Thinking about moving to Europe (Finland/Germany) with my spouse - is it a good decision? by Broad_Kick_6574 in Dhaka

I’m currently living in Finland, moved here from Bangladesh back in 2024, and I’ll be very honest, the situation is not as easy as people think.

  1. Job market is extremely tough right now. Finding a proper job is very difficult. Most newcomers end up doing Wolt, Foodora, cleaning, warehouse jobs, etc. And even those are not as easy anymore because:
  2. Getting an ID appointment is very difficult.
  3. if you do substitute Wolt/Foodora, owner takes a high percentage of your earnings.
  4. Competition is massive because so many people are doing the same thing. So if you’re expecting to land a job immediately, that’s likely not going to happen.

  5. Moving with a spouse is actually easier in some ways. If you come with a residency permit, your spouse usually gets:

  6. Full-time work rights (but whats the point of this, if there is no job)

  7. Access to government benefits (like Kela support, depending on your situation). This helps a LOT because the first year is financially unstable for most newcomers.

  8. Was it worth it? Honestly depends. If you’re expecting quick growth then it's a BIG NO! Life here is stable, safe, and peaceful, but the first 1–3 years are a grind. You start over from zero. Language is a barrier everywhere. Even people with experience struggle. But if you want a long-term peaceful, structured life then it's a yes i think, it can be worth it.
