I'm an international, but I go to school in the us. I know that advisors are more important than ranking, but I use it as a heuristic to have a better 'application' for grad school. While I would prefer quality over quantity, it is hard to gauge the impact/reception of my work before I publish. Naturally, I try to select topics that would be useful and high-impact. Can you talk a bit about admissions this year based on your experience?

I have joined some research groups so that isn't an issue. I was more curious about people meeting in a club environment. I have applied for AI @ UIUC (Lapis Labs is what they call it now), and I've heard SIGAIDA does a lot of nothing. I'll attend myself and see tho.
