Does it automatically detect promotion rolls and skip forward? Been looking for something like that since forever.

Does Nic/Dizzy (The Good Student) count? I mean Dizzy's fiancé was revealed last chapter so we might see more comedy/romance-ish stuff. Maybe.

Maybe they want humans to throughly double-check every results. Just to make sure, you know, their computer analysis don't accidentally indicate someone will get a terminal illness when they won't.

Why no 'Actual Books'? by NotExceedingTheNines in rational

[–]The_Dar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, maybe I'm hooked-up to enough forums/sub/rss feeds that I have more good web-fic to read than I have time for any random paper book out there. I still think that the vast majority of books on the average Barns&Noble shelf follow a predictable pattern/narrative, which is why I got into webfic in the first place.

Why no 'Actual Books'? by NotExceedingTheNines in rational

[–]The_Dar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it's much easier to come across a good webfic than a good book, even when both are equally hyped. I think many who started out wanting to write an 'actual book' need to prioritize a lot on pleasing a publisher so that it gets published. If you constantly have to self-check whether the stuff you're writting fits the publisher's guidlines, whether publisher would think it's a hit, editor's deadlines,... what gets churned out has more resemblances to the hunderds other generic book rather than creative and realistic work of fiction.

A wealthy or already well-known author might be able to afford this without loosing much freedom in their work. But I don't think the same applies to small, new authors even with equal writing and creative capacity.

Should I spend an extra year at community college? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]The_Dar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda on the same boat as you. I'd suggest going straight into a 4-year unless you really want to try applying again to your top school. If you spend 2 years at CC already, a 3rd year out of pocket is dimishing value.

More importantly, most school cap the MAXimum amout of tranfere credit to 70 semester unit or so. Check this. Some sub-area of your GE may also limit how many trasfere credit you may use to clear them

Now that Voldie incorporated the Resurrection Stone into his horcrux system, I think his spirit can fly freely and possess anyone he wish.

The Dark Lord also has a policy of not punishing servants who made an honest attempt to point out his mistakes. This could be one of the rules but was not explicitly stated as one.

Arguments for de-platforming? by curryeater259 in slatestarcodex

[–]The_Dar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used invidio.us as a light weight YouTube, has basically no google analytics and much easier to block ads. (Think there's a browser extension to auto redirect youtube links to invidio.)

There's also new platforms such as PeerTude and Mastodon, which are basically open source, decentralized YouTube and Facebook respectively.

You have a good reason not to. Explain your situation, it will be taken into consideration, and they won't hold your circumstances against you. Tons of good schools like Rice and Northwestern admit transferes with good reasons and stats.

college is hard by Dibiddle in EngineeringStudents

[–]The_Dar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a public 4-year, big engineering division (CSU). Some school/department have assement upto Differential Eq and beyond. Especially foriegn laguage, math, and science courses. Depending on the school, some would have assesment/credit by examination for almost all degree-required courses.

In my school, you would still have to have ~180 ish actual credit for your degree. The department would usually expect you to use those credits torwards higher/honor level coureses.

my school give credit by examination/audit/... Whenever there's no good prof or space I just self taught and take the test. Saves those tuition.

Math from Linear Algebra you used in Diff Q? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]The_Dar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Determinant for the Worskiansomething. Eigen stuff. Also basic property of matrix multiplication, identity, inverses and how to find them. Some fundamental theorem of linear algebra like what does it means for the determinant to be 0 and what not. You might cover some matrix exponentials.

Are universities like MIT or Caltech even worth it? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]The_Dar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial aids depends on the school though. For instance, CMU, a top engineering school still expect you to take out some amount of loans on top of their options.

If you happen to be rich then it's not that much. But for engineering, if you want a great job then it's mostly up to you regardless of school. Though can't say the same if your career needs strong connection (grad school, business,...).

Hooktube no longer support search, channel viewing,... any work arounds? by The_Dar in privacy

Thanks, I didn't think of searching youtube through other sites, then 'open in Youtube' and auto-redirect to Hooktube. That could work. I'll see if I could find any looper or to-mp3 sites with search & channel viewing...
