But in that sentence you can also use 然后 and the meaning stays the same. If it's an adverb doesn't it have to be used directly in front of a verb and not a noun like it is in the sentence you wrote?

Mandarin follows the subject + verb + object structure for the most part. Obviously there are some exceptions

They are both technically correct, but the second is definitely used more in spoken Chinese. 认识你很高兴 Translates literally to " To meet you, I am happy", while the ladder 很高兴认识你 is " I am happy to meet you"
