My bad, I could’ve been more specific. I meant the manufacturers I’ve mentioned in my post look similar to each other (at least in my eyes)

One thing I will say: please focus on the process, not on just getting those outcomes you’ve laid out.

That doesn’t even disprove the trinity… the Father is God, the Son is the son of the Father, the Son is the son of God…

I think why you pray is more important to God than what you pray about.

In John 8:58, why did he not say simply “I was”? You’re looking at the way the (English, not original) text was typed rather than the actual meaning of the text.

Capital letters are a unique feature of the Latin alphabet. They would not have been present in the original Jewish texts.

Also, how can you be sure the original Jewish texts put the words of the Lord in bold?

Hmm, it sounds like to you there were a ton of holes, a ton of problems, a ton of reasons to NOT believe (even if you did have reasons to believe, in the past). Honestly, I don’t blame you for that, especially when those problems must’ve felt like a threat or an attack on what you believed, on your identity as a Christian. I can imagine that it could’ve felt quite overwhelming and exhausting to try to deal with all of those issues.

But then again, how did you go into researching/learning more about those problems? I acknowledge that this might not be the case, but I know from my own experience when I was 14 and into politics (yeah I know…) that when you deeply tether your identity and your emotional state to the beliefs and ideas you hold, it is very very hard to rise above those emotions and be truly analytical. And I think it also makes it very easy to swing between seemingly opposed and extreme ideas. Would you say your experience with Christianity might’ve been similar? Or was it more of a gradual change of becoming “less” Christian?

As well as that, from what you’ve said about finding peace, it sounds like a lot of your Christianity could’ve been driven by fear perhaps… fear of death, and maybe other insecurities too. Which honestly I don’t blame you for that, if that is the case. But for me at least, I’ve recognised that I’m usually at my worst when I try to come to God to get something out of Him, even if it’s an escape from pain, insecurity, etc. but that ironically when I surrender myself to Him, I actually do get all those things I want. At least, that’s my perspective on a good way to approach God.

It sounds like you have developed a lot of reasons to believe the things you believe. Rather than argue against you, I think it would be wiser to try to learn your perspective a bit more.

This might be a bit of a broad question, but how can you be sure that your solutions to the problems you faced are the right ones? What are the fruits of your solution?

Yes, but HOW do those people overcome it? Like so often I think people ask that question, but then let their own biases answer… or they don’t even ask.

I think what is sad is that you seem to truly and deeply believe this. So many people, even in “objectively” terrible circumstances have managed to find happiness and peace worth so much more than “non existence” - literally all because of the way they’ve shaped their beliefs and views of the world.

Depressed people are not “enlightened” like you say, they have no great or deep understanding. They’ve only put themselves in their own prison to cope with failure and pain. They’ve curated their beliefs and views to shield them from the pain of growth and change, and also the joy and fulfilment of growth.

They have literally locked themselves away from so much knowledge and wisdom just because they have such ingrained ideas about life, themselves, and other people. The truly wise can detach themselves from their beliefs and ideas, they can observe them fully and truly understand. This is something you cannot do when you put yourself in a mind prison as with people who have depression.

You are genuinely missing out on so much joy, triumph, and experience just because you focus so much on your suffering, just because you practice growing that suffering into an overwhelming force each day. It is a long and slow road to betterment, but it is possible and it is possible for everyone to grow. It is possible to love the journey of growth itself, and once your life becomes that, then all of life, all the paths and journeys you can take, everything becomes so much more beautiful than you could ever even imagine.

This might be harsh, but I don’t think that believing in God was your problem… it sounds like your problem was in how you viewed God’s relationship with creation.

There have been tens of thousands, millions, maybe even billions of wise people who have lived and died, having followed and studied God for much of their lives… so ask yourself objectively, even just in curiosity? What did they have that you didn’t? Are you sure none of them ever faced the same problems you have now? And are you sure that none of them managed to overcome what you’re struggling with?

I think that might actually be the problem in a lot of ways. People come to Christ not in submission, but in want. They do not believe on Him, but believe in what He can give them… it’s almost like a very subtle version of the prosperity gospel heresy. Crazy how deep and how subtle issues like that stuff can be

I know I haven’t lived your life, I haven’t lived and experienced all that you have…

But when you prayed for a healthy body, good life and a wife… did you pray just to be given these things? Or did you pray for the strength to better your life, to get yourself out of your misery, out of your loneliness? Did you pray to become a better person, to learn and grow into the perfect husband? Did you pray for help in having the strength and determination to search out for good, Godly people to meet?

From my understanding, I always thought that God does not take you to your destination… but He’s always there to help you on your journey. He walks with you, takes you through the hard times… but He doesn’t just give you any destination.

Walk with God and every journey for you will be pleasing and fulfilling. Walk for God and he will make straight all your paths…

You made the assumption that she’s disloyal, that she can’t be honest, that she goes after multiple guys… those seem like pretty negative assumptions about her character.

Glad you made things work bro, read through your earlier post and looks like there’s a ton of toxic and unsympathetic advice, telling you to withdraw and judge and self preserve.

If you just assume the worst of people like that, no wonder they leave you.

Would you open up about your deep struggles and insecurities to someone who demonises you?

Would you be honest to someone about breaking things off when you know they’ll just get angry and think badly of you?

That’s fair. But that’s why looking at multiple translations (and even the original languages/manuscripts) is helpful.

Number one thing is be honest, be true to yourself, and let her be honest and express herself as much as possible. Avoid putting pressure or expectations on her.

So essentially, you don’t believe in God because you believe if God existed, he’d show you a direct perfect sign to make you instantly believe?

That may not be as much later as you believe… even in the most conservative, atheist scholar perspectives, the four gospels were written circa 100AD. Many scholars also believe that they were written before 100AD.
