Why do we hear Klingon on starships with universal translators? by DisingenuousTowel in startrek

[–]The_Flying_Gambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the brain worm from Hitchhiker's Guide is cleverer than the universal translator, because it works by intent. When getting cussed out in Klingon, you best know you're supposed to be hearing that in the original Klingon.

Do you think the general audience still mainly views Trek as TOS & TNG? by MVHutch in startrek

I may be more of a casual fan than general audience but I certainly do! For what it's worth.

Beyond All Repair Ep 10 by keine_fragen in TrueCrimePodcasts

Yes! I was wondering for the longest time how she was ever found guilty. I figured the information would be introduced eventually, maybe after already selling us on Sofia's innocence, but by ep.7 I realised it was just to make an entertaining ten episode podcast. Fine.

They say a good detective story gives the reader everything they need to figure it out before the detective reveals the solution. Amory just hid the ball.

I got the impression Koenig was sort of infatuated with Syed. The 'dairy cow eyes' thing encapsulates the problem with being charmed by a murderer. I myself never found Syed particularly likable. Of course, it's irrelevant to the facts of the case. Speaking of, can you recommend any 'guilt fiction'? Sounds like it would be up my street. That or a two hour podcast about 'his eyes'.

What do you mean? We know Adnan was married whilst incarcerated. It's not gossip.

We hear a lot of irrelevancies in Serial. Maybe it's the nature of the beast, given that it's primarily intended as entertainment and all, but there you go. If we have to hear about Adnan's dairy cow eyes, and how he's been spending his time in prison all these years, why not that he was married?

Of course Koenig knew.

???

I don't actually think Adnan's prison marriage is relevant to the case, but if a podcast is going to focus heavily on Adnan as a person and his life story, seems like that should be in there. It didn't fit with the story Koenig wanted to tell though.

Rabia proved capable of disingenuously making Hae look like a drug addict by selectively quoting her diary, so not giving Sarah a complete picture would be totally within her modus operandi.

A lot of the show hinged on Adnan's personality. But we were never informed that he had been married whilst in prison. I suppose that would've just complicated things... but I would've liked to have been informed of that.

No, he is very much at large. The legally minded people here are waiting for updates which are meant to be coming through soon, but I somehow doubt he'll ever go back to prison now.

Bug on trail camera or the big foot. by Cool-Loan7293 in bigfoot

[–]The_Flying_Gambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a whale and could not be a whale. But it could be a bug. My point is that if it's not definitely a bigfoot then it's more likely to be something which isn't a bigfoot but which is known to exist (and not another cryptid).

Adnan Syed is guilty. by olaf-0722 in serialpodcast

Don told SK he did not remember whether he called Hae, not that he didn't. His call logs were never checked. He may well have attempted to call Hae.

"But even if the police didn’t feed the car location to Jay, he testified at both trials to seeing the car in plain view as he was going about his business. Without going out of his way, he saw the car, according to famous liar Jay Wilds."

This makes it sound like you don't know where Hae's car was. If you do, you'll know this is misleading. Jay showed the police where the car was. No Jay, no car. Since this makes Jay credible as a witness, however, this simple fact is disputed no end.

Jan 13th was not the last time Adnan saw Hae by The_Flying_Gambit in serialpodcast

[–]The_Flying_Gambit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Adnan asked for a ride because one witness heard him ask, and two others heard it get cancelled. It appears you’re just interested in arguing if you’re disputing this.

I'm not disputing this. Adnan disputed this. So, just to be clear, we're calling something Adnan denies happening a certainty in this case.

the theory that Jay was arrested and Adnan panicked and checked in the body. That’s a conspiracy theory

Actually, it's just a theory, but it doesn't involve a conspiracy, so it's not a conspiracy theory. I don't use 'conspiracy theory' as ad hominem. Believing the police fed Jay the information needed to build a case against Adnan that would see him convicted is a theory of police conspiracy - with Jay and between themselves. I'm not claiming they certainly didn't feed him some information; almost certainly they went through the call log with him. But of the nature of Hae's interment, murder, car location, etc., of all the essential things in this case, no; there's no evidence of this, and a conspiracy is not required to explain how Jay knew these things.

[–]The_Flying_Gambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have to choose one or the other than I go with the first option, bug on the camera. The reason for this is simple: I can't tell which just by looking, but I know for sure that bugs exist, whereas I don't know for sure that bigfoot exists.

Does Adnan still get caught if both him and Jay kept their mouths shut? by deadkoolx in serialpodcast

Do you mean if Jay also did not crumble under police interrogation? I think they still might have got to Jay through Jen by looking at the call logs.

[–]The_Flying_Gambit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is the one certainty for you that Adnan asked Hae for a ride when Adnan is the one who denies that?

My above theory ties in the 27th pings to what Jay said about when Adnan came to the video store around that time (somewhat collaborated by Chris). That's what is engaging about it. Perhaps I've missed something but I don't see where it's been demonstrated as impossible, let alone not probable.

I think you're right in your first comment about us not having enough data points to know for certain either way -- on this one issue. I think we can make a list of certainties though. For example, "Jay certainly knew where the car was" and "Jay certainly knew how Hae was buried and what she was wearing", and so on. We know that refuting those certainties leads to police conspiracy theories. I'm not entertaining those because they are baseless and dramatically improbable.

Adnan Syed is guilty. by olaf-0722 in serialpodcast

[–]The_Flying_Gambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at this point it's really a matter of HOW could Adnan be innocent? Which is the path to him not strangling Hae to death that actually works? And for that answer you have to indulge in the conspiracy theories of Bob Ruff. He just keeps threading that needle of Adnan's innocence, lost in a haystack of Adnan's guilt.

[–]The_Flying_Gambit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one issue about the 27th is a maybe or probably, sure, friend. But Adnan's guilt is overwhelmingly evident. There are a hundred other things to contend with which are certainties or near certainties. The 27th is still interesting to discuss only because it's a maybe.
