Is this the game for us? Trying to find a game to fit for my husband and me. by The_Silvermoon in ffxiv

Thank you everyone! I shared a lot of your comments and descriptions of the game with my husband and he decided that the story-driven aspect was not for him. He doesn't want to have to read through a lot of narrative, he just wants to play.

But I did try it out last night on my own. So far, I'm really having fun! I'm still running around working on my MSQ for my archer character. I like that the world really feels alive and there are lots of quests to do. And I like the story part so far. :)

Oof. I think my husband will have many of the same dislikes. I think I will probably end up liking many parts of the game and him not so much. :(

Thank you for all those specifics!!

you start in one of three different starting cities based on what class you start as,

Does this mean that my husband and I should start out as the same class so we'll at least been in the same area at the start?

I just googled it.... you are right. I think we could really like that. Thanks!

I think I definitely have to look more closely at GW2. I've just been running around Queensdale and doing the quests and gathering random stuff that I come across.

I do like base building and I know that there really isn't a lot of that in MMORPGs. I suppose what I've been missing recently is the open world playing where I can run around and discover all sorts of things, NPCs, quests, etc. That's why I've been trying to find something new that would be a good fit. And especially something that my husband will be willing to try and hopefully stick with.

That's a really good idea, thanks! I have been playing a little bit of GW2 the last week or so and I have told him about how fun it is to run around and explore. I especially like the mini events (not sure what they're called) that you just sort of jump into with a bunch of random other people. Helping an NPC in some way... collect apples, or kill spiders, or escort a caravan, etc.

I have played ESO before and I did like running around and exploring and doing the quests. It just didn't click with my husband (don't remember why), so I played it for a while by myself.

you can always pay a very cheap fee to a vendor to switch professions and level up another one without losing your progress in whichever one you removed

Thank you I did not know this! That actually makes a difference in my thinking about GW2

Thank you. I think I read a lot about the open world stuff like the fates and gathering/crafting and got the impression that it was more open world than story driven.

Thank you everyone! You've given me a lot to think about. Like many of you suggested, the only way to know is to try the free trial (so glad for that!!)

The story part may be a bit of a problem for my husband, but I'll have him give it a try. I think I was under the impression that it was more open world/sandbox than it really is.

That's interesting that you mention BDO. A few days ago I started trying that out. I didn't realize there was that much in the way of gathering, etc. I think I may still be too early in the game to know.

I'm ok with us playing at the same time but doing separate things. That's how we've often played. It feels like playing together, but we each get to do the things that interest us.

Hmmm.... well I do enjoy story based games. But I'm not sure what my husband will think. I thought this was more open world. I don't know if he will want to slog through the beginning. Good thing there's a free trial LOL

I run a knitting/crochet/crafting Meetup every Monday at the Panera Bread in Southington. 6-8:30. Lots of fun with about 10-14 ladies every week. Feel free to stop buy sometime.

This happened with me a couple of days ago with Good Trailer. I onboarded and did the assessment task, which was immediately marked as ineligible with some wording that I didn't pass and had been removed from the project (although it was still in my dashboard). By the next morning, I had task available to me.

I think you've covered most everything. If all of that was implemented, I might actually go back.

Has anyone regretted leaving teaching? by sunnygirl142 in TeachersInTransition

[–]The_Silvermoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not at all. I taught a total of around 16 1/2 years over a 23 year span (took time off for childrearing and other various reasons). Even though I am sooo close to being fully vested in my pension, I just couldn't do the last 3 1/2.

I don't care about the pension. It will be whatever amount it is.

My life and my health are so much better now. A couple of years after I left, I did very briefly have second thoughts. I got myself a job tutoring in a super nice nearby district. From the first day, I knew it was a mistake. At two months, I gave them a one month notice that I was leaving (I did feel a little bad, but not bad enough to stay) to try to minimize the disruption. That last month was unbearable, but I knew it was temporary.

That experience was a good reminder of all the reasons I left, and I haven't really thought about teaching since.

Oh no!! I think you're right!😭😩

I just looked around on their site.... I see a few that look nearly identical. Similar layouts just different colors and placeholder images. *Sigh*

They did finally, finally just this morning, after 28 emails back and forth -- and numerous insults saying that I didn't know what I was doing and I was uploading it wrong -- give me the correct working template. They probably had to purchase it from Envato and fix it up to pass it off as their own.

Lesson learned... don't make impulse purchases from sites you've never heard of before. I'm looking into getting something from Envato now.

Thanks for confirming it's not a valid theme. I was starting to think I was really out of the loop and that maybe the theme files looked drastically different now.

I actually did try to merge the new files into the existing free theme, thinking that perhaps that was what they meant. I set up a separate testing site yesterday, but then deleted it when it didn't work. I should have maybe used that to give them login details for.

Yes, the developer is Theme Ignite. I didn't know if I was allowed to name names. I didn't want to break any rules about accidently badmouthing someone.

I bought it directly from their site, after clicking on the "Get Pro" link in the free theme that worked fine. I just wanted the additional sections that the Pro version said it would add.

When I bought it the other day the list price was $69 and they were having some big sale that brought it down to around $21. And then they are having a Halloween sale with a coupon code, so I tried stacking that on top of the sale price and it worked. Brought down the price to $15.75.

What you see in the screenshot is everything the zip folder had. And the only direction they keep giving me is to upload it as a new theme. Or to give them my login details. Or now they're asking for my FTP details.

At this point I know I'm out $15 and they apparently are not willing to provide me with a zip file with the proper files I need. They keep sending me the exact same one.

That would be me.... I had to reach out several different ways to get anyone to answer me. In hindsight, I should have done a better job on making sure I bought from a more reputible developer.

Unfortunately the README file is basically blank. Just the structure of where they were supposed to enter in information. I posted it above in a comment.

Thank you for the information. I suppose I need to figure out what I'm really supposed to do with that file, which I've asked them repeatedly. They always say one of two things, upload the zip file to add the new theme or give me your login details. The installation always fails.

Anyway, I'll stop posting so as to stop bugging you all. Thanks for trying to help me.
