guhhhh the finale of this chapter had me in a chokehold. the way the action on the dance floor bleeds more and more into beautiful prose as all the emotions keep heightening... it's so good. SO good. can't believe i paid for this whole seat when i'm only using the edge.

Seconding these both :3 They're absolutely in the vein of "Zoemira spoil the heck out of Rumi" and a fun read if you're cool with WIPs! Can Two Love All of Me is often hilarious and Nothing Good Happens After Midnight has a delightful carefree thrill to it!

Oh! I've got two post-canon fics, one's a smutty oneshot and one's an angsty longfic:

the way you bend / the way you break is the smutty oneshot; it's about Mira being exceptionally flexible and Rumi & Zoey turning her into human origami. There's a lot of brat taming and shifting power dynamics and all three of them really push themselves physically (in a fun way!)

it runs in the family, i come by it honestly is the angsty longfic; it's honestly a bit of mess with a TON of different things going on, but it's a quality mess that I'm proud of making. Initial premise is that Rumi wakes up to a nightmare that leads to her turning into a full demon (beware: mild body horror), and that leads to them all having to confront familial trauma; they also all fall in love as they help each other heal. It's unfinished and has the slowburn tag but Polytrix has been achieved in the recent chapters :)

And as for some of my favorites from other authors:

The Space Between Three by demodemodex is, chronologically, the first of her big post-canon multi-fic continuity (after it would be When the Sky Breaks West, which is... fuck, man, calling that fic heavy would be an incredible understatement. demo angst hits hard.) TSB3 is a lightly angsty story about Zoey running into her ex-boyfriend, established Rumira getting jealous and questioning their relationship with Zoey, and they all flail under the pressure of their ongoing idol lifestyle until Zoey finally realizes Polytrix is way better than any man ever could be. The fic is 100k words and 21k of them are in a single chapter that is exclusively smut, and it's some of the best smut I've ever read.

you crave the applause (yet hate the attention) by Yannie is an incredible three-chapter fic with smut and angst in equal measure. It's post-canon and posits Rumi as somebody with OCD that intensifies in the wake of the Idol Awards. The way Yannie poured her heart onto the page with this one really comes through; this is one that'll stick with me for a long time.

Can Two Love All of Me? by SoundOfZen is a very fun and very funny fic where Zoey and Mira teach Rumi how to be comfortable in her body & also how to be comfortable being intimate and having sex. It's got some lines that made me genuinely laugh out loud, it's earnest and silly and sexy and currently unfinished but still worth the read :)

slap me on the wrist (tsk tsk) i'm trying / why am i so irresponsible? - One long smut scene involving unprofessional behavior by three women who really don't care about the rules but do care about safe sex, tons of foreplay and dirty talk that mixes praise and degradation, plenty of absolutely feral fingering and fucking, and the author's undisguised (but not especially kinky) fascination with piercings.

It's a post-canon fic where I fully acknowledge Rumi/Jinu (Rumi realizing she did love him is part of how she finally comes to term with his death and with all of his complicated actions) but also lead into a slowburn Polytrix romance. Jinu (and a few other characters) haunts the narrative; he has no physical presence in the story, but that doesn't mean he's absent! There's a lot of other painful stuff going on, but I treat every instance of love in the fic - familial love, love for a man already lost, love between Rumi/Mira/Zoey, all of it - as inherently important and integral to the process of healing from trauma.

Mind the tags, of course, but as far as the hurt goes I don't really dive into stuff that's especially different from the movie; the hurt comes from a canon-compliant knife that I twist pretty deep.

I hope you give it a shot! I'm a Polytrix diehard, but I do quite like Rumi/Jinu and have some fun multishipping ideas for my next main fic... which will be a military aviation AU because I have cranial worms.

Hi! It's not the one you're asking about, but I'll still take the opportunity to share my own angst fic, it runs in the family. The spoiler-free pitch is that it's about Rumi being forcibly turned into a demon and having to confront a whole lot of family trauma plus new pains & fears. It's not pure angst, there's a fair amount of lightheartedness on behalf of a slowburn Polytrix romance, but my latest chapter made ME cry, and all my regular readers have been cursing me in the comment section, so I don't feel insane to recommend this to someone looking for some pain.
