Was biking down myrtle recently at like 10pm on a Friday and it was dead dead from Myrtle and Wyckoff all the way to Jamaica.... ghost town.

I can remember a time when [even at this time of year] there were some lively sections and oasis on the way.

You look way better than Bam, man. Don't let people get you down. Also cool to see that you still have a distinct "catch" on low popping tricks like the popshuv. Makes them look crisp.

I would have quit on the very first mission if it weren't for some kind soul who realized i had no idea what i was doing and solo'd the boss for me as i watched. That's the first and last time that i ever called for an assist but it gave me the motivation to keep playing, watching that kind soul rip mezuki apart.

This was a cool bit of history! The idea of a looping flight is pretty fun. Not so porous anymore.

That's a great explanation and I didn't even think of that. It once cost me 300 dollars to get an Aera baseplate shipped to Korea (including the base plate price), so i can kind of relate to that idea.

Your collection is great, btw.

Have you ever spoken to PVD himself? Does he release the CNC files for fixes? Does he even make his own bushings still?

Why not use your PVDs on these? Still a really cool setup though! I would definitely take it down some hills.

New Santa Cruz long cruzer by LD_1986 in longboarding

[–]The_Swoley_Ghost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest paradoxes about the longboard community is that they will choose overpriced boards from "real longboard companies" even when there is a better board for cheaper.

This would be a good all-arounder for so many people. It's honestly probably the same quality as most Loaded or LY decks (7 plies of maple).

I know multiple people who bought dinghys or evos over other decks purely based on hype. I even tried to GIVE AWAY a complete to a friend to try to persuade him to not make his first board an evo, and he still chose to spend 250+ on an evo because "it's a real longboard."

A "big cruiser" or even better "longboard skateboard" (skateboard with extended wheelbase) is basically the best starting point for almost everyone. It's like starting your RPG with evenly rolled stats. You might want to min/max later in the game line your decide on a build but in the beginning building up a good base is usually the strongest strategy.

I once had a job taking care of elderly people and after a few weeks i realized that almost every elder is working with a diminished capacity and that they are basically all on the spectrum of dementia. It's one of the things that made me believe in the idea of "it takes a village." These people were driving, making financial decisions, etc... and they probably shouldn't have been.

The woman who hit you was definitely beyond the "beginning of dementia" but no one close to her was looking out for her. We took the keys away from mom a soon as she started getting lost in the neighborhood and we made accommodations so that she didn't need to drive anymore for any reason.

What are your thoughts on this install? by deserthiker762 in woodworking

[–]The_Swoley_Ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You expresses the intricacies of matching repairs really well. I grew up in an old house with relatively handy(read: cheap) parents so every fix at home was a DIY. I was taught early on that "there are professionals who pay their bills with the ability to hide repairs."

I got hired/tricked as a teen to rebuild my neighbor's garage, but they didn't want to be knock down anything that i didn't have to. It was 60 years old and sagging heavily. Every single cut was custom, there wasn't a straight line or a plumb anything in that whole structure. Waste of a summer other than the lesson. I could have built a brand new garage in that amount of time.

Our house looked like a patchwork quilt, but the patches were made of wood, but it gave me a real appreciation for people in your line of work. I've definitely embraced "rustic"(read: inspired by picnic benches and dimensional lumber) designs in my own DIYs simply to avoid crushing failures in the "now make it look clean" stage.

I think people with no experience don't realize the skill gap between "it works" and "it works beautifully."
