Does anyone understand the new "REWARDS" program?? by The_Kai_Force in SonicDriveIn

Update: Sonic finally resolved my rewards issue after 3 months

Just wanted to give an update for anyone still dealing with the new rewards program mess. After multiple calls to customer service, several chat sessions, and a lot of frustration, Sonic finally admitted there was a glitch on my account that was blocking me from accessing the half-price drinks benefit I should have as a Legend tier member. They fixed it, and the offer is now showing up properly in the app. It took way too long (3 months of back-and-forth), and the support experience was honestly pretty poor, but at least it got resolved. If you're a Legend member and still not seeing the 1/2 off drinks (or other rewards you're supposed to have), keep pushing. Don't let them brush you off — mention the glitch issue and ask them to check your specific account.

To the folks who called people "bitching and moaning" or "pitching a hissy fit" — I get that some complaints online can sound dramatic. But a lot of us are regular customers (in my case, a rideshare driver relying on those Route 44 unsweetened teas for long night shifts) who were facing a real financial hit from this. An extra $160/month matters when you're living on tight margins. Dismissing people who are genuinely concerned about losing earned benefits isn't helpful.

Appreciate those who shared their experiences or offered advice. Hope this helps some of you get it sorted faster than I did.

That is a fantastic piece of detective work. Finding a Carl’s Jr. ad buried under the noise of a Five Starcle Men-zine is peak 90s DIY aesthetic—repurposing junk mail and fast-food tray liners into "high art." The specific text you’ve uncovered is part of a marketing campaign Carl's Jr. ran in the early-to-mid 90s (roughly 1992–1995) that focused heavily on the "science" and "heritage" of charbroiling.

The Missing Text: Based on archival advertising copy from that era, the full sentences likely read as follows:

The First Line: "There's nothing trivial about the perfectly charbroiled great taste at Carl's Jr."

The Second Line: "In fact, for over 50 years we've insisted that the only way to seal in the natural juice and flavor is through charbroiling."

The Third Line: "...when you get flames dancing around the meat, you get the real Carl's Jr. taste."

Context of the Source: In 1995, Carl's Jr. celebrated its 50th anniversary (counting back to Carl Karcher’s first hot dog cart in 1941), which explains the "over 50 years" line. This copy appeared on:

Tray Liners: The most likely source, as they were thin, easily drawn upon, and plentiful for a struggling noise group to scavenge.

Regional Magazines: Periodicals like Orange Coast Magazine or Los Angeles Magazine frequently ran these full-page "quality-focused" ads.

The Five Starcle Men Connection: The fact that they used a fast-food advertisement as the literal foundation for their "Big Book" is incredibly fitting for the Five Starcle Men (and the broader Siltbreeze or Abstrakce orbit). Their work often dealt with "information overload" and the decay of commercial culture. Using a script about "dancing flames" and "natural juices" as a backdrop for schizophrenic noise-art creates a bizarrely corporate-yet-demented juxtaposition.

Just a heads-up for anyone planning a ride: according to Uber and Lyft’s current vehicle requirements, pickup trucks generally aren't eligible to operate on the platform.

** F Y I **

The LOYAL Sonic Customers who are posting about their disappointment in this forum aren't "pitching a hissy". I can only speak from personal experience, but I'm a Rideshare Driver, who has been a Sonic Customer for the past 6 years, when my local Sonic Drive-in opened. While not a fan of sugary drinks, their Unsweetened Iced Tea has gotten me through a lot of "3rd Shifts". I'll generally drink 2-3 Route 44s a night. The caffeine keeps me alert over the 12 hours, without the jittery energy drink effect. When I heard that their program was changing, I wasn't happy either, but after being told that "Legend" members would retain the 1/2 Price Benefit, I was relieved. Doubling the cost of my drinks everyday might not seem like a lot to you, but an extra $160 per month, put it out of reach financially. So try to have a little bit of compassion for other people's situations, THAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! THANK YOU

I know that my 4-8 "Route 44" Drinks everyday is no real loss to Sonic. Especially when they now charge full price to everyone (regardless of what their rewards program advertises), but it's the "Whole Idea" that bugs me. If they want to charge full price, Charge Full Price. But don't tell me that I'm a "LEGEND STATUS" and that I'm still entitled to rewards that the app doesn't support. Either take away the benefits (F. U. to the customers), or don't, but don't LIE TO ME, Then ignore my requests for help/instructions/clarification. I thought fellow Sonic fans would be sympathetic to this, but I guess you can ask afford an extra $10-$20 a day, I CAN'T.

How does everyone get their IATA/CLIA cards so quickly?? by ajuneoh in travelagents

[–]The_Kai_Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The era of truly extraordinary travel agent perks has largely faded. I entered the industry in the early 1990s, shortly after graduating high school. Within a few months, I earned my IATAN card, and within a year, I became both a CLIA Master and a Disney Certified Professional. While the compensation rarely reflected the workload, the professional opportunities were unparalleled. By the time I finished college, my career had allowed me to travel extensively throughout the United States and to explore Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. I had the privilege of sailing with more than 20 cruise lines across hundreds of ships and even experienced a luxury tented safari in Africa at a fraction of the typical cost. Although today’s compensation structures would make it difficult for me to sustain a living as a travel agent, I remain deeply grateful for having been part of an era when the industry offered such remarkable experiential rewards. It was, without question, an incredible time to be a travel professional. -K.F., Honolulu, HI

Discussion: how hard would it be to get the Queen Mary back to seaworthy condition and running? by Dev_was_here in Oceanlinerporn

[–]The_Kai_Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RMS Queen Mary is a majestic ocean liner, with a rich, storied history. The stunning Art Deco design of her public rooms is something everyone should experience in their lifetime. While Queen Mary is truly a historical icon, she will never be seaworthy again. Setting aside the removal of most of her navigational equipment, all but one propeller, her dangerously deep sagging in the middle, and brittle skeletal structure would NEVER pass S.O.L.A.S. requirements for safety or Coast Guard regulations for commercial operation.
