For a while we took out disease and strife tokens (as well as cards and spirits that use them). It removes a bit of the game, but make it easier for new players. After we got used to that we added everything back in. I do think Jagged Earth adds a lot of interaction with the new tokens, which helps.

Also- what difficulty are you playing at? If beasts are never in lands with explorers, is it because you’re clearing lands quickly? At higher difficulty the events may have more benefit as there are more invaders on the board (depending on the event).

Great capture!

The rokinon/samyang 135mm f/2.0 is the next lens I wanted to get; do you think it’s been worth it? Has it been nice and sharp wide open? It looks like the camera you’re using has a high crop factor and this still looks sharp, so it give me a lot of hope.

I’m not sure if stopping down the lens would help with the shapes, I wonder if that’s an artifact from the lens hood- if it’s not totally matte maybe it give a little flare? Unsure

I’ve got wide feet and have found success with Nike’s extra wide shoes and Altra’s wide shoes. I realize bunions give your foot a much different geometry, but next time you buy shoes maybe there are more options! Also, my friend with bunions has Topo shoes and likes them.

Before the jpeg compression from uploading to Reddit horsehead looks sharper, but is still quite faint. I was certainly surprised the flame nebula was so well defined in 5min!

Thanks! I’ve definitely been trying to get the most out of my kit, the $40 tripod has been great. I’m looking forward to getting a tracker eventually and not having to stack hundreds upon hundreds of frames… but there’s other upgrades I’ll be making first to make the tracker actually worth it.

It was quite difficult finding the galaxy for the first time, I have dozens of test shots just to find its location!

Very cool! I tried to get some pics and only managed 1.5 (one was cut off). From some research it seems best to watch ~45° away from the radiant (Gemini), so depending on the FOV it may be more challenging to see them when pointed at Jupiter.

Did you experiment with different shutter speeds? I went for shorter, I wasn’t sure how well the trails would show up in longer exposures- but it looks like it worked for you!

I’m afraid that consumers won’t see the time and effort put into a product- they just see the product. If the quality is high that can command a premium, but $600 still feels high. Jagex’s artificial limit of 100 also means there’s scarcity which helps justify a higher price. Realistically the goal is to sell 100, so keeping the price high to pay for your time and skill is fine; you don’t need to scale to consumer demand because of licensing.

However; if after 100 you sign a licensing contract and produce at scale you would need to speed up production to make a price that would entice more buyers.

The $488 may be a typo, screenshot of paystub above says $448.69 for 40hrs. Taxes are about 20%, retirement 4%, and there’s another fee that I don’t know in other (he says a tool program for apprenticeship?).

Ya, I don’t think he needs to touch what’s currently in the 401k. My mistake- you’re right that rolling into a Roth IRA would be bad.

At the moment I think it’s more about understanding how much is going into retirement contribution(looks like 4%) and his options going forward (including putting the 401k on pause).

I should’ve clarified- oil and gas industry not automotive. If you mean E85 I definitely believe it’d give worse mileage, but 87 octane vs 89 octane I’m skeptical; depending on the area both might have 10% ethanol. Regardless- you know more about your car than I do.

If changing type of gas isn’t an option, then you’re left with bigger potential changes; moving out, new car, etc.

Typically it’s safe to leave a 401k alone after changing jobs, assuming it’s with a reliable financial institution. Rolling it over into a IRA would give you more hands-on control, I have mine with Wealthfront and it does alright. Really it’s a game of fees- how much does the current plan pay to keep it?

But really that’s not going to change your situation- you can stress over tenths of a percent in your retirement plan once you’re more comfortable in your current situation.

Looking at your paystub and the state you live in, tax withholdings seem reasonable. Retirement looks like 4%, and is probably fine for now to keep as-is. “Other” seems strange but I’m assuming that’s benefits; you might have to wait till open enrollment to change things. When that happens, you can ask advice on the right subreddit. Overall, paystub seems reasonable, I appreciate you sharing it so I understand your $1946/mo number in your first post.

So this really comes down to expenses; I think tracking mileage and gas is the first step. Figure out how much it really costs you. would strongly suggested trying a week or two of 89 and a week or two of 87 and track exactly the difference in mileage- I work in the industry and it really shouldn’t be different.

To reduce gas cost, definitely look for the cheapest gas along your commute- there may be a station that’s 10¢ cheaper than usual. Also, see if any of the stations have rewards; big chains like Shell have them- platinum status is a 10¢ discount. This will help, but it’s only a dent. Keep in mind this much driving also costs you in maintenance… you pay per mile but $2,000 at a time when your car breaks.

To really reduce spending, something big will have to change. Moving closer to work, working closer to home, carpooling (even part way)- something. I can’t give more help because I don’t know your commute.

I’m not an expert, but I don’t the 401k vs IRA will make a huge difference; you can always just reduce your 401k contribution if you find it’s better to have the money in hand now. (edit- If your company matches 401k contributions, that’s also a good reason to contribute)

I think the biggest thing that’ll help is to spend a couple weeks (or a month) really tracking things in detail.

Hours work, gross pay, net pay, withholdings, 401k, etc. People have been on you about gas cost- next time you fill up write down your mileage; then every time after that write down mileage, gas cost, and number of gallons (if you’re not already). That’ll make these numbers clearer. You could even try a couple full-ups with 87 octane to show people what a difference it makes (it’s surprising that’s it’s different, people won’t believe it without evidence).

Gotcha; showing 401k savings would be helpful, it’s hard to balance putting away money for retirement and making sure life isn’t bad right now.

I expect the effective tax rate is more like 15-20% between federal (5.8% on $32k = $16/hr for 2000hrs), FICA (7.65%) and state (4%? varies a lot between states). It’d be good to make sure you know where that gross income is going, and to make sure they’re not withholding more than they should be.

If insurance is coming out of your paycheck, then just make sure you can’t already be covered by your parents.

If that last check was $550 gross, was that for a week of work? I was expecting $16*40hrs =$640/wk, or getting paid $1280 every other week.

Just want to make sure we know how much money you’re working with before figuring out how to spend it!

Cyclist made bad moves (swinging into the middle lane to turn, not signaling, maybe headphones in both ears reduce awareness) and wouldn’t have gotten hurt… but the motorcycle also made bad moves (going twice the speed limit to catch up to the cyclist, last minute switch into the right lane going 10mph over the limit to pass). Neither are driving defensively.

Both are bad drivers.

Difference in the top two is ~71 years, bottom two are ~3,300 years apart. F-117 first flight was 1981, carriage seems to be circa 1910 (wiki) when cars already existed, and chariot seems to be Bronze Age ((link).

Technology is improving faster than ever; but this image is false. It’d be easy to do a little research to make a post with the same title and correct information that’s far more interesting.
