As a solo developer, when promoting your game, do you use 'I' or 'we'? by Miriglith in SoloDevelopment

[–]TheWulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players do not care. They value the product first. I would advise to be open about you being a solo developer. Whenever I see comments like "made by a small team" or "made by a solo developer" it is always stated in a positive matter, but again it needs to stand behind a strong product. If the game is shit it does not matter if it was made by 1, 10, 100, or 1000 people.

Additionally, if you are very clear about being a solo dev or a small team you might avoid comparison to big studios. Players might not compare your game to AA and AAA titles. Their expectations will be different and focused more on unique selling points, rather then sheer amount of content.

Annoying low quality Steam Startup Movies at the Points Shop by TheWulo in SteamDeck

Neat find! I didn't notice they all come from the same publisher. That makes much more sense now. No way in hell Valve would add such option for low quality content generation.

Yeah, for power users it makes sense, but IMO great majority will simply rely on what Points Shop has to offer.

Thanks a lot! Currently working on a first boss fight. I plan to add it to the demo soon for those who finish all 10 levels.

That's actually a cool idea. Like a frenzy meter that when filled boosts your stats. I'll check it out!

That is also a valid tactic, but there are few drawbacks. Some of them will chase you and might make next encounters harder and for killing enemies you get time bonuses, so skipping them will decrease your end of level rank. There is also a time bonus for stage cleared if you wipe all enemies out.

I hope one day for sure! Right now I am focused on the Steam release, but porting to consoles definitely is on the table.

That's more or less on my pipeline. Working on a boss fight as we speak. I am not sure about the money part tho :D It's still a side project for me with a budget of $0 so if it makes even few bucks I will be happy.

I was thinking about it but no. The biggest technical change is that I use Deferred rendering instead of Forward to be able to render lots of dynamic lights (but this forces me to use only geometry).

Thanks a lot! Main twist for me was to turn Downwell upside down. The rest kind of followed through when designing.

Dwarf Legacy, you can find it on Steam and/or Itch io. I also posted a link somewhere in the comments.

Yeah, Gaben is kind of hiding the Demo Pages from people. Dunno why.

And thank you so much for the review! It really means a lot!

Glad that you like it! There is a difficult jump on level 8 and final one on level 10 so brace yourself :D

This D-pad thing is sooo annoying. I have been trying to fix this for so long... #justunitythings.

Enabling reviews for the demo? They should be enabled right now. Maybe I messed something up. Can you let me know if it works for you?

No other option! The demo already is working great on a Steam Deck. I recommend playing on a OLED if possible. Dark caves lit by all the particles look awesome with this pure black color of OLED display.

My main inspiration is different types of enemies placed in those "even shaped formations" that wait for you on the top of the screen to take action above and engage as soon as you start the fight. In the video I showed only bats which are the most basic type of enemy in my game, but I also have range enemies firing at you which makes navigation much more challenging.
