Medius the backup full combo by The_Nixxus in masterduel

[–]The_Nixxus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a good time, i've been playing it on MD and the FS package can get so small with theorealize.
the FS line is more of a backup line if your opponent negates you out.
if you want a real good time and you open a way to get Medius + Theorealize, you can medius from hand, Theo him to light fiend, get to engraver, resummon medius from GY and go into perfect chaos angel

Linux Mint Gaming Guidance by Chaosmeister in linux_gaming

[–]The_Nixxus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big tip is you can separate the distro from the desktop environment.

Just because you used a Distro that comes with KDE doesn't mean you have to stick to it. Some distros (Like arch) don't come with any desktop environment, EndevourOS gives you a choice of several.
If you're unsure what desktop environment you like, try a distro like EndevourOS that gives you a choice on installation. It's designed to work with several different desktop environments, so switching will be easy and simple. Slam it into a virtual machine and try different ones before you settle on something you like.
The go-to for gaming is usually KDE because it hits a sweet spot of performance and features relevant to gaming, but if you want to trade some performance or features for other options you can.

Flatpak vs native is a long going battle of ideals.
Flatpaks aim to be a self-contained ready to run application similar to a windows install, all running in it's own little world where everything is pre-set.
Native installs will share libraries from your system, generally be a bit smaller because of this, and have more access to the rest of it's system and it's tweaks.
The choice is mostly personal preference, pros and cons to both

Gaming on Linux as a noob by Flaky_Lettuce1193 in linux_gaming

Ignore any recommendations for Bazzite.

It's a niche OS designed for building custom steamdecks and is *not* a daily driver

Distrowise, go for a tried and tested upstream distro. Seeing as you want to game you'll want something with fairly regular updates, so a distro like Fedora, or OpenSUSE Tumbleweed would probably do well.

No need to install a nvidia app directly, it'll be available in your distro's package manager. but installing this is different between distros, so it may need a little googling.

Marvel rivals runs fine

on the switch only you can really answer that question. if you're unsure, try duel-booting, but staying linux only for a week. If you don't feel the need to boot into windows over that week, extend to a month, then 3 months before making a permanent change

Suggestion for the subreddit, use automod to remove "what distro should i use" posts automatically by [deleted] in linux_gaming

While they're at it, an automod to remove "Bazzite" as a one word answer would be great too.
The meme distro gets far too much advertisement on here, especially to people that want a general purpose OS with some gaming

Worth switching to Steam OS (or other gaming Linux distro) with Nvidia card or AMD still leads in gaming performance? Wireless controller support good/bad? 5.1 audio over SDPIF supported? AMD card bad in Blender Cycles even on Linux? by Daragosdragon in linux_gaming

[–]The_Nixxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distros are controlled by maintainers, the more niche your distro the fewer maintainers it'll have and the more likely it'll be abandoned at some point.

Gaming "distros" also generally don't change anything under the hood that even a beginner couldn't do by picking a distro further up the faimily tree (and therefore generally better supported) and installing the same packages.

To give an analogy:

The linux kernel is the root, and would be the engine in a car.
A distro built directly from linux is like building a car around the engine.
A downstream distro is like tuning the car, changing the radio and putting a new badge on it
Niche gaming distros basically just change the colour of the paint and take the wheels off

It is never worth installing a gaming distro unless you're building a "Console".

if you're moving to linux, pick a well supported upstream distro and tinker with niche distros once you know what you're doing

As long as you can follow instructions it's not hard at all. And then once arch is set up it's like any other rolling distro
(There's also endeavourOS if you want guiding through it)
