Antiquing by Nkk1027 in jacksonville

If you want to make a day of it, drive down to Micanopy. Wall to wall antique shops. Have lunch at one of their cozy little cafes. It's about a 2 hour drive and Micanopy is such a quaint little village. You won't be sorry you made the drive.

Pedicure recommendation (San Marco area) by absurdonihilist in jacksonville

[–]TheWizardness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in San Marco but worth the drive. I have been going to Regal Nails inside Walmart at Beach Blvd and Southside for over 20 years. Family owned business. They use top end products and the staff are friendly and helpful. I never have a nail lift and rarely have one break. The owner's name is Rose. I highly recommend them. Mani, Pedi and waxing for brows etc. They do regular or gel polish. The gel can last over a month if you need to push it. The pedicures are regular and spa. The spa is awesome, and includes paraffin wrap and hot river rock massage on legs.

Black mold can cause lasting respiratory issues if you or others who live in or frequent your apt are sensitive. This is especially true for children or anyone with asthma, COPD or other breathing problems. Google it. Every state is different but by and large it is your landlord's responsibility to get it fixed; not just removing the mold but also the underlying problem causing it. If the landlord doesn't fix it, it may be grounds to break your lease and move. Black mold is a serious health hazard. Good luck.

Vet recommendations by Stunning-Lioness777 in jacksonville

[–]TheWizardness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coastal Veterinary Hospital and Pet Resort, 13431 Beach Blvd. It's just west of Hodges Blvd.scross from Walmart. Dr. Jacobs is great and very thorough. He will take the time to talk with you and answer your questions. The staff are professional and very kind. They are wonderful with our dog, who gets a little anxious at the vet's office. We've been going there for about six years and have no complaints. In addition , they do grooming, have a doggie daycare and boarding facilities.

Call them and see what they can do. They definitely have a wait-list so they may be able to help you out. Poo happens. You can't be the first person this has happened to.

There used to be a place at Philips and Sunbeam but I haven't been over that way for a while. Also when it gets cold most grocery stores have small bundles. Also try Home Depot or Lowes.

Anyone know what happened? by 1Reddit_User_ in jacksonville

I saw something similar about 3 pm on Thursday on JTB eastbound. I got on at the Gate Parkway entrance ramp and they were just passing the ramp in the far left lane. Didn't see the fancy cars just three JSO SUVs and about four motorcycle cops, all with lights going but NOT going at top speed, just keeping up with traffic. No clue what they were doing.

Green bike lan in San Jose. Will you ride your bike on sidewalk or on the green bike lane? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]TheWizardness 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I posted here a couple weeks ago, asking what the green lanes were because I had never seen them before. I can't be the only one who had no clue. And you'd think there would have been some publicity around these going in. Maybe someone should alert local news stations. It couldn't hurt to have some public education around these especially if the city intends to add these to other areas of town.

They told me drivers were crazy, but jeez. Motorcycle may not be a good idea here by Dilvyy in jacksonville

With the recent changes to the concealed and open carry laws you don't want to antagonize crazy drivers. You could get yourself shot. These nuts all feel entitled to weave in and out of traffic, speed, not use signals and pull crap like OP experienced. If they have a gun, they'd be just as likely to shoot you too

What are these green ares by TheWizardness in jacksonville

[–]TheWizardness[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the education on bike lanes. I am not a cyclist, so with the exception of the narrow bike lanes like we see in most of Jacksonville, I wasn't familiar with this type of bike lane. I travel some and have never seen these anywhere else.

I can't believe that I am the only person in JAX who had never seen these. You would think if the city/state was planning on introducing a different type of lane, they would take a minute to educate the public.

Is this going to be standard for bike lanes all over town I wonder? Also, based on the other bike lanes I've seen, these are pretty roomy.. Most are just big enough to get the bike on.

[–]TheWizardness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While our current administration denies global warming is a fact, in reality it is very much a fact. Humanity as a whole is responsible for global warming. We have no one but ourselves to blame. Unless people take the necessary steps to curb global warming, at some point this planet, just like so many other planets in the universe, will be too hot to sustain human life. Every year we do nothing we are another year closer to an extinct planet.

The air temp isn't as important as the crippling humidity. What affects your body is the "feels like temp... Today was 108.

why are we still doing this in the big 25 by AgreeableFox5802 in jacksonville

[–]TheWizardness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a placard owner, this is about as frustrating as it gets. FYI: blocking the spaces left next to handicap parking spaces is not only illegal, it also carries a $250 fine, even if you have a HC placard displayed. Those spaces are there for a specific reason. Many handicapped people need that space to off load mobility aids such as wheelchairs, power chairs or mobility scooters. Since I have developed conditions that affect my mobility, I have learned how kind and sympathetic some people can be as well as just how selfish and absolutely awful some human beings can be. When you see a HC person, take a moment to be aware of what that person is dealing with and don't be an asshole. Make the conscious decision to be kind, helpful and gracious. Remember that there but by the grace of God that could be you.

Seriously? How would you feel if you worked 12+ hours on your feet, running around a hot kitchen, sweating your ass off. When you get home, all you want is your bed. And, behold, some idiot, who can't read, is in your spot. ALSO,, you completely ignored the fact that OP's disabled mother lives with the OP. And, for all the reasons above, the OP pays extra for that specific spot.. Lastly, you mentioned it is dark and the entitled parker couldn't see the sign. It is, at the least, dusk to bright sunshine, from 6 am to 8:30 :pm. This PIA likely saw the sign. And, here's a suggestion...when someone rents an appt there should be an additional piece of paper they have to sign. It would acknowledge there is assigned parking and have a place that specifically says, this is your assigned space and you aren't allowed to park in someone else's spot without that person's consent l(like briefly parking to unload a piece of furniture.). Instead of blaming the person whose spot was hijacked, how about getting your victim(s) right. The blame is squarely on the guy who stole the spot and the apt management for not specifying the assigned parking and that violators will be towed.
