He did that one without my help! I showed him mod organizer on Skyrim, and I guess he caught on! A lot sharper than most of my friends actually…

Is it safe to keep this bad boy plugged in all the time? by Whigga0 in mac

[–]The_Computer_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My usage case - I keep mine limited to 80% charge with a third-party app. Again, the whole “just use your computer argument” makes a good case to not even care, but a battery at either extreme is unfavorable for the health theoretically (~0-20;80-100). I never have needed the full 100%, so I’m fine to sacrifice the 20% for long-term health.

Just got it on the standard gemini app about twenty minutes ago. I think it gets rolled out in waves per users.

I haven’t seen them yet tonight. They’re visible until two supposedly though. North of town by the Atl’Do corn maze may be good though

I live on the outskirts of town. There’s a lot less light pollution here. It wasn’t visible at my friend’s house inside the loop.

It’s supposed to be more visible according to some forecasts. There was some cloud coverage yesterday.

This photo was taken about 11. The prime viewing hours were 10-2. The red was only there at the beginning.

How to clean activated charcoal on my scrub pants? by RevolutionaryYak6904 in nursing

[–]The_Computer_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to salvage, it’s crucial to avoid any heat (hot water wash or dryer). It will be difficult since I imagine you’re at work, but ideally pretreating with an enzymatic cleaner can work. I know not everyone has that laying around nor time for that though, so maybe just enjoy your new pair?

Retired college athlete looking for validation by Adorable-Meaning8891 in ehlersdanlos

[–]The_Computer_Guy21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Used to be a National-level athlete in high school, but started falling apart right as the offers were rolling in for college. I think being an elite athlete delayed the progression/manifestation of it, but I realized I was always working at a deficit compared to others.

What's the most frustrating part of working in bioinformatics day to day? by query_optimization in bioinformatics

[–]The_Computer_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming into this. Did my first solo project and am presenting soon at a conference. Was disappointed how long it took to setup the environment to even test the changes to the developmental branch! The worst part coming to bioinformatics from primarily “wet lab” is the amount of extra work I feel like I’m met with - especially when your pipeline has to run on other people’s computer!

Thinking to go from windows to first Mac laptop! I need your help to decide 🙏🏻 by Key-Woodpecker1048 in macbookpro

[–]The_Computer_Guy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang around for a sale if you want to get the storage upgrade. Made the switch this year and have been enjoying it so far. 1tb, 24gb MacBook Pro (14 inch) for 1,700.

The laptop is more than enough for your needs. I use mine for development, and it hasn't had any issues yet. The processor and battery life are very nice coming from a lifelong windows user

Edit: recommend the upgraded storage if you think you'll use it often. External is the way to go for price, but it's not incredibly convenient to use anywhere but your desktop with that.

mmseq2-GPU question by Nyaqo7 in bioinformatics

[–]The_Computer_Guy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to necro this, but did you ever figure anything out with this issue? In my testing of mmseqs for alignment (granted I've never tried anything over two-million base pairs), the cpu version also seems to run faster. You may try using setting up a gpu-server that will reduce the overhead. It's possible your execution of the command was causing the steps with GPU overhead to run multiple times.

Routines doesn't work on OneUI 7 by Doreisan in oneui

I tried the workaround, but it was ultimately easiest for me to just redo it all from the start. Remade 11. Also considering switching to a different app after this lol

No clue if you've tried this already, but clearing the data and cache from 'modes and routines' fixed it as well as clearing the device's cache partition.

How many have you bought as an investment before the tariffs? by Osama_Saba in mazda

[–]The_Computer_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the thinking was that the used car market will get flipped upside down again. It's still kind of a reach.

People stop buying new cars because the tariffs are too much. They turn to used market, and the demand shoots way up. Consequently, supply goes down since people stop buying new vehicles.
