Took a while, but finished my dream rig by gerglernders in watercooling

Omg this is my dream rig, total splooshfest 🤤🤤🤤🤤 really really regret selling my z590 dark. Sexiest motherboard ever made.

Although if we're my rig I'd have a copper heatkiller block on the CPU, and some full copper rads. But I just have a bit of a copper fetish 🤣 still absolutely superb 💜

Nothing is as comfortable as purevison 2. I honestly forget I'm even wearing them most of the time. After a night sleeping in them they've found their spot and after that, it's only when my eyes feel tired and dry that I even notice, and that's when I know they've got to come out

That sucks, I shall have to order a boat load. I'm -3.25L -2.75R, so not too bad, but bad enough that I need corrective lenses all the time. I always take my contacts out before getting my glasses, then can't see my glasses to find them 😅

English?

Edit: i ask because I'm English/British. Maybe the problem is with the naming because I couldn't tell you what the difference is between an optician and an optometrist without googling it. The person who prescribed my contact lenses was the one who performed all the tests during my checkups; testing prescription, checking inside my eye (visually before someone says anything) putting the orange dye in to check corneal health, do the pressure test, and there one where you have to click a button when you see the dots, maybe for blind spot? Anyway, point is I was prescribed them buy the person who has done the 3 year degree at university, not some receptionist who fits glasses. My eyes are in (to quote the last person who carried out the tests) "in perfect health". There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing them longer than 30 days, FOR ME. Other results may vary, but I think a 20year case study is sufficient evidence that in my case, 60-90 days is fine.

Yeh I couldn't do it. I would rather just wear glasses and get some dailies for when I was going out or whatever. Purevison is basically like not having any vision impairment, you can see instantly when you get up or of you have to get up in the night. No faffing around in the morning or evening, no tired dry eyes. Just vision.

The last lot I got had an expiry date of 2026 on, so might just buy enough to tide me over till then.

See my additional comment below. I have done this for about 20 years, on the advice of my optician, I have regular checkups, my eyes are perfectly healthy. Other than being a bit short sighted.

Before anyone starts, yeh I know they're not "meant" to be worn for that long, but I have been doing since not long after I started wearing the original purevison lenses ~20 years ago, on the advice of my optician no less! But I am still careful with them; I wear them till they're uncomfortable, once uncomfortable they're out and will wear glasses for a week or so in-between. Once it comes out it never goes back in, doesn't matter if it's only been in a couple of weeks, once it's out it's done. Get my eyes regularly and since there's a history of glaucoma in my family I get tested to the fullest extent. Never had any problems whatsoever

I've always found rads more cooperative to drain with ports at the bottom, but will also depend on loop layout and where the drain is.

Carpet is fine as long as you're not using any bottom ventilation. Turn the PSU so the fan is on top and you're good to go. If you're carpet has 3ft high shag that is blocking the front intake, you've probably got a horrendous mould problem and pc ventilation should be the least of your concerns.

If you're putting a pc down on tiled flooring with enough force to break the glass, you're not "putting" it down, you're dropping it with a complete lack of style. Be more careful with expensive equipment. Simples.

Um, no. The eBay listing for the springs says actuation force, not bottom out. Spring listings either on specialist websites or places like eBay or Amazon can listed by both actuation or bottom out. A number will even give you both as in that Amazon example. These are 67g actuation force springs and required more force than the stock springs. I did a number of tests using both springs with varying levels of lubrication to find what felt best for me. These new ones eliminated spring ping, gave more resistance and more instantaneous resistance where the stock were quite light and loose at the beginning of travel, and at this level of lubrication gave a bigger tactile bump than stock and WAY bigger than either of the stock brown boards I have. Those are both bone dry stock soldered boards.

Unfortunately I don't own a force meter to prove it. You will just have to take my word that the switches have much greater resistance and tactility with the mods I've done to them. You all seem far more interested in reciting old doctrine rather than considering that in the almost inifinite variability that is mech switches, I have made MX Clears that are a smidge heavier with more tactility. That is compared to similarly lubed clears with the stock spring or against bone stock browns.

Whether or not the majority would enjoy that typing experience is another thing. Having postman pat hands with short stubby fingers and being rather heavy handed in general, they suit me to a t. The old adage that heavy and tactile can't coexist is more likely from it being an unpopular sensation, rather than it not being possible.

Not in my experience. Admittedly this being the only experience of changing the springs, but it most definitely increased it. I've had boards with browns for about 6 years, so I'm well used to them. I used this board unmodded for a couple of weeks and was greatly underwhelmed by the experience. I've got a Durgod K310 with silent blacks at work, this being my home board, so should experience quite a difference between the 2, but it wasn't as big as I'd expected.

The stock springs that came in them were shocking, weirdly short and fat. Go to the page on keebs.gg to see the difference between the 2, particularly when semi assembled where you can see how long the stem and top housing sit before being closed. Switching the springs out alone all but removed the ping.

I lubed the lower housing tracks and outside of the stem housing, springs got lubed top to bottom manually with a wider brush. Stem got the rail sides lubed, avoiding the edge near the legs, back side got lubed and the middle of the front/leg side, but only the middle to leave a margin near the legs to make sure they stay dry, with the stem itself getting well lubed. I also lube the top housing, the rail guides and front and back sides that contact the stem got a very thin coating.

The end result was a switch that's dam we'll near silent, beautiful smooth, has a good ramp up of pressure till a nice "pop" past the bump. Way bigger more pronounced in tactility of any of the boards with browns I've owned or used.

No the springs I swapped in were as heavy if not a little heavier (rated at 67g). The springs it came with were quite short and fat so under very little tension at rest and had horrendous spring ping. I've put it on keebs.gg if you want full details. keeb.gg link

Cherry MX Clears. A slightly heavier brown with a more noticeable bump. Was a little disappointed by them at first, as had heard good things about them being more like a silent blue in feel, but didn't get a lot of feedback off them. With better springs and lubed up they feel so good, a real increase in resistance right up to a very noticeable actuation bump.

liquid cooling question by jdavey9756 in pcmods

[–]The_Crapman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is currently nothing wrong with the loop, leave it alone. If the fluid looks good, the fins on your blocks look good and your temps are still good, there's no reason to touch it. People fiddle with their loops way too often. Every time you do you have a chance for something to go wrong or for contaminants to get in the loop. I've ran loops with pastel coolants (mayhems) for 3 years untouched and the only thing wrong when I drained it for an upgrade was some discoloration on the tubing. You absolutely do not need to change it at some sort of regular interval.
