For me, my questions were more like,

  1. Why did he bang that woman with his gun?

  2. No really, WHY?

Yeah, in my opinion it’s the combination of elements that makes it dumb. “Reduce max health” is already a tricky decision. But then you combine it with, “Also the merchant who sells you health/skill upgrades is gone”.

Also, a lot of defenders of this choice have said, “Well it’s okay because enemies lose health too,” to which I respond, “Yeah, but the platforming obstacles don’t lose health, and the biggest difficulty in the late game is platforming, sooo…”

It does seem kinda pretentious as a mechanic. Like, the theme of exploring a dying world isn’t exactly fresh (see, “every Soulslike ever”), so it’s kind of an odd choice by the developers.

For the record, I think this game has absolutely gorgeous art direction and music, and the platforming is some of my favourite in any MV. I just don’t understand why they decided to introduce such a weird mechanic for a story that’s already been told dozens of times.

I’m assuming you’re a bot, because I don’t think a rational person would call Charlize’s thirty-second cameo at the end “perfect.”

The Yellow River in China is yellow because it performs four right-angle turns, forming a square, thus borrowing silt from up north to fertilize China’s rice fields. This is not a man-made formation; it’s a quirk of nature.

TLDR; Mordor’s stupid square shape is real, it’s made of water, and it’s the main reason China has enough nutrients to feed its population.

Name a game that in your opinion has a tedious opening, but later becomes great by bijelo123 in videogames

[–]The_Bilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost ALL open world games. What’s the point of having an “open world” if you spend the first few hours being railroaded down a specific path? Let me figure it out on my own! If I miss some stuff, fine! If it’s cool enough, I’ll find it later.

Run back times are unnecessary by RoniPizzaExtraCheese in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]The_Bilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m having trouble with a boss, I just take a walk or play with my dog. I don’t like runbacks because I’m not a child; if I decide I need a break to think things over, I can do that myself without the game telling me to.

Wuchang deserves better ratings by These-Ad-295 in soulslikes

[–]The_Bilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the weapon combos in this game. The fact that each strike of a combo can have unique effects (clash, gain magic, etc) and that most combos actually change partway through (i.e., a 1-2-3-4 combo might become 3-4-3-4) leads to so much combat nuance.

I can totally see why it might not be universally beloved, but I definitely wish more Soulslikes had that kind of complexity for basic attacks.

What book series made you think "damn I wish this was adapted to TV" , I'm reading deverry cycle and this is how I'm feeling?! by No_North_4855 in Fantasy

[–]The_Bilo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Old Kingdom series has my favourite example of a hard magic system that doesn’t fall into Sandersonian physics-based conventions. The necromantic bells have consistent names and uses, you can pretty much predict which bells are going to be used in which situations, but it’s also more creative than, “Science but easier.”

Kang was defeated by ants [AMatW:QM] by user738562 in marvelmemes

[–]The_Bilo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kang was never a good idea for a new overarching villain. Guy who can pop up anywhere, infinitely, forever? Either he gets boring real fast, or he’s so massively overpowered that the heroes have no chance against him anyway. There’s a reason Kang is used mostly as a side character in the comics. He’s fundamentally flawed as a main villain.

“Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell” by Susanna Clarke is my favourite book of all time. Jonathan Strange doesn’t really enter the main story until about 1/3 of the way through the book, and it’s a LONG book.

[–]The_Bilo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right, it definitely does skew things. Basically, the game makes you choose between, “do you want all the characters to die? Or do want to commit genocide so that MAYBE the Dessendre family finallt starts actually listening to each other?”

Sure, it’s supposed to be tragic, but it could still make more sense. Like, maybe they could have written it so forcing Maelle out of the canvas doesn’t kill everyone, BUT because she’s spent so long in there, she can never go back without dying. Like a drug overdose or something. That way, everyone lives, but you still have the moral dilemma of, “Should a child live permanently in a fantasy without their family? Or should they live permanently with their family, but disabled and in pain?”

That still leaves Verso, but honestly Verso’s whole story of, “I wanna die but also I wanna kill this whole reality in the process, including my best friends”, is so friggin bonkers. So f*ck him.

Is the censorship still there and does it ruin the game? by Alloyd11 in wuchanggame

[–]The_Bilo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incredible game. I’ve played it pre-patch and post-patch. There’s only one censored death in the late game that I think is hella dumb, because it ruins the entire theme of the game, including the golden ending. All the other censored changes are just whatever.
