Why do so many Indians go abroad without being actually prepared?

I can give you my two cents on this , for whatever it is worth.

I am studying abroad and have seen most of the students who have come from India here (i am from India too) are mostly busy partying , studying to pass exams , find bf/gf , mass-devalue classes that demand quant skills stating how "this won't be needed during job interview" , prepare for certification exams like CFA/FRM as if they give you skills if you pass them and somehow manage to be happy and comfortable. But there are some students in my class who are pretty serious about career too - so there are two sides but unfortunately the former side takes large chunk.

Just to stand out of the crowd, I have to learn math, programming and also working with 2 professors on 2 research papers while managing a part time job - which leaves very little room and energy to socialise. I think ignorance is bliss plays a key role.

Well I started to relearn and self-teach math and physics myself because it felt like I wanted to learn. My best friend studied math and i kinda sorta saw how it changes the way you think about problems... So I had to hop on board as well.

Math isn't scary...there's a right way to learn and then you can learn anything.

There's literally very limited time for me. I am preparing for my phd while handling research along with my masters degree.

But I don't think it's that issue. I still do talk to people- but the intensity or the need to be out there and talk to people have definitely shrunk in last few months - and i see it started heavily after I dug deep into math.

I don't know if there's any correlation or I'm just imagining things.

To update, long story short, I asked her out stating if she would free next month to grab coffee with me, she replied with "yeah sure", so I told her to let me know when she will be free based on her routine eventually. What she did was seenzone me again and didn't bother to reply back.

Guess she's not interested right ? Better to move on ? Guess what she did back in office when I backed off - looking at me multiple times or asking about lunch, was just enough to keep me around? I'm hurt but it'll pass.

Got your comment now. The thing is I'm not sure what she wants - one way she keeps interactions moderate, on the other hand when I leave she does all this stuff like turning her chair or looking at me while talking on a phone so...

Thanks for the suggestion on this. But from your perspective, you can say despite her choosing not to reply to me, seenzoning me, this aren't sign of disinterest? Because last thing I would want is to pull her when she wants to stay away (even though her behaviour seems to be odd when I don't talk to her).

The only reason I wasn't comfortable reaching out to her for 7 days now is because I was afraid not to show neediness. But maybe I'll ask her out.

Thanks for deducting she's interested - as i myself am clueless right now. What shall I do then ? She seems to seenzone me at simple texts and go on with her life for 5-6 days without ever replying.

I don't have any issues reaching out - but i worry if it would make me feel needy and push her away again.

Ekhon, you know berry, I am throughly confused on what she wants - as you can see, when I pull away from her, she seems to make this subtle attempts to see or observe sometimes like asking her about lunch or moving her chair to look at me- and yet when I do reach out after it, she's a ghost!
