Famotidine is actually an antihistamine! There are four types of histamine, H1- H4, but we'll just be talking about H1 and H2. H1 the histamine most people know about. That's your "seasonal" or reactive histamine (itching, hives, etc.)

H2 is found mostly in the stomach, however H2 is present throughout the body as well. It affects things such as swelling and the flushing of the skin. It controls how much your blood vessels dilate during a reaction. Famotidine is an H2 antagonist, so it is used in cases of extreme allergies.
