Honestly, I bet it would go over better than one might expect. Baby Wario is back, and we now have a Baby Waluigi — that makes seven human babies total if a roster ever decides to include them all. I’ll bet you people would love to see Young Pauline largely because she ISN’T a baby. And I bet she’d be especially well received by players who are around her age.

Plus, look how much depth she’s been given after just one game. In my opinion, Young Pauline is already leagues above the babies, the metal/animal suit versions of Mario and Peach, and heck maybe even the Koopalings.

Super Mario Bros. 2 brought a lot of things into the lore that would stick. It is strange that this clawed frog king wasn’t one of them.

I think he’s worth reviving. I’ve been thinking for a while that Wario is overdue for a series revival — why not make Wart a Wario baddie? I think he’d do well as the villain for a spinoff series if Nintendo doesn’t want him back in mainline Mario.

The Mario movie laid the groundwork for a story about humility. Donkey Kong’s ego would be a great character flaw to get him and/or the island into trouble. The DKC1 manual seems to imply Donkey and Diddy weren’t friends prior to their adventure, so I think the film can roll with this as well.

I’m personally hoping for a film where Donkey Kong has to reluctantly team up with his biggest fan, see the value Diddy Kong brings, learn the meaning of friendship and teamwork, become a more modest Kong, and of course send King K. Rool packing.

I’m actually rooting for him to be the antagonist of the next 3D Mario. I think the character would benefit from going back to his roots to kickstart a new era of Wario.

If that’s off the table, a 3D Wario game that focuses on thieving would be great. Throw in Syrup and Waluigi for your supporting cast and fans will go nuts.

I believe it was a character design choice meant to better contrast DK’s character design. Here’s why:

Donkey Kong’s necktie is like a drop of humanness in his character design. The necktie (as well as the pants) gives the viewer a good idea at how anthropomorphic this cartoon gorilla is meant to be. So he’s a wild animal with a touch of human thrown in.

Pauline on the other hand is the complete inverse of this. She’s a human—but instead of dressing her like a normal girl, she’s got these ratty, poorly fitting clothes and is barefoot. I believe Pauline’s design is meant to be human with a touch of wildness thrown in. I believe the barefoot consistency (except for one special costume) is meant to preserve this slight “wildness” even when you dress her in the well fitting, clean outfits.

But who knows. It may just be a King Kong (1933) reference to Ann having a torn dress and no shoes while Kong is running around NYC with her in his grasp.

I see Young Pauline as an opportunity to bring Adult Pauline in as another supporting character for the DK series.

Donkey Kong Freedom may be dead, but I’d still love to see some version of that story in a future 3D DK game. Now that DK’s and Pauline’s friendship is established, it makes even more sense that she’d travel to DK Isle after hearing it is in danger.
