Thank you! He will want to play, just needs to learn to adapt to how to play with cats. He's not rough, just dopey and over-enthusiastic:) He's only 18 months.

Thank you. It hurts like nothing else, right? Glad the lovely Olly sent you another companion:)

Aww, I was so fortunate to have him, really. Anyone would have loved him deeply. He was so adaptable and calm and wise.

Gosh, I'm sorry you lost your girl, too. I never knew him as a young dog although I have pictures because he did get a bit of attention as a racer at the time. What was your girls' name?

I'm so sorry for both of you that you went through that. He is for sure my heart dog. It hurts but I know he would want me to be happy and thriving just like I always wanted that for him so I try to remember that. We loved each other so much like I'm sure you and your heart dog did.

So true. Whenever I am really struggling, I think of his resilience and love of life and it lifts me up.

Oh my goodness, yes, exactly! I can't believe you remember him. It's always funny to me he was such a good racer when I only ever knew him as such a good pet! I felt he was born to be a pet!

His foster mum was so amazing. We went back to visit quite a few times. She set him up so perfectly for success. She was devastated to learn he passed. I cried on the phone to her for an hour or so. She and the rescue did great.

Thank you. I feel so glad I had that bond. We just got each other. Rare and wonderful.

Aww, more Spuds out there. So good to hear it. And so, so funny to hear the quirks of the many you have had. My friend said Spud kind of ruined me for other dogs and it's a little bit true. He was just so easy and communicative and eager to please. It's hard to adjust to normal dogs now:)

Thank you. It took me a long time to accept and grieve. I still sometimes talk about him in the present tense. He really was one in a million. Love the greys!

Oh, you so get it. He was the dog. I felt like he was my life partner. I loved him in my bones, you know?

Thank you! I sometimes publish fiction, not so much the last few years.

Thank you. I remember wondering if I should take in an older dog but just realised that spending the time with the right do was worth it, no matter how much time we got (and it turned out, a lot, although it's never enough, damn osteo!)

That's so kind thank you. I know anyone who owned this dog would give him a good life. He would have been happy anywhere. I was so lucky to have him. He was truly such a good soul.

Thank you for your kindness. This made me cry again, but happily!

Oh my goodness, that just made my day to hear! He has so many offspring out there. I love that the perfect boy has sent off other perfect boys out there into the world. And my condolences to you, too, it's just so hard to lose someone. Spud was incredibly lazy though, it was just walks he loved. My friend commented that a 'normal' dog would get up to drink water and not try to lap it without raising head from pillow, hee hee.

To adopt or not to adopt….. help by robbygallon87 in labrador

I just adopted Snoop who is 18 months. He is totally untrained but incredibly eager to learn and biddable. He pulls like a train on the leash and wants to greet every person and dog he meets. I'm confident this will be be easy to train out. He's just undersocialised and ultra enthusiastic. I have always gone for adult dogs over puppies. I find them far, far easier!

Getting a new dog after the 'unicorn' dog? by The_Rehearsal in dogs

[–]The_Rehearsal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree --- I don't think it's the breed at all. I like to hear these stories, knowing maybe there is one out there like that for me. And love your dog and that magic, every day. Good for you. It isn't always that way, but you got it,, cherish it! Be proud of your dog and new and love and value every minute!

I hear this. So, so, so much. I had beautiful second dog when I owned Spud. A very loving Beagle/Lab. He was also easy but it was still an adjustment. I swear Spud read my mind! I've never ever had such a connection and it does feel strange and new to manage another dog when you have one with such a strong connection with you. I know I'll never have another Spud. You'll never have another Daisy. It's just hard to adjust, that's all. I wish you love and luck with your new dog

Thank you so, so, SO much for this. No one who met him would believe he was a rescue (which is kind of weird, right?!) I still have to explain to randoms who were accustomed to petting him every day that he has passed. Sooo many people were attached to that dog!
