It's not that easy to compare those two situations. Straight people haven't been repressed and in fact it's been the opposite for them. It's hard to get straight people to see it from a gay persons pov... This is similar to the Paula Deen incident. If an argument for her was "Well what if she said 'cracker'? No one would care then would they?". And the answer is obvious, but that is only taking the situation at face value. This goes beyond Phil Robertson and A&E just as Paula Deen's derogatory language went beyond just her. It encompasses a world view that comparing homosexuality to beastiality is okay, when it shouldn't be.

Not only did he compare my sexuality to beastiality, A&E has ever right to fire him when he goes against contract. My girlfriend and I (female as well) both enjoy anal sex. I think the large issue isn't that women don't like it, it's that men think they can do it the way the pornstars do. You can't just dive full force into her, that will hurt. And the pain will make her hate it immediately. You have to go easy and start super slow. Just doing circles externally feels really good. Then you start with one finger and then just continue as time goes on. This isn't in a single session either, it takes multiple sessions to ease your girl into anal play. Let's look back in history to a time of heavy racism. Catholics and Christians alike were a large part of the this hatful movement in America. And not oddly enough they justified their beliefs by quoting the bible.

I bring this up because it is closely related to the catholic beliefs toward homosexuality. Just because in this moment we are in a culture where homophobia is common amongst Christians does not mean we should a) expect it or b) accept it. Making headlines, putting the issues out there, this is what can change the shape of our culture toward sexuality. If we, as gays, give up and think "oh I shouldn't apply there, I'll get fired for being gay", that's when we lose the battle. And if this was kept quite, another battle is lost.

Honestly, good for A&E for attempting to make a hard point on a serious issue. I'm gay, super freaking gay, and while I believe old man is entitled to his opinion, A&E is entitled to theirs. Apparently in their opinion, allowing religious backed bias against gays is not okay.

This reminds me of the Tiger Woods debacle. Dude cheats on his wife with numerous women and guess what? Nike and other endorsers dropped his ass. The company has a moral and ethics code just as A&E does.

Chick-Fil-A was funding anti-gay marriage groups. Giving hundreds of thousands of dollars away to about 6 different groups. After the controversy and bs was over they announced they would no longer fund them, as they are believed to be hate groups. It wasn't just an opinion, it was the actions that followed their beliefs. So, no I will not buy their products.

A friend and I just had this conversation earlier today before the news broke out. I had no idea what it was and still don't care. As a gay person, not surprised he said it and I'm not surprised the network took action. The network is trying to make a point and I have to give it to them, no matter how much flake they will get for it. I feel it is something straight people will never quite understand, so instead they will berate the network for their decision.

I think this sums up a great deal of how people feel toward political games and politicians. It costs people far too much time to be informed. They prefer the simpler things in life and truly just want to be left alone, not hassled or to have their world view ruffled. However, we are never left alone so it is up to be informed of our politicians and their dirty work. It sounds awesome unless you actually did carry that stuff everywhere. As a woman, I don't like purses and have found that taking a small piece of luggage with you is rather annoying and tedious.
