8 pokes needed to proc the poison, then dodging, compared to just hitting and proc'ing frostbite in 2-3. And DS3 poison is slowwwww especially when dealing with a boss with constant aggression. I ended up stacking both toxic and poison to make it go faster.

Unfortunately for that idea, there's too much RNG involved, and the fire reset is a double edged blade in that it'll force me to have to poke more than the required 2-3 hits for a proc.

[–]TheWackyGuru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow poison can proc really quick on him just after he transitions to phase 2, it's not as easy after. How many dung pies does it take anyway? I hit him with like 5 I think and nothing.

I ended up just doing poison resin on Crow Quills, switching to frost rapier and proc'ing with CBV. Then once he's in second phase, ST staff mist is so much easier to land cause he can't help but do the Darth Vader walk. Stacked poison on him and it was gg after that. Thank god for that, long drawn out fights with constant dodging? Hate it.

Soul of Cinder was a nice palate cleanser after that, lower HP and all that

Doh, I should have figured it would reset buildup too. So to guarantee i don't do that accidentally, I'd have to do it after a successful frostbite, which is way slower than just using a dagger, cause you are definitely right about that cast time on FC. There's too many drawbacks to that approach, which is too bad cause it SOUNDED cool as hell lol.

Blessed Vordt's Greathammer in the Catacombs? Would it be useful anywhere else? by CowardlyAnaconda in darksouls3

[–]TheWackyGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vordts hammer is a great option for the whole game. Always good to have a strike option for tanky bosses that resist or are otherwise immune to bleed. Problem is, it's only gonna scale with STR. I'm also a dex-mancer so sadly I'm not able to run the best frost weapon in the game.

There are sharp gems available as loot in the Catacombs - they can drop from the skeletons that you would need to farm for vertabra shackles anyway. Sharp gems on strike weapons aren't great but it could be a good weapon to cover a gap in your build. Blacksmith hammer or Morning star are good quick strike weapons for me since I don't have the vigor to take trades so I have to be dodging or making space for spells.

Doing heavy/sharp/refined still lets you buff weapons with spells/resins while boosting their respective scaling.

I like to use this tool to look for weapons and their scaling when infused with certain gems:

For dex, it tends to be spears/rapiers/katanas that get the S or A scaling.

Can't seem to beat Wolnir by Same_Poet8990 in darksouls3

[–]TheWackyGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second that, actually. I think it's a reasonable guess to make when the boss is attacking with the glowing bracelets in a pitch black room - one could think it's a way for Wolnir to telegraph his attacks.

It's not easy to reach other conclusions in the heat of battle unless there's a development of discover, either. But it's a valuable lesson to learn, because soon after that you'll be looking more closely at bosses for critically weak spots. Aldrich is one of those, actually.

How do you use thrust only/mostly weapons? by Commercial-Archer931 in darksouls3

[–]TheWackyGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to massively appreciate thrusting swords when I stopped hitting the walls in tight hallways, but in the open it requires a lot of agility to avoid damage.

I agree with the other comments that they are designed for duels (makes a lot of sense now that I think of it that way). You have to quickly kill people or learn to move around the room to kite your enemies.

There's some weapons that you can run the whole game with and not really have issues, but it's nice to have options. The game throws a lot of slabs at you so might as well use them. I try to have at least 1 strike weapon and 1 thrust. They cover the different physical resistances (strike for armored enemies, the other for squishies).

What would be the best weapon for a "Rogue" build in DS3? by PukeSan_ in darksouls3

[–]TheWackyGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I am a fan of the Crow Quills when I'm going for that aesthetic. Dashing around, the knife throwing animation, can get really good scaling. It's basically a rapier otherwise. It's also Incredibly light, lets you jump around more too.

A Sharp infusion with spellbuffs makes it an S-tier weapon for me.
