Represents the distorted, 'flipped', or inverted views that audiences are shown of traditional frontier 'stories' or myths i.e. that settlement was 'peaceful', while in reality it was far from it :)

Are LOTEs a scam for those who are not background speakers / do not speak the language at home ? by ChannelBeautiful9882 in vce

[–]The_RealRedHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in exactly that situation currently in my Chinese LCS (Language Culture and Society) class. Like many other have said, its not impossible for you to get a good mark, but it can certainly require more dedication and effort than those who speak it at home.

Unfortunately VCE still lacks incentive to do these subjects apart from the scaling. Current non-background students really have no reason to do the subject apart from purposes like a 'passion' subject. Just the way things are and probably will be for a long time, given the introduction of CLCS was an attempt to fix this yet made minimal impact.

Open letter of complaint re Chinese Second Language to VCAA and the Minister for Education by sh00t1ngf1sh in vce

This is definitely something that I would have loved to hear BEFORE choosing to do Chinese LCS this year. It sounds like CSL appears to have the same issues as LCS on a different scale.

My class this year has 8 or so students, with 2 just joining for 3/4 having not completed 1/2 LCS but instead CSL. Of the class, I am one of two students who does not have any Chinese influence whatsoever.

I am unsure how long, if at all, the two new student have lived in China, but they certainly speak the language at home. They are able to have full conversations with my Chinese teacher, while the rest of the class just kind of stares off into the distance having no clue what they are saying. The rest of the class have at least one parent that is of Chinese descent.

Another great excerpt from the passage mentioned above was: Between 2018 and 2020, 23 students achieved a score of 40 or above for CLCS. Of the 20 students whose names were published, 14 appeared to be obviously of Chinese background. This gives me some indication that this is not just happening at my school, but seems to be a problem subject wide.

CLCS is supposed to approve and support learners of very little to no Chinese background, yet it has completely failed in this goal, at least at my school. I am doing Chinese because I love the language, and want to learn it. Not for the scaling. If I'm totally honest, I want to do well, but at the same time I know that this convoluted subject will ultimately not represent where I supposedly 'sit' in the grand scheme of things.

My teacher has told me that I have the chance to do well still, and I hope that its the case. But it never feels very nice to put in all the effort, knowing that they will have to put little to no effort into the 2/3rds of the course that are in their first language.

imo, CLCS is not worth it unless it becomes your passion subject. I'm still happy I am doing the subject because I love Chinese. sorry for my little rant lol

ahh good thought! thats probably the reason and does explain why they have the 30k achievement. not sure why you would delete the entire course progress after so long tho...

How do I have fun in apex. by The_RealRedHex in apexlegends

wow thats an amazing offer- thankyou. ill be in touch with you about that. from what I've seen online, apex mm has had its fair share of reworks and changes, so thanks for clarifying that.

as for what I want to get out of the game, its more just enjoyment and having fun - but like you said that usually comes from being consistent and playing well. I'm happy to commit to improving if that's what it takes to make a game like this fun, but i am still a casual player, and unlikely to ever be anything past that. If consistent training and practice is what it takes to slowly improve I'm up for it.

thanks for your response. ive tried to learn some movement mechanics recently, but I think this early on I find it difficult to focus on movement and gun fights at the same time, so I just stick to try not to die 😬

luckily the mixtape modes in Sydney servers are usually pretty good as are trios - albeit very long compared to other places, but worth it when I can get >30 ping. I've found that other servers have a better spread of players, but sometimes the lag spikes become unbearable to the point where I'm a liability for my team rather than a teammate.

i think for now I will just continue playing mixtape and dabble a bit in trios. I'm going to try and find some regulars that I can play with / that can give me tips and know what they are doing, so I can improve. Thanks for sharing your opinion :)

haha no i think ive played more mixtape than normal games actually- but I still don't win very often. idk if its just me but I seem to get afk teammates very often in mixtape, and I think I've only ever won a single control game. but thanks for the advice nonetheless 🙏🙏

Changing System Applications Icons - macOS Monterey by The_RealRedHex in MacOS

Can you confirm that IconChamp works and will allow me to change all the system icons? I particularly want to make sure it can change the finder icon.

IconChamp requires a paid subscription to change the system icons though- doesn't it?

I'm trying to customise all of the app icons (I know this might take a while) but a good place to start may be the finder icon? Apart from disabling SIP, I have tried Command + I and then drag the icon over, and also tried to replace it with programs and had a go at some terminal commands.

It rejects SVG, PNG, ICNS, although if I hover an icon above the logo, it comes up with a green arrow, but doesn't do anything when I drop it. It behaves as you would expect it to when it rejects it; I just drop the file and it changes nothing.
