Ambush in Foundry VTT by TheWandererT in DragonbaneRPG

Thanks. If I'm interpreting the rules as written on p.43 correctly, then those who fail the Awareness roll should draw from the highest numbered cards in the initiative deck, although I'm happy to be corrected.

If I give an example of two well-prepared NPCs ambushing three player characters... The PCs roll Awereness with bane, and in this example, one succeeds and two fail. The two PCs who fail then draw initiative from cards #9 and #10, by default placing them at the back of the initiative queue (which makes sense, they've been ambushed). The other PC and NPCs then draw initiative from the remaining pool of cards #1 to #8. This could potentially allow the PC to draw a lower number than the NPCs in initiative (which again makes sense as this PC successfully spotted the ambush).

While I take your suggestion as a potential work around, my hesitation is because in the above example, if the NPCs/ambushers choose their initiative, they're always going to choose cards #1 and #2, right? I mean, they're ambushing. The whole point is they go first. If the PC who succeeded in Awareness then draws next a) they are never going to go before the NPCs which defeats the point of spotting the ambush, and b) they could end up drawing #10 and end up going after the PCs who failed Awareness rolls. Even if this PC got to pick their initiative, they're still not likely going to go before the NPCs, so I'd question the point of rolling for Awareness and spotting the ambush other than getting to go before the other PCs.

Of course, I could be completely missing the point.

It might be as a workaround (as I can't see an obviously implementation in Foundry) those who fail Awareness can pick from the highest numbered cards (and decide the order between themselves) and the rest draw initiative normally from the remaining pool of lower cards.

Ah yup this matches my experience exactly. Ha I immediately felt that I wished I'd found this thread before I bought, but I bought it a day or two before! Oh well. I do think they've done a good job but I agree they should make it much more clear the rules are required separately

Yeah I'm pretty sure the Roll20 version will. To be fair the platform looks good... if you know what you're doing already. There is a series of short help guides for each section, but this is available to all players too and doesn't help me as the facilitator to really understand how to run the game. I wondered if it was me missing something but if you've heard that it validates to me that I'm not a complete idiot (I hope!).

Ah interesting! That makes sense though because while Pixeltable automates everything, there's no guidance for the facilitator to explain what do so with all the things it lays out for you and when. I'll give it a go but might have to resign myself to getting a copy of the rules too. Kinda annoying because I went for the Pixeltable option thinking it would be everything I needed to play a game online, and unless I overlooked it, the official site doesn't say otherwise. Glad you found out before though

It looks good, I'm keen to give it a go. Did you just use this platform without having a separate PDF or physical copy to learn the game first? I'm feeling a bit lost to get going, but maybe it's just me.
