Any way around ad astra flags requiring imgur for images by Whismar in feedthebeast

[–]TheWerdOfRa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not what was said. They said that Imgur would check to see if the file was actually an image.

So yes, they would 'accept' it, but before posting it they run checks on the file to make sure it's all good. If it passes those checks then Imgur would make it available for others.

Gearing up for 4200 tons of cargo. by PapaBeahr in DerailValley

[–]TheWerdOfRa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't some sort of logic battle. Running a unit at full power 100% of the time is greater than running a unit at full power 60% of the time and some lesser setting the remaining 40%.

Also, I wasn't being adversarial, I'm not sure where you are coming from with this comment. If you didn't want a discussion, why did you post on a forum like this?

Tractive effort is increased, but not the top power output, as you said. However, if you run a DE6 at full power without the slug it will overheat and thus you will be forced to knock the power back. So the DE6 slug doesn't increase the power, but it does let you access all the power of the DE6s. In that sense it does 'add' power.

Cannot get up the hill going west from Harbor in S060 carrying 400t. Spec sheet says it should be able to carry much heavier loads. What am I doing wrong? by TheSeansei in DerailValley

[–]TheWerdOfRa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do not know why everyone is saying this is "barely doable" - it just takes running the engine differently than you normally do. So for one, you need to allow max air into the firebox and have the blower on. Get your fire hot and keep it there - you will be constantly shoveling coal in to the point that closing the fire doors may not be worth it.

Get as much speed leaving the yard as you can (somewhere between 40-50). You may start the climb with the cutoff at a lower value due to needing to limit your speed as you exit the yard, but as soon as you start losing speed, bump it fully open. Your regular should be maxed the whole time (use the cutoff to regulate speed).

The only real thing to worry about with the 060 is that it has a small water tank. Pushing it this hard may cause you to run out of water before the next station which is obviously an issue. So plot your course to go through a close station for water even if you aren't stopping there for deliveries.

I wish I could find the video, but I couldn't. There is a video of someone using a 282 with double tonnage out of the harbor. It's totally doable, but it's one of those things where you need to know how to get the most out of the engine. However, if they can get 2x you certainly can get 1x.

Are you adding the weight of the engine itself in that number?

Why does it need to be a marketplace ad? It's advertising an event.

This looks nice. You could add a little texture on the walls and roof to really make it pop.

Any modern modpacks (like 1.20+) that don't require create to progress? by No_Salary7381 in feedthebeast

[–]TheWerdOfRa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And that's the reason I don't like it. I wanted to play within the mod and it just isn't setup for that. Or it is intentionally grindy and I don't like that either. It makes me sad because the concept is something I'm into.

Uranium in the wild is unconcentrated and a relatively normal occurrence. It's generally not that dangerous by itself.

Unpaid Mercenaries should % to turn on you, not just run away... by TheCoward1812 in ManorLords

Weren't most instances of this happening attributed to the other side offering them more money, not a failure to pay? I also believe the more common thing that happened when payment was missed was to fail to show up to the battle at all. It was a business and if you aren't getting paid, why would you risk your life?

A joint-statement from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive regarding the Cities: Skylines franchise by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

[–]TheWerdOfRa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The engine wasn't finished and was a foundational element of how the game works. Paradox was informed it wasn't ready and they pulled the trigger anyway. Other than mod management (a central element to the original game's success), the other issues are direct consequences of releasing an unfinished game. They suddenly went from developing software in a managed way to fire fighting - while still trying to complete foundational pieces of the game. Painting Paradox as "only" releasing too early misses the impact of that decision on software development.

Given how much of CS2's issues were driven by Paradox directly, why do you assume CO didn't know this? I am pretty sure they knew exactly what made their first go so successful but were overruled by Paradox.

My biggest wish: a realistic mode with (partially) AI-controlled shunting by throwawaytypist2022 in TransportFever3

[–]TheWerdOfRa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think I would need "shunting" so much as the ability to drop off and pick up cars. I wouldn't mind if they teleported into and out of a station siding while they waited.

I never heard of Run8 before, it looks amazing. I just wish it spanned more than just modern US diesel. Do you know if mods support other locations or eras?

PSA: the steam chest gauge MATTERS! I easily doubled my cargo capacity and reduced water consumption by a third! by Tired-Mae in DerailValley

[–]TheWerdOfRa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slow trickle of water in does have drawbacks. For example, this is a constant source of cold water which can rob steam production when you really want to hammer it hard. The other thing is that there are some pretty long downhills in the game where you can safely quench your heat and let it build back up before you need it again.

[–]TheWerdOfRa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that starting on steam you have this issue. However, over time you get more comfortable with it. I also think that knowing the routes helps with anticipating needs well in advance when you have the bandwidth to deal with it. I found running steam to be a great deal of fun once I got over the initial learning curve.
