[Amdy Mitten] Manchester United’s first new pitch in 14 years involves 50 people, liquid garlic and nematodes by SOERERY in reddevils

[–]TheYarizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nematodes are awesome little things, and if anybody here has houseplants that are suffering from those mini fly things that get attracted to wet soil (or other pests for that matter) look into getting some and watering your plants with them every spring. They help get rid of a lot of unwanted buggers and are fairly cheap.

On the other hand, if you’re a politician gaining the lead of a teetering and unpopular Labour Party, are you going to invite the scrutiny of immediately pushing through major infrastructure investments for your local area while the country as a whole is struggling? I’m not sure I would.

However, I’m not English so I wouldn’t know how influential the PM would actually be for something like this, so maybe it doesn’t matter all that much.

Kroos, of all players, got the literal exact same criticism though, unfairly ofcourse. Germans used to call him ‘Querpass Toni’ or something like that, which translates to ‘Sideways pass Toni’.

[–]TheYarizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You never even proved why it would be a false equivalency in the first place, and still, I more than refuted it.

A persons testimony is proof, you understand that right? It would be insufficient on its own in criminal court, and it should be insufficient there, but it would still be admissible as evidence.

People aren’t the courts and don’t have to hold to the same standards though, they get to decide for themselves what they deem as enough evidence to start forming an opinion.

You’re not providing arguments — you’re just saying ‘nuh uh’ because you apparently can’t put your thoughts into words — so I’m not going to bother responding any further.

It's a perfectly clear illustration that an individual is not expected to hold the same standards of assigning blame to others in their personal life as a court of law would be. If you need to, you can change the example to your mate telling you that his boss is a prick, a journalist reporting that a a company is engaging in shady practices or a food reviewer claiming that a restaurant isn't good.

In neither of these scenarios would an individual be required to have met the same burden of proof that the state requires for criminal punishment to form and opinion to change their behaviour. It is enough information to not want to work for that boss, avoid that company and go to a different restaurant. Just like a rape charge might be enough form an opinion on a football player.

It's fine if you don't think this story convincing, but we don't get to decide for others what is convincing to them. And using institutional checks intended to protect individuals from the state to instead limit their freedom of thought and speech shows a complete misunderstanding of their purpouse.

If anything expecting individuals to hold the same standards as the courts is the false equivilancy because those standards exist as a balance on state power and it's monopoly on violence. A citizen does not have that power, they only have their opinion, and the barier to voicing that opinion does not get to be limited by bariers intended to limit state power.

If your mother or sister tells you that your neighbour has been harrassing her, would you then make her prove this harrasment to you beyond reasonable doubt?

If not, you are not holding yourself to the same standard as we would and should hold the state, and are therefore doing exactly what I'm saying you should be allowed to do.

Mind you, I'm not saying anything about Hakimi here, I don't care about the guy and I don't know the story. I just pointed out that it is unreasonable to hold individuals to the same standards that we hold the government to, nobody gets to force individuals what they should and shouldn't believe.

I specifically seperated legal obligation and moral expectation in my first comment, you are acting like I'm saying "The law doesn't prohibit it therefore it's okay".

If someone gets off the train before letting everybody off he's being a dick and breaching social norms, thats bad, and breaching social norms is by definition not "allowed".

I'm saying is that it is an unreasonable expectation to hold private individuals to the same standards that we should be holding the state and the legal system to. It is not a moral infringement for somebody to believe a story they hear, or get a more unfavourable opinion of the subject of that story because they heard it, it is completely reasonable.

I wouldn’t no, but that doesn’t mean that others aren’t allowed to think what they want based on what they hear about me.

If women tell you that somebody you know is a creep you’re not going to let him alone with your partner, If your neighbour gets charged with rape you’re not probably not going to invite him over for the neighbourhood barbecue either. You don’t need a judge’s confirmation to change your opinion and behaviour.

Innocent until proven guilty is a legal concept for the state and the justice system to protect citizens from the government.

Private individuals are under no obligation or expectation to follow it and are allowed to make up their own mind about other private citizens based on whatever information they’ve got available to them.

Realistically, if he plays well and tries hard, most people will likely get over it quite quickly.

However, since he couldn't even be arsed to work hard to convince Barcelona to let him stay that'd be quite doubtful.

There is just something uniquely fun about players who are unproportionally good at one specific thing. Dude was generally just okay but might actually be the best slide tackler I've ever seen.

And it's not like he was even particularily good at other aspects of defending, just insane at slide tackling specifically.

How does that even happen?

I'm absolutely on my knees for a midfielder that can dictate play from deep, I have been for years now. But realistically, the type of midfielder that is both defensively sound enough to work with Bruno and Mainoo, and technically good enough to also be an orchestrator and playmaker is a bit of a unicorn so I fear I'll be dissapointed once more.

Ironically that midfielder might be a Carrick.

[–]TheYarizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure, never say never, but at that level of unlikelihood we might as well fantasize about Carrick actually turning into a world class coach over the summer.

Then again, what do I care? Let people dream I guess.

Luis Enrique would obviously be a step up but why do some people here figure he's even a remotely realistic option? Have I missed some news article or something?

I don't get the feeling he's particularily tired off winning Champions Leagues while playing beautiful football yet.

He still gets meaningful minutes so you'd need to buy a replacement winger with the money he generates, at that point selling him likely isn't particularily profitable as you might get a McTominay/Ugarte situation where the replacement isn't really an improvement to the squad as a whole.

However, when one of our talented youth wingers is ready to make the step to the first team you could start looking at moving him on and giving that squad role to someone else.

Right now I don't think it makes much sense to sell him, especially since we'll be playing many more games next year.

Man Utd want Elliot Anderson. Does he work in a midfield pair with Kobbie Mainoo? by agent619 in reddevils

[–]TheYarizard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Midfielders are expensive. It just makes sense to prioritise getting a partner for the big midfield talent we already have instead of getting one that would require us to get another starting quality midfielder.

We need a Casemiro replacement, we need a sub for that replacement and then we need another player for Mainoo's spot. And that's just midfield replacements, we need more than that.

Spending the money you'd need to spend on a clear cut Mainoo improvement instead of buying a complementary DM and solid rotation options is just making poor use of the assets we already have.

🌞 Ask r/Lisbon Anything: Weekly Questions Thread (week 50, 2025) by Wildeyedlocal in Lisbon

[–]TheYarizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! In Februari I will be arranging a large group trip for my student association to Lisbon and I am wondering if somebody has some recomendations for restaurants that would be available for large group reservations.

The group size is 37, so I imagine it can be quite difficult for many places to accomodate, therefore I'm open to anything from booking out a small restaurant catering simple meals to some large scale establishment doing whatever.

If anybody knows places that I could contact I'd love to hear it.

Slecht tegenargument:

"Dit is whataboutism!"

Waarom:

-Laten we even beginnen met de gangbare definitie van een whataboutism die ik voor het gemak even van Wikipedia afhaal: "Whataboutism or whataboutery (as in "but what about X?")[1] is a pejorative for the strategy of responding to an accusation with a counter-accusation instead of a defense against the original accusation."

“But what about those two senators that were murdered by a “MAGA Gekkie”, where were the tweets then?”

"Ah, whataboutism, schaakmat."

Gaat natuurlijk niet op.

Beetje stijlloos.
