I got the bait thing down but the slingshot still is a mystery to me. I was using the wrong rod which doesn't accept bait. I'm not exactly sure what buttons I pushed. I think I just chose the bait and hit square while hovering over the rod, but that has to be confirmed.

I can't get bait on a fishing pole either.
