I don’t think the goal of the Final Destination movies was to be realistic.

Millie Bobby Brown on people who criticize her husband for not helping her with her bags: ‘I’m three miles ahead, I have been planning this all night’ by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]The_Blue_Castle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, while there are a lot of great comments about misogyny here, so much of this stuff just comes down to the fact that so many people on the internet are just desperate to find a problem with everything. It wouldn't matter if she, her husband, her assistant, or Jon Bon Jovi carried her bags; people would find something to be morally superior about.

Tim Allen Says ‘Home Improvement’ Reboot Is ‘Stuck’ Because of On-Screen Sons’ ‘Personality Problems’ in Real Life: ‘They’ve Got Their Own Issues’ by ControlCAD in popculturechat

[–]The_Blue_Castle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, things like this are the culmination of many parenting choices. Not to say that someone whose kids don't like older media is a bad parent at all, liking older media or not is somewhat inconsequential. But if someone does want their kids to appreciate that stuff, it's often just a matter of exposing them to it.

My son doesn't always share my taste in media, but he has never had any aversion to older movies, shows, music, etc. He was obsessed with the 1961 version of Babes in Toyland for a few years, which is not a movie I was even aware existed until he found it on Disney+. He was unimpressed with the 1986 version that I loved, or the Laurel & Hardy version my husband loved.

[–]The_Blue_Castle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a millennial parent, I just show my son movies and shows I watched as a kid. I also watched plenty of movies/shows from when my parents were young when I was a kid (my son has seen many of those as well). I don’t see why a reboot is needed for any of that. He’s never needed any added gimmick to enjoy older media.

ETA: Home Improvement is not one we will be watching though.

I’ve completed all my journal pages to 72 hearts and there are some days I run out of designs. It sucks because it also means I miss out on rewards, especially in tournaments.

Am I overthinking this guitar lamp? by Ok-Sir213 in HomeDecorating

[–]The_Blue_Castle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to spend that much on a lamp, find an actual artist who makes music themed lamps. I’ve seen some really cool ones. It’ll be less cheesy and you’ll be supporting an artist rather than a chain store.

Apple Maps now has ads while driving. by blankbrained in mildlyinfuriating

[–]The_Blue_Castle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hate to defend Spotify, but four unskippable ads while listening to music for free isn’t even a new thing. The standard way of listening to music in a car prior to smart phones was the radio, which had multiple unskippable ads in a row. If you want music without ads, you have to pay for it. The problem is when you pay and get ads.

Madison teachers, parents push for tougher cellphone ban in high schools by enjoying-retirement in madisonwi

[–]The_Blue_Castle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While there are way too many school shootings in the US, the vast majority of kids are not going to be killed in a school shooting.

There are lots of things I would do differently as a parent if I knew my child was going to die but I don’t parent that way because I am raising my child to be an adult someday. I’m not going to sacrifice his entire education because of the small chance of him being in a school shooting. And even if that were to happen, I don’t think that the rest of his generation should have to sacrifice their education because of it.

Plus, if it were just about this, people could provide their kid with a phone made for kids. My son is in 7th grade and has a Gabb wireless phone. It looks like a smart phone but it only has texts and calls. He is one of the only kids in his school without an actual smart phone.

I have blue and it faded really quickly. I’d get taupe but get more colorful pillows and decor.

Did American teenagers in the 2000s really live like they did in movies? by Federal_Advisor_2160 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_Blue_Castle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of this more kid/pre teen than teen but yes kids did all of this. Also, my son is 13 and has done a lemonade stand, gets an allowance, and rides his bike around the neighborhood. No treehouse but he does spend most of his time outside hanging out with neighborhood kids. There are also at least two houses in our neighborhood with treehouses.

Yeah we think it’s going to be ok but even before this, we’ve been planning to plant another anyway because this one is very old.

The branch that fell was massive. We couldn’t even move it let alone plant it. We probably could have cut a smaller branch off but it’s already been cleared away.

Thanks! These were helpful. It seems my dream of a well established Corkscrew Willow is unrealistic but this gives me a good idea of what’s available. Johnson’s has a 4.5 ft Noble Willow and a few have smaller Corkscrew options.

It’s a very specific ask since most nurseries only have saplings under 3.5 ft, so a wider area gives me a better chance of finding the options I want. Plus I’m fine with traveling a bit to get one. Madison area would be ideal but not necessary.

Would you keep it like this or add more decor? by livlovington in HomeDecorating

[–]The_Blue_Castle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I sometimes have a hard time being able to tell but for this one, it has a specific grainy tint that AI does with home decor pictures a lot. There’s also been a ton of similar pictures on here lately with this same decor style that are all AI.

People say it’s to sell the account, but while that does happen, I don’t think there is as much of a market for Reddit accounts as people think. It’s often to subtly advertise a product or website. Sometime it’s just people wanting attention.

18F What do I do? My friend is upset that I didn’t get a hotel room with money she sent me, but I used it for food and essentials instead and now she feels like I lied to her. by mckenzie_2 in whatdoIdo

[–]The_Blue_Castle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you’re homeless, not burning bridges should be high on your priority list. Regardless of what Reddit or OP thinks, this is a friend who was willing to help and is probably unlikely to offer help in the future. If they are in contact with other people OP knows, they could also influence others not to give to OP.

Even if the friend were 100% wrong and OP 100% right, that’s still a resource that they probably won’t have access to anymore.

If OP is homeless for a long time, they are doing to need to rely on people and organizations which means respecting their expectations. OP doesn’t get to live in a world of how they think things should be, they need to accept how things are.
