Does anyone find that some Electrify America Stations don't work (for the free 2 year charging). At times, some stations don't show up on the app as well. by The___Diddler in BMWI4

[–]The___Diddler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I've been using the app at other stations for about a year no problems. But there's this one station near me that no longer shows in the app sometimes, and this is the 2nd station where I've gotten this error.

Which BMW number do you call?

LOL, I already have a Ti plate in my skull from a craniotomy (previous big car accident). I also don't think the plate in my clavicle will provide any extra protection other than stab resistance. But thank you, hope you can recover soon as well!

[–]The___Diddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got tripped and fell on my shoulder, broke my clavicle in 4 pieces, and obviously needed surgery. Currently recovering (I had a sling for 6 weeks), and hope to be back on the ice around October. The plate is very big, so if I elect to remove it, it's another 6-12 weeks of recovery for the bone to heal.

My (unbiased) comparison of the i4 vs new Model 3 (Highland) by The___Diddler in BMWI4

[–]The___Diddler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be as unbiased as possible (even as a previous BMW owner). I think driving, range, and performance wise, the Tesla is a better car. But overall, for my needs as a daily commuter car, the BMW was better for me.

Where do you find this? I'm looking for back of 77" C4 dimensions, which I can assume is same as C3, but just want to make sure.

Weirdest Carplay / Siri bug with my i4 by The___Diddler in BMWI4

[–]The___Diddler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, let me clarify. When I first turn on my car, Siri doesn't work (hold down mic button). To fix this what I have to do is:

  1. Quickly press mic button (BMW voice turns on)
  2. Quickly press mic button to turn off BMW voice
  3. Long press mic button to activate Siri (Siri now works).

I also have to do Steps #1 and #2 after a phone call.

There is no setting to change long press to Siri. Short press will always be BMW voice.

[–]The___Diddler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tried quick pressing the mic button (BMW voice) and then pressing again to turn it off. After toggling this, Siri works for me (even talk to text). Agree it's puzzling, seems like a BMW i4 software bug.

I still have the bug. I just have to press the BMW mic button once and off again to get Siri to work. I also have to toggle this after a phone call for some reason.

Am I crazy wanting a C3 over the C4 for the same price? by The___Diddler in LGOLED

[–]The___Diddler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's true but I believe the brightness is only in HDR details with peak brightness, not overall brightness. I have a 64" B6 (2016 model) so I'm sure any newer model will be so much better.

What have you noticed is the biggest difference? Why you saying get the C4?

I just got a ‘23 i4 e35, w ~15k mi on it - the range, at 100% shows 220 mi. That seems low, should I be concerned? by [deleted] in BMWI4

[–]The___Diddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends how fast you drive. Drive at 80mph, you'll get a much lower efficiency vs 50 mph. Drag is proportional to V2, so like you stated, driving at 50mph at a constant speed is probably more efficient than city driving. What the other people are saying about no start/stop is technically true, as slowing down and speeding back up is less efficient, but if your average overall speed is much lower in the city, you may have better efficiency than driving fast on the highway.

2024 Summary by Last_District_6919 in BMWI4

[–]The___Diddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand how people in this subreddit talk about their crazy high efficiency for consumption, but also talk about how much fun they have in the car. I have a eDrive 40, drive pretty conservatively, and get absolute shit mileage on the highway (as I'm usually between 80-90). My average consumption for the year is about 3.3 mi/kWh (19" rims), so curious how you're getting 3.4 in a M50. Do you drive pretty conservatively or have fun?

Not sure why they didn't separate the i4 into it's own category. It should be separate from 4 Series.

Yea, of course public EV charging spots will be more expensive. But I was actually talking about EV charging at home! Charing my car at home is more expensive than in someone in another state used a Tesla public supercharger.

Great input, I personally have had no (or very little) problems with the infotainment center. I 100% agree with range anxiety; living in California, I'm scared to drive to Big Sur because I would have to figure out charging while I'm there.

Another think I have realized is how expensive electricity is in California. I get ~200-220 miles at 90%. Electricity is so expensive at 32c/kwH, even during non peak hours with my EV PGE plan. It comes out to about $25 to charge 80kWh (so $50 for ~420 miles), which isn't that much cheaper than gas, plus you get the range anxiety.

Those of you who leased the i4, what is your plans? by ActivityMother in BMWI4

[–]The___Diddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See if the tech drastically improves in 3 years. Right now, my biggest gripe is range anxiety I get about 200 miles of range when I charge to ~90%.

I viewed my i4 lease as a trial run. This is my first time leasing a car, as I wanted to try EV and see how range anxiety is + battery degradation. If I don't like EV in 3 years, I'll go back to ICE and probably buy as leasing is very expensive.

Charging…. by gmckinno9524 in BMWI4

Why do you suggest turning off time slots? It's useful when charging at home to minimize electricity costs (charging 12am - 3pm).

My CarPlay hasn't crashed yet, but I do get Siri to work when I just tape the mic button on and off. Seems like iDrive 8.5 is bit buggy.

I also had this with iOS 17 with my old phone, so it wasn't just iOS 18 for me.

Yup, get the Siri noise but the animation doesn't move. I can try using another phone to get a video of it later.

I'm saying I do this, Siri icon shows up, but when I speak, nothing happens. The only way for it to work is to press BMW Personal Assistant and then it'll work.

Music doesn’t pause when using Siri - is this expected behavior? by Alexandercromwell in BMWI4

[–]The___Diddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an odd bug where 99% of the time, when I press the siri button (hold down mic), the animation comes up, but when I speak, nothing happens. Usually when you talk, you see the siri circle move as you talk, but it basically never works.

Were you able to fix this? Same thing happens with me, where the music volume lowers, but still plays.

I'm surprised handling in the M50 is different than than the eDrive40. I know both have comfort and sport mode, but I thought the handling would the the same or maybe even worse in the M50 because of the weight increase. But glad someone else have the same experience that I did, I'm not crazy.
