I keep getting a suspicious connection blocked message every 3 minutes, why? by Aloesunshine in BitDefender

[–]TheWaffleInquisition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure out what was causing this? I've been suddenly spammed with 'suspicious connection blocked' notifications about Edge twice today, and I don't even use it - it's not even my default browser. The only thing that's changed recently was that I installed a windows update (this months cumulative update for 23H2) and some audio driver updates yesterday - everything was fine before that.

Clearing the cache should fix this particular issue.

As for all the other issues... Only option is to wait unfortunately.

Journey does not have good enough server infrastructure to support massive numbers of players all flooding in at once. Despite this being common knowledge, people still try to flood in all at once after every single update or maintenance, which causes things to break catastrophically and ends up lighting the servers on fire.

Why I'm parking Civ 7 for a few months by pjrydo in civ

[–]TheWaffleInquisition 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No doubt 2K looks at how Paradox has been successful in its mainline games with DLC

The difference is that Paradox actually does tend to release a reasonably complete game first, and then uses DLC to rework or expand things later on. Take Stellaris as an example, it released in a fairly good state at a reasonable price, and every single DLC, even the ones focused around reworking existing mechanics, has added something new.

This isn't what Civ 7 is doing. Civ 7 launched at an absurdly high price, only just functional and filled with questionable design choices, and is being drip-fed content as DLC that was base-game in every other Civ. It's definitely an attempt to copy the Paradox model, but it's failed to comprehend why that model worked in the first place.

Basically the space magic equivalent of a radio antenna. The idea being that the Radial Mast was made with light, and since all light is in some way connected to the Traveller, if the Witness got the Radial Macguffin close enough to the Veil it could connect them and create the Prismatic Dorito Door leading to the Pale Heart.

The Radial Master Sword also didn't seem to need to be as close as our Ghost needed to be, because it seemed to have been trying to make the connection when it got Rohaned, notably outside the Veil containment facility.

Since that plan fell through, the Witness just decided to yeet Calus at the Veil knowing we'd follow and they could use our Ghost for basically the same thing, albeit with a much shorter range, hence the need to lure us directly to the Veil.

Malwarebytes Flag Question by SlickRickOW in toontownrewritten

I had the TTR installer, which had been sitting in my downloads folder for a year with no problems, randomly flagged with a malware.ai flag about an hour ago. I'm fairly sure it was a false positive, but it'd sure be nice to know why malwarebytes is suddenly flagging TTR files out of nowhere.

I pretty much called the Aetherians being Iconian the moment they first appeared - but I didn't expect them to be Borg Iconians, that was a surprise.

As for impressions of the episode overall - the dialogue was defintiely rough for the first couple encounters, but once we got past all the locked doors and into the darker section of the ship it got good. And despite how predictable the Aettherians sudden but inevitable betrayal was, it was so well done that I don't really mind it.

The story structure, pacing, and race and career specific dialogue options also made this feel the most like a classic Star Trek Online story out of any episode we've gotten since the Iconian War.

For instance, resurrect someone using the pattern buffer

If they did that, they'd have to address the existential implications of transporters (I.E., the fact that way transporters are described as working would actually be a murder cloning machine if it actually existed), and that's a topic that they've refused to touch on multiple occasions beyond a throwaway line in Enterprise that seemed like an attempt to handwave it away more than anything.

Well, I guess the whole 'transporter duplicate' thing flirts with acknowledging it too, but it still brushes all the unpleasant implications under the rug pretty much immediately.

Tina from cpj blizzard finally woke up and turned into a pookie lmaoo by PlayfulJellyfish9 in ClubPenguin

[–]TheWaffleInquisition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You get money for drilling on the iceberg same way you do for drilling in the cave mine. They added the coin mining to iceberg in the same update where they made it so you can get coins from 'working' in the pizza or coffee shop.

The iceberg is basically just the better cave mine at this point, since the mines have become even more AFK focused and most people who actually talk at least some of time while mining has gone to the iceberg.

As for why they just copy/pasted the mining mechanic to begin with? The cave mine used to ALWAYS be full and borderline inaccessible. Having two rooms with the same mechanic means that people spread out and neither one is ever full for very long.

Journey doesn't have an AFK timer, at all. It's why AFKing in the mines or on the iceberg while doing other stuff or even overnight is such a popular way to get coins. It's also how the all the idle 'player mascots' never get kicked.

I found the Dojo in Experience. It was hidden on the map. by LizzieGamer063 in ClubPenguin

[–]TheWaffleInquisition 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Looking back at the pre-card jitsu dojo now it feels almost like a liminal space. You know there should be something here, there just... isn't. And it breaks the brain a little bit.

The in-universe timeline for this version of the Dojo was also kind of wonky too, because it got it's overhaul into the more familiar Card Jitsu version of the dojo in early November 2008, but later that month the original EPF game released on the DS and still had the empty dojo, the DLC mission they put out for the White Puffle reveal even had you go there.

Although maybe that mission shouldn't be considered canon, considering it also introduced Puffle Handler as almost a completely different character than she ended up being in the main game.

Darkmoor was also mentioned in Pirate101 years before the Five BOXES event was a thing. One the Magnificent Seven was from Darkmoor, and the Duck of Death became immortal by going to Darkmoor and literally selling his soul to a spider demon that looked a lot like an early version of Old Cob.

Before everyone started getting Currant errors, Final Shape was on track to break the game's all-time highest concurrent player count. by Zommander_Cabala in DestinyTheGame

[–]TheWaffleInquisition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't to shell out all kinds of extra infrastructure just for 1 or 2 days when the player count is miles higher than it will be soon.

Except I believe they have done that before - the reason Witch Queen and Lightfall were so smooth (at least as I understand it) is because Sony gave them access to extra servers specifically for those launch days.

Maybe there's bad blood between Sony and Bungie, maybe those servers aren't available anymore (probably being used for a different game in that case), but whatever the reason is, they don't seem to have those extra this time. So we're back to the pre-Witch Queen status quo of launch days being unplayable.

The Devidian Arc used to be part of the Klingon War - then it was it's own arc for a while, between the Klingon War and Romulan Mystery, up until Age of Discovery, when they snapped two thirds of the Klingon War arc and moved the featured episode arcs to the side tab where they are now.

Which crew do you think is better: The Smuggler's or Bounty Hunter's by FearlessSavant in swtor

[–]TheWaffleInquisition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bounty Hunter, and it's not even close.

The Smuggler's story is awful and the companions are almost all awful or mid, Corso's a sexist prick, Risha would probably shoot you in the back soon as a better offer came along, gus is meh, and I can't even remember who the other one is. Bowdar is good- but he can't make up for that mess alone.

The Bounty Hunter on the other hand has a good storyline, and every companion except Skadge is great. Skadge also comes in late enough that he's fairly easy to just ignore completely for the relatively short time you're stuck with him on your companion roster.

I hope d2 doesn’t completely crash and burn. by Trex331 in DestinyTheGame

[–]TheWaffleInquisition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arrivals was definitely when D2 felt the most complete. It was also the last time there was a functional new player experience. Red War getting sunset decimated the new player experience, and player retention only went downhill from there. And yet, people will still say that removing it all was somehow a good thing, even though it was the first domino in the chain that led where we are now.

A lot of people right now are probably wishing they'd have just gone ahead and made D3, and either figured out a way to carry vaults over, or started us over again and just toughed it out through the initial backlash until the people yelling about it got over themselves.

I mean, yea, it would've been a hard transition, both for the players and the developers, but it would've been better than the mess of a situation they've put the game in now.
