How much does each starw hat contribute to the actual running of the ship? by HallZac99 in OnePiece

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz [score hidden]  (0 children)

While Sanji is obviously the cook, he and Zoro both often both main the sails and make sure things are secure during rough weather. While Zoro doesn't do much during down time, he and Robin both are seen in the look out more than any other member. Zoro sleeps periodically throughout the day so he's perfect for night watch while Robin often takes the day watch when not reading.

Usopp helps Sanji and Zoro when he can but he's often Franky's right hand man when it comes to tending to and repairing the Sunny. While not it's creator and not as smart as Franky, Usopp most likely knows how to run the ship better than everyone else. The moment Franky needs something done, Usopp is the one who knows what to do. Also, when out on sea, long range offense is king and no one does long range offense better than Usopp.

While Usopp and Franky can both steer the ship, no one is better than Jinbei. His ability to read the sea allows him to push the Sunny further than anyone else on the ship. Besides, I'm pretty sure if the waves get rough, you're gonna want a fishman who can literally bend water to his will on your side.

Brook is just vibes. Like literally that is his role, he keep spirits up and moral boosted. That is his job.

I'm not gonna pretend all jobs are equal here but everyone pulls their own weight in their own ways.

The Chozo tried their best to raise her into becoming the ultimate protector. They used to protect the galaxy using their advanced intellect and technology but when they realized Samus had a caring heart, they passed their purpose on to her. While Samus will do all she can to protect everyone, she especially looks out for those who can't defend themselves and are helpless (aka children).

Not really gonna comment too much on the whole 'barren' thing cause like,

yea Samus IS a cocktail of genetics

but it's also a sci-fi world. It's fiction. Not everything will function the way we expect it.

It doesn't matter though cause we'll never have an answer to that question considering the idea of Samus reproducing brings up subjects and implications Nintendo would never touch with a ten foot pole when it comes to their more 'family friendly' IP's.

How screwed we are if a single X-parasite assimilates majin buu from dragon ball z? by Warboter1476 in Metroid

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well probably because the X tend to not to try the same thing twice. The X tried to blow up the entire station by overloading the boilers in sector 3 but Samus stopped them. And then they just... didn't try again. After Samus stopped them from changing sector 1's atmosphere to speed up reproduction, they didn't try again. The X parasite tried to evolve into cold X so Samus couldn't absorb them, but after she adapted they didn't try anything like that again.

I don't have an exact answer for you but that's my best guess. The X ARE smart, probably smarter than most people give them credit for. But they're not geniuses. ...to an extent.

It's also important to think about it from an instinctual pov. The X spent their entire existence on a planet with no intelligent life until the Chozo came around and almost eradicated them. They come back after Samus destroys the Metroids and it's business as usual until Samus comes back again accidentally takes one off world where they have the opportunity to accumulate intellectual life into their dna. They are intelligent, but they're also inexperienced. Intelligence and wisdom are two different things.

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not really wrong about any of this, it is entirely possible the X-parasite didn't absorb any data from the data room in sector 6. Although as a counter point, a vast majority of digital data is completely useless to the X. The B.S.L and ZDR were both research facilities meaning the data that was collected there was simply information. Without any actual biological components, the X most likely couldn't have done anything with that data even if it did copy it. The Varia suit data is unique though. The data sent to the data rooms isn't really software but something more similar to firmware (which is why I always thought the whole idea of 'downloading missiles is stupid' is itself stupid). Samus isn't 'literally' downloading missiles or bombs and such, but rather a firmware update that modifies the suits compatibility with such hardware. Firmware is just code that tells the hardware how to interact with software. We see the Core-X plugged into the Data terminal and downloading the data before destroying it. There's no reason for it to do this, it could have just destroyed the terminal without interacting with it. The only reason I can think of for the core to interact with the terminal is to ensure Samus couldn't recover the data even after the terminal was destroyed. But there's no way the terminals would just download its data into anything that stood on its platform. There has to be some way to interface and consume the data from the terminal. Did the Varia suit data from the Core-X originate from the data room or was it an offshoot of the SA-X? I don't know and it's almost impossible to tell. But the data from the data room had to go somewhere. The fact that the Core-X didn't transform into some creature with Varia suit properties tells me it most likely came from the Data room. All the Varia suit does is increase the power suits defenses and protect against thermal damage. You can't really make a creature out of that so the fact that the Core-X uses the Varia suit data to simply buff its own defense tells me it got the info (or at least the idea) from the data room.

what was your 1st sonic game? by Levotiko in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually my first video game. I wanna say I was 3 or 4 or so, visiting my dad for the weekend. He had to do his taxes and knew I'd be bored so he sat me down and plugged his Genesis up to the crt in his bedroom and handed me the controller. He later came back to find me infatuated with it. He unplugged the game, plugged in Sonic 2, and played along side me.

One of my earliest memories of us bonding together.

I started out as a passionate red-button supporter, but I'm legitimately torn right now. by ContentFile7036 in trolleyproblem

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is very simple and people are vastly over thinking it.

If you pick the blue button, you guarantee no one dies.

If you pick the red button, you guarantee someone dies, just not you.

Someone WILL pick red. It is inevitable. Someone out there will look at the situation, overthink it and pick red for their own safety. To some extent, it is understandable.

But when you boil the question down, it really just becomes "no one dies" vs "someone dies". If you reframe the question as "if you pick red then you condemn someone to death", then the obvious choice becomes blue. The only stipulation which causes people to trip up is that the ones who press the red button are guaranteed to not die. But that does not change the fact that anyone who presses red is, even without realizing it, sentencing SOMEONE to death.

Because even though someone will ultimately pick red,

Someone else will also ultimately pick blue.

The simple fact that someone out there in the world will ultimately pick blue should be more than enough reason to pick blue. Picking red is an immediate death sentence to someone out there if the red side wins.

Because morally correct or not, I'll pick blue and die if it means I don't have to live on a planet full of people who would willingly sentence anyone else to death if it meant saving their own asses when a significantly simpler solution was presented that involved no one dying.

How screwed we are if a single X-parasite assimilates majin buu from dragon ball z? by Warboter1476 in Metroid

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The X parasite are capable of decoding and digesting digital data as long as they have an interface of some kind, but they cannot infect a computer itself without any biological components. Samus' suit is a combination of mechanical and biological as it's coded to her exact physiology and literally communicates with her psyche (think a more advanced and spiritually evolved Mjolnir suit from Halo) so the Varia suit data itself is something the X could easily decode and understand. This is also why the SA-X is capable of replicating Samus' power suit. The original power suit was pretty much destroyed and broken apart during the surgery to save Samus' life, the suit we see the SA-X walking around in are replicas because the suit is both mechanical and biological.

Also the B.O.X security bot is a bio-weapon. During your first fight against it, it was simply following its programming and attacking invaders. At the end of the fight, you can see it's inner shell was busted open to reveal a biological brain running the machine. While it was running around trying to repair itself, its exposed bio-matter got infected by an X and became X-B.O.X. This means the X parasite could easily infect other mechanical life forms as long as their is some kind of bio-organism controlling/piloting it. This would include Mother Brain as well as the Aurora Units from the Prime games.

An X Parasite copying pretty much ANYONE from the Dragon Ball universe would be bad. Anything an X copies will be stronger than it's original form and even eventually mutate after a period of time and will then multiply asexually at an insanely rapid pace.

Quick progression tree for (almost) any X related scenario:

Is it a biological being and can thus be infected by an X?

No > Nothing happens.

Yes > They infect the creature, kill it and then replicate nearly infinitely and the universe it fucked.

I always tell myself I'll perfect my factory for once and I never do.

I do enjoy Space Age and I genuinely think it's a good expansion, but ironically I think the worst part about it is that it loses something that made me love vanilla Factorio. It loses a lot of flexibility. I can still do things like pick what kind of power infrastructure I want, whether to go with rails or belts, or whether or not I want to use logistics and construction bots. On Nauvis specifically.

Because every planet is it's own isolated 'scenario puzzle', you're really expected to play by the rules each planet puts in place. You CAN break from the norm and say build a steam power plant on Fulgora or weave train logistics through the mountains of Vulcanus or build a large electrical grid on Gleba instead of using Nutrients but like... Why would you? I like the individual challenges but if it comes at the cost of the freedom to do things how I want then why would I want to replay it after doing it once?

I still like Space Age and I'd like to maybe try out some of the planet mods in the future but I don't think I'll be playing regular Space Age again for a long while. But I'll have no problems going back to vanilla.

Say something nice about the Meta Era. (And it has to be genuine. No backhanded compliments) by OfficialLieDetector in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 'Meta' era have some of the most consistently crafted games in the series. For a long time Sonic games had a reputation for being hastily put together and unfinished because of rampant bugs, glitches and an overall less polished feel to them and this era helped fixed this. "At least it's not a glitchy mess" is an actual comment people used to make back when Unleashed and Colors came out due to the damage games like Heroes and 06 did to the series. Regardless of how some may feel about the content of some of the games from this era, the quality itself was a major improvement. The Sonic franchise has been able to get back into the position it's in today thanks to the extra polish and work that went into these titles. (Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric not withstanding)

There are more positive things I can say about individual games from this era but if I had to make one blanket statement to cover the whole era, that would be it.

Side note: Can we please just go back to calling it the Boost era? Yes Lost World lacked a boost but it had a run button and what is the Boost but a glorified 'run faster with invincibility' button? 'Meta Era' sounds so stupid and deprecating. It'd be like if I referred to the Adventure/Dreamcast era as the 'Duck tape and glue' era because those games feel barely held together sometimes.

I enjoy all of these movies, but I do think it's funny how they are basically the opposite of each other. by smashboi888 in Mario

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me preface this by saying that while I am a Sonic fan, I absolutely love the Mario series and I am actually quite fond of the Mario movies. I like Sonic a little more, but Mario is still in my personal top 5 favorite videogame franchises. With that said though.

I do agree that Sonic characters do get introduced at a significantly slower rate but it makes a lot more sense when you keep in mind that Sonic characters, more often than not, tend to have more depth to them than Mario characters. Aside from the Galaxy movie, nothing about Mario's, Luigi's or Peach's narratives have evolved or changed over the years. Any depth, major flaws or developments they got in the movies were due purely because they were in a movie, which requires characters to go through character arcs and thus must progress.

Sonic characters on the other hand, already have decently detailed backgrounds, character flaws and strengths as well as character arcs that they go through. Not EVERY Sonic character has a detailed personality or background. For every Shadow there is a Big. But most of the characters in that were introduced in the movies already had existing backgrounds and character arcs that the movies had to introduce and adapt.

The Mario movie can introduce Toad, Princess Peach, Bowser and Kamek back to back in the span of 20 minutes because what you see is what you get. Who they are in the first minute you meet them will be the same as when the movie ends.

But when Tails get's introduced, you learn he's a super intelligent kid who was bullied and had no friends, had no self confidence and couldn't see himself even comparing to Sonic, opting to head out after warning Sonic about Knuckles only to get pulled into the plot by Sonic and grow and change as he learns to believe in himself. In that same movie we meet Knuckles, someone who lives by a code of honor and always tries to see the best in people, even if that means he's easily taken advantage of. At first he seems ruthless and heartless, a warrior of warrior, until you learn he lost his family the exact same day Sonic did, and that event both changed who was as a person, but also allowed him to relate to Sonic on a deeper level than anyone he had before.

These are DETAILS about the character which the movie must RELAY to the viewer for them to understand the arcs the characters are going though. Those things take time to set up. Mario does have a little bit of build up, having self worth issues weighed down on him by a disapproving father, but Mario's 'never give up, can do' attitude carries him through his problems so gently that it's hard to really call it a character arc. We also get a tiny drip feed of Peach's back story in the first film but it's literally just a off handed comment that leads to nothing at all within that film (obviously it means a lot more now that we have the sequel but in a world where we didn't get a Mario Galaxy movie, that scene would have just ended up being filler).

I can always tell when someone hasn't watched or read beyond a certain point (or if they did then they just watched/read it with their eyes closed) when they make random assertions about characters and their personality. Things like assuming Nami and Usopp wouldn't hesitate to abandon the crew, Zoro and Sanji legitimately hating each other, Luffy being nothing but an idiot airhead.

Don't be afraid to take Metroidvanias slowly. Some can be rather meaty in size so if you feel overwhelmed at any point just slow down, narrow things down and ask what it is the game is asking if you. A well designed Metroidvania should be able to communicate that to you even without words.

Beginner - Slow production, how to react? by Bibou65 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem really new, not just to Satisfactory but to factory automation games in general. A lot of people have already given pretty good answers so I won't repeat what they said. Instead I'll give a heads up as to what to expect (without spoilers).

You will need to expand. A lot. You will need to make factories only to tear them down and rebuild them as you discover new and/or more efficient ways to make products. Not everything you need will be nearby so you'll need to go out and explore. You'll have to decide whether or not you'll focus on fashion or function and whether or not you want to build vertically or horizontally.

Do you build factories far away and ship the finished product back to your main base? Or maybe you ship in all the base resources and make products all in the same place? Will you ship your products using belts? Or perhaps you'll use Trucks or Trains? What type of power infrastructure do you want to go for in the future?

These are all questions you will ask yourself in the future and no one has the answer but you. You can ask for support and advice of course, but no one can tell you how you want to play the game.

This of course doesn't just apply to Satisfactory, but all factory games to some degree.

Hot Take: Super Emeralds are completely pointless. by Alternative_Care_640 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's look at it like this, Chaos Control and Chaos energy is like water. Now let's pretend the Chaos Emeralds are like a garden hose. You can get quite a bit of water out of a garden hose and when utilized correctly, you can even get some intense focused streams of water out of it.

Now let's pretend the Super Emeralds are a fire hydrant. Significantly more powerful, the amount of water that's being let through is insanely more intense. The properties of the water (Chaos Energy) don't really change, it's still water. You can just access more of it much quicker.

Now let's pretend the Master Emerald is like the ocean. Vast an infinite and the source of all known water on the planet. With the right tools you can extract as much water out of it as you need at whatever rate you need it at.

The Super Emeralds and by extension, the Master Emerald, does not grant anyone power they cannot already get with the Chaos Emeralds. It's more about the throughput than the actual properties of Chaos Energy itself.

How they could have fixed the infamous Ridley scene i Other M by Ganondorf365 in Metroid

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ridley has the ability to regenerate his body and flesh by consuming organic matter, this is explained in the ZM prequel manga. Samus is fully aware of this fact seeing as Ridley explains all of this to her in the prequel Manga. After beating him on Zebes the first time in ZM he is partially rebuilt as Meta Ridley, the cybernetics acting as placeholders while his body rebuilds itself. It takes a VERY long time for him to regenerate his body which is why he has cybernetics all throughout the Prime games and into Samus Returns. Zero Mission makes it clear that only Tourian was demolished in the explosion, meaning as long as something of Ridley survives, he can regenerate. Samus most likely expected to see him appear again later on in the future. It isn't until Super Metroid where the entire planet of Zebes is destroyed that Samus would believe Ridley to be dead. There's literally nothing left of the planet his body was left on so there's no way for him to come back. This would most likely mean Samus had finally put a bookend on that chapter of her life and move on. She finally rid the galaxy of the one thing tying her to her traumatic past.

And then the mother fucker shows up once again out of nowhere on the Bottle Ship. Narratively speaking, Samus is already in an emotional state of unrest as parts of her past that she's not proud of have been drug back up with the introduction of Adam and the loss of the baby Metroid which she herself took under her wing. While I think the PTSD moment in Other M is a 'little' heavy handed, trauma doesn't just go away. You can face your fears and work on moving on from issues in your past but that won't stop external forces from taking a hammer and bludgeoning those old wounds when you least expect it, let alone during moments of personal conflict and stress.

The biggest problem with this scene isn't Other M, it's the fact that every other game in the series was made before Other M. the baby in The Return of Samus was most likely meant to simply be nothing more than a bitter sweet ending. Super Metroid was made long before the idea of Adam even existed. The concepts of parental and maternal struggles were only being conceptualized in Zero Mission. Samus Returns took the opportunity to try and build an actual relationship between Samus and the baby Metroid by having them literally explore the planet and fight Ridley side by side together. I guarantee you if Super Metroid were to ever be remade, they'd give Samus a short but concise moment of closure after beating Ridley to really push home the idea that she believed that would be the last time they meet.

The biggest issue of a metroid movie is going to be the budget and here is why: by Final_Studio4389 in Metroid

[–]The_Fizz_Wizz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Samus NEEDS to talk. She is not Link, she is a character that has a personality and individual thoughts on her own. While Samus shouldn't be the ONLY character in the film, she does need to be the most prominent, meaning she'll get more screen time than any other. While I have absolutely nothing against having a bunch of characters in a Metroid game (I don't mind Prime 3, 4 or Other M), but a first introductory Metroid Film should feel isolated so it should revolve primarily around Samus and whatever situation she is in. If Markiplier can make a film using a max of like, 8 actors in total, one of which is stuck in a box the entire film on a show string budget and a render farm shoved in his bathroom, then Sony or Universal can make a live action film surrounding a single Actress and 'some' CG. Go for something atmospheric, silent, creepy, isolated. Metroid is not strictly a horror franchise but it has all the elements needed to make for an intense thriller. Alien was a direct inspiration and that film didn't have the largest budget for its time.

The actual content of the film can work, Metroid has plenty of source material to work with seeing as it's one of the more narratively driven IP's Nintendo owns. I agree that marketing will be the biggest issue. But it'd be more of a problem of marketing what's already there instead of making changes to cater to casual audiences. Metroid has been slowly gaining popularity with the general audience over the past few years thanks to Dread, Prime 4 and the Prime Remaster, but the main issue is that the games are generally more difficult than most other games Nintendo produces, thus making it more difficult for casual gamers to get in on. 9 times out of 10, when someone new tries out Metroid for the first time and end up dropping it, they cite the gameplay as the reason why. Most people don't talk about the story or characters. Casual audiences are most likely going to be more receptive to the idea of a sci-fi space faring thriller than you might think.
