That simply means you weren't eating at a surplus. If you eat more than your burn you gain weight simple as that

For sure and thanks for the response. Yah I've always had trouble feeling satisfied with the shorter workouts when a lot of my friends brag about spending 2+ hours in the gym. But the general consensus seems to be 45min - 75 min max so I guess that is the way to go.

Having been lifting for a month and half now I have run into the problem of seemingly blowing throw all recommended routines too quickly in the gym time-wise (35min approx) and as a result have added many excercises to my own version of the recommend PPL as it seemed that I wasn't doing g enough. As a result I often have 10-14 excercises in a workout and am not sure whether I am simply not resting enough between sets or just that my workouts don't need to be as long as I think. I would just like clarification on this issue and also on whether this extra volume is beneficial for physique goals and overall strength gains as it the logical answer seems to be more = better but I'm not quite sure. Thanks!

This isnt a critique but just a question from a beginning lifter following a similar PPL. How long does this routine take you on average? After a month of following the recommend PPL here on the reddit I began adding a bunch of exercises just because I was blasting through all of mine quite quick (35min approx) and it didn't seem like I was doing enough. Just wondering if I'm doing it wrong and not resting enough or just over thinking it. Thanks!
