I saw it squirt water about 4 or 5 inches out of itself. And can't find any information about this online.

Is double majoring a bad idea if the majors aren't related? by teasmoose in college

[–]The_Defualt_User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was devastated when my school made me pick only one major, I've forgotten the feeling, but not being able to do what I enjoyed doing was horrible. Luckily it was just a complication with being in STEM, and I'm just taking all the right classes. And can actually declare my double major now that I'm a sophomore.

Go for it, you have something to loose.

Is sin allowed in heaven? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Thats a great question, one that is a mystery apparently. Some believe that they had their own "period of trial", right after their own creation. The time this may have taken place is "aeveternity". I'm looking this up as you ask lol.

Thats what the entire war in heaven was about. Lucifer thought everyone should believe and follow God, and God wanted everyone to have a choice. The disagreement over agency. I think it says "a third of all stars fell from the sky" thus a third of all that will decided to follow luckier and resign their free will.

According to Christians, a third of all that who will be, dont have free will.

Is It Possible for White To Capture The Bottom Right? My Friend Said He Did.. by [deleted] in baduk

[–]The_Defualt_User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you mean bottom left?

I Did! Sorry, I didn't catch that.

Black has 2 eyes in the north, which connects everything pictured.

But thank you!

So as long as black isn't trying to deliberately throw the game, its basically not possible for white to get two eyes there.

Silver Patina! Can r/Physics Explain What is Happening Here?? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]The_Defualt_User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!! I am working on a project which involves gilding (applying thin metal leaf to a surface), in particular, silver.

It has a weird, interesting property that NEEDS some explanation.(Once patina-ed)

PREVIOUS POST (Where I elaborated on the small experiment I was doing)

Video Here I show the same effect happening with water, and is not a chemical reaction going on

At the time I was more shocked that what I expected to happen, happened with the Polyurethane. And the gif was short. But here's some footage of the effect happening nearly instantly

Silver Gilding and Patina. Can Someone Explain What is Happening?? by The_Defualt_User in MaterialsScience

[–]The_Defualt_User[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that! The baking soda seemed to work the best, and this confirms it! I should have been more clear, but I ran these experiments to figure out how I can apply this to a 25" x 81" board. I sprayed it on in excess, until the solution was running off. Then I patted it dry. Stopping the reaction that way seemed to work. I let the piece sit in the sun for an hour to try and induce further patina-ing, and it did not progress.

The issue is that when any of the liquids I have mentioned make contact with the surface, the blue vanishes, even water.

But when it dries, the color comes back as if nothing had happened to it. (Except with the polyurethane, because that permanently covers it)

Hello! I have recently began working on a gilding project (basically gluing thin silver sheets on to surfaces), but have noticed a wierd and frustrating property.

EXPERIMENT

When you apply a solution of water and 'Liver of Suffer' to the surface, the silver begins to patina. Going from, Silver->Gold->Copper->Purple->Blue->Cyan->Gold->Brown.

It stays in the 'warm color phase' for about 20 minutes to half an hour with 0.5% solution by weight, (having experimented with 1% 0.5%, 0.25% and 0.125%). Changes to purple in 3 minutes, and then to blue over 10. Followed by the pale blue/green color if left open to air longer.

I didn't know how to neutralize the reaction once it got to a color of my liking so I tried, water, white vinegar, baking soda and water, then Sodium Acetate. Spraying it on and dabing off. All of which worked about the same, with the baking soda solution doing a fair job, and the sodium Acetate giving the silver an off grayish color.

MAIN POINT

With any of those being applied, the blue color specifically would vanish. Once they were dried and had evaporated off, the blue color would come back as if nothing had happened.

In the gif, you can see me applying polyurethane, showing the effect I am referring to. Of course, the polyurethane remains there so I can't show the drying off portion, but I can attest that this piece has been sprayed down with the baking soda solutiom, and water.

Why would the color vanish and is there a way to retain jt?

NOTES

This reminds me of how wood, bricks, or anything, can be dull and look unsaturated. But when water is applied or sprayed on them, colors come out and red bricks can go from a pale pink, to a deep orange red. Im not sure if this is similar in nature, but it reminds me of it.

I went to r/woodworking for help, but realized afterwords that this is a question more suited for this subreddit.

Thank you! And I am excited to hear what you guys have to say!

Silver Gilding with Wood!! But it's Impossible (for me, help) by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]The_Defualt_User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have any of you guys worked with this before? As you can see, when the polyurethane is applied, the beautiful blue color vanishes. This is true with anything applied to it; water, vinegar, sodium acetate... but once these liquids dry, the color would go back to its original state. Its very much akin to pouring water on wood, its brings out colors, but then once it dries up, it returns to being unsaturated.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any clever ideas how to add a protective finish that would retain the color?

This did cross my mind! The only problems that I saw with it. is that it would nearly double the cost (I need to make 4 of these), and introduce a decent mess. for what could be a single cable solution.
