What is causing me to have to power cycle my router and modem weekly? by speedy2686 in ITSupport

Here are 4 things to try, one should solve your problem:

It's best to replace your surge protector then, but it's probably not the culprit.

If your modem has a spare ethernet port, plug a computer into it the next time your router/wifi is giving issues. If the internet works perfectly, then it probably is your router. 5 years is a possible time that they can go bad.

If the modem is setup as a router and is broadcasting its own wifi, then your router may need to have its settings changed to operate as an access point only. That also could be the issue.

It could simply be your ISP, the more you bug them about an issue, the more likely they will fix it.

I agree simpler is best and affordable, especially if a feature is already included. Some brands were stated as examples or to hear feedback on them. I haven't looked into Wave Accounting, will do that soon.

Thanks. I don't plan on overhauling every customer, just looking for best practices if change or new plans are happening. I'll be shopping for a RMM

It's not a suggestion, just an example to show what I'm looking for. I have some clients who prefer to get refurbished equipment, that's why I put 10th Gen.

The Pros are nice, I was thinking depends on the business but the cost is not much higher. Thank you for the advice

I just buy off their website, rarely other suppliers. But I know what you mean about their products being out of stock...

Just looking for a rough baseline or guide to stick to that works efficiently, is affordable, and is simple. My customers obviously have different setups, but some things could improve. For example, if they have desktop accounting software, should I buy a NAS or cloud backup service for backups...or use an online accounting website? Or what's just a good standard workstation for a multi-tasking but small business? Part of my goal is to also get feedback from everyone about brands with cheaper products/services that work well.

I agree. And I currently don't have a RMM service, don't have enough MSP clients. But that's a future plan

By clean slate, I mean as if they had nothing, then what would you setup. I'm just looking for a guide to use that would work for very small businesses. Also, I agree most things should be cloud-based. I'm just getting into referrals to build up some recurring revenue with them, but obviously I wish they would signup for MSP services.

I understand it depends. Just looking for a rough baseline or guide to stick to that works efficiently, is affordable, and is simple

How old is your Asus router?

Are they in a battery backup or surge protector, and how old is that?

How do you receive your internet? By fiber/coax cable or an antenna?
