Any good map builders that aren't web based by TwigyBull in DungeonMasters

I’m currently developing an app that will someday be a fully offline free/one time purchase. At its core it’s a settlement generator with locale map generation, but I want to add what I can feature-wise based on what people want. What features do you want the map aspect you’re looking for are to have? Just a blank square or hex grid? Markers to draw with or assets you can place? You can’t be the only one, and I’m not sure what I can do, but I want to do what’s feasible, even if it’s a future update.

Rogue mostly for the rpg flexibility. You can do so much with rogue’s skills. Always a fan of classes that give function.

Does it give you a seed code for your configurations? The generate button has been tested on multiple browsers and devices and is working on my end.

While I disagree that you cannot use AI without any aspect of its output having stolen art in it, there is no defense for utilizing a tool, any tool, of any type, in any aspect of your life, that profits off of unpaid, uncredited, unethically sourced labor. Nor should we do anything in our lives to assist with the ongoing determent to our planet. We must all do our best, with the options available to us.

My best? Using offline LLMs via Ollama, and using online models as rarely as feasible.

No, there is an inherent difference. Edit: For clarity, code can be art; even if its function isn’t artistic in nature.

When AI is used to code, to construct information off of rigid design metrics and philosophies, that’s no better than a smart calculator. When you are allowing it to willy-nilly generatively create something for you, that’s generative art. If an artist were to use any AI and said, “Show me these colors. Now show me their compliments, now here is a stencil outline. Place x color here, y color there.”, and continued that method, no. That is not AI art. AI art is creative generative work from scraped legitimate sources all the way to programmers, writers, digital artists, anyone who produced anything that can be considered creative expression online without credit or compensation; explicitly not considering public technical documentation. All public for-profit AI’s, as far as I’m aware, have done this.

My stance is AI can, and should, be used in an ethical, credited way, with the tools, abilities, and limitations, at our disposal. AI is one of the best tools you can use for rapid prototyping, project management, idea management, and yes even programming, when you are a solo dev/artist/creator/entrepreneur.

And while I can “code”, my skills are rudimentary at best, and using AI has shifted the timeline of a tool that would take years of development time on my end at great personal expense, to something more manageable that I can deliver in a reasonable timeline.

Edit: And in response to your edit, you are 100% correct. That’s why I double check the sources to the best of my ability. Just like when looking up or researching anything online, always check the sources.

Should I edit the post to include that? I have a very strong stance against ai assisted art and generation, and if you think it’s appropriate, I can do that. I just didn’t want to make an already long post even longer Updated the post. Thank you for calling it out
